  • Nice use of the godawful PC game footage!

  • Not bad! Not bad at all :)

  • rip antony ainly

  • it is so nice to see anthony ainly again, clever use of continuity

  • One thing I don't understand, why does Darleks execute The Master...how did they enter the picture?

  • This was an awesome modification to the original opening. Especially nice touch with getting rid of that GOD AWFUL DALEK VOICE THEY USED!

  • A stronger opening

  • Good change; well done.

  • how cool would it have been uf anthony ainley was the master in the movie?

  • @LTGeraldo Super Ebro Cool!

  • @OttselSpy24 i don't know why there is something about him that says he is the master, i know he wasn't a bad guy an all but he played the part greatly

  • @LTGeraldo yes, Much better than John "Please put me on Redelin" did...

  • @OttselSpy24 shame he died before the series got booted back up, how cool would it have been to see him again?

  • @LTGeraldo super Ultra Ebro cool.

  • If you buy Doctor Who - Survival on DVD all Anthony Ainley's links are on there so you won't have to buy the game!

  • @MarkR06 Well, that is true, but by only buying the Survival DVD you miss out on some of the best parts of the Gaem. Without the rest of the Gaem, it looks boring. The game features Tom Baker, Peter Davidson, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Nicholas Courtney. I'm not saying you should bie the game, no, no, no. Just watch one of the Fan Edits of it on Youtube.

  • Brilliant!

  • @TheCreedGamers - I think that there are a few copies of this game on Amazon, but they might be preowned. Hope that helps.

  • I like the Dalek voices better in this Than the real movies squeaky daleks

  • thankyou for replacing those chipmunk-dalek voices with proper nic briggs voices. what did they think of when they did that!

  • Holy Omega I love this video. OMGA!

  • @TheCreedGamers /watch?v=JacEV1x9kM4&feature=related

  • @TheCreedGamers I guess it depends on how big of a classic series fan you are. Honsestly, the game itself is not that good. The objectives of many of the mini-games are often confusing and some are too easy while others are too hard. The graphics are just OK even for 1996 standards. However, there is a lot of classic series footage within the game as well as exclusive footage of Antony Ainley playing the master like he should have played him on TV...to me that would be worth it.

  • what a fantastic job it really gave me goose bumps.

  • @sebbrown1 While it wasn't so bad on it's own there are a few slight problems with it that would have made a long running series quite bad.

  • Comment removed

  • The footage of the Master - where'd that come from?

  • @eveningtsar It's all in the video's description.

  • Rather an improvement I think.

    (Including the Dalek!)

  • Despite everyone's criticism of the movie, I believe you did well with this cut-together and I like it! =)

  • You did well

  • this would be the best opening plus show ainley in the beginning taunting the daleks would be good too

  • yup that adds alot to the opening cool

  • Excellent! Really like it

  • I like this, except for the Dalek squawking EXTERMINATE!!!!!

As an American Who fan (that was not a fan before 2005) if Fox did a better job explaining the history of Who before debuting the TV movie. Stupid FOX.

  • @superstetle the "squacking Dalek" as you put it, is taken directly from the 2005 episode "Dalek" and replaced the terrible sounding "smurf" Daleks that were originally in the movie. Second, I too am an American fan who is tired of people blaming Fox, or America, for the failure of the movie. Read the book "Regeneration" by Philip Segal and you'll see that the story was written, produced, and directed by people who worked for the BBC.

  • @Albs1414 I didn't think it was so bad, and I loved how you put the "squacking Dalek" voice in there. It was great. Yeah, it was much better than the smurfs trying to get the job done. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the half human thing. That, and the comparing him to Christ coming out of the grave thing.

  • @superstetle Furthermore, the problems with the movie are not the action or heavy special effects as those are both elements we can see in the current run of Doctor Who. The problem, quite simply, is that the script was bad. Again, read the book and you'll see why and that has NOTHING to do with America or Fox. You want to blame someone, blame Philip Segal. It was his lack of a concrete vision for what the movie was supposed to be coupled with many unsuable scripts left us with what we got.

  • @Albs1414 Definitely. I also think that the Master was the wrong villain to use for a relaunch - it was the monsters that made Doctor Who last beyond 1963 in the first place. Daleks, Cybermen, Autons or Ice Warriors would have probably drawn more attention than a rogue Time Lord.

  • @feanenatreides That's a good call by you. I agree totally. One of the Many bad decisions by the producer Philip Segal.

  • Awesome much better then the other one

  • @charmedcasanova

Where did the Anthony Ainley scenes come from ? The 1996 movie had some flaws, but it was good to see The Doctor back in circulation.

The Doctor Who series on the SyFy Channel has great special effects & props, but it's not the same as the eps. of the original. Flash over substance, I fear.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 sorry dude that's one I don't know I was wondering that my self maybe if was a deleted scene

  • @charmedcasanova - It was footage of Anthony Ainley from a video game, I was told.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 Thanks man good to know

  • @charmedcasanova - My pleasure ! the new series on SyFy..... Great Special FX,moderate substance at best.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 It's all explained in the info. The Ainley scenes are from the 1996 CD-Rom game "Destiny of the Doctors" and was his last acting appearence before his death in 2004.

  • @Albs1414 -

Ah. I should've looked before asking. Sheesh. Anthony Ainley is dead ? He didn't seem that old.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 He was 72...not super old. I don't remember what got him but I don't think it was cancer or anything that was expected.

  • @Albs1414 - I should look up Anthony Ainley in Wikipedia. He could've been a twin of the Original actor Roger Delgado. That being the prime reason why he got the part.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 He was such a nice guy. I met him at a convention in Chicago in 93'. I kept on hearing him talk about how he thought he was not as good as Rodger Delgado so told him that he was "my Master", having grown up in the 80s, and that I thought his performance was great. He seemed genuinely appreciative and asked me if I had anything for him to sign...which I didn't. He then pulled out a publicity photo from his bag, signed it, and gave it to me. I'll never forget that.

  • @Albs1414

Amazing ! sounded like quite a guy. Eric Roberts as the Master ? Meh..... They only put him in because he was supposedly a fan. The guy who played him in the new series on SyFy could've been a druggist or a postman. Both Delgado & Ainley captured the character of the Master way better than anyone else.

ANYWAY - That was FANTASTIC OF Anthony Ainley to do that. The people who play villains are very often extremely likeable !!

  • @knoxvilleguy2 - I though Eric Roberts did a good job at making the master seem more intimidatingly brutal and psychotic as opposed to just machiavellian;which is something that I always felt was missing in the early series.I think alot of people were put off however, because Delgado and Ainley developed between them a mysterious, hypnotic, almost Shakespearian, villainous, visard and Roberts was more Mr Smith gone wrong. But he got it right in the end I felt, once he "Drezzed; for the occasion."

  • @opaek1 - I missed the Master's gloating & his deviousness, like Ainley played up, chewing scenery in the process.

Eric Roberts as the Master wasn't TERRIBLE, but a British actor, British playing a American character w / gets taken over by the Master, w / have been better.

& how did the " Eye of Harmony " get into the TARDIS ? Gallifrey must have had a heck of a black - out.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 it was a link to the eye of harmony not the actual eye.

  • @Jez32uk - Ah. It seemed like the entire Eye was in there, either that or I wasn't paying attention.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 to be honest i think the production team thought the entire eye was in the TARDIS, retro active fan w*nk has made it a link...

  • @Jez32uk Must've been the case. 1 little error can snowball into something much bigger & out - of - canon.

  • @opaek1 I find it hard to believe that a great actor like Eric Roberts "got it wrong", as it said throughout these comments, it was simply a bad script.

  • @takingdaggers Well; when an actor picks up a script, it is the actors job to bring his/her character to life in which ever way he/she may see fit. I think Eric Roberts is great in alot of the movies too but on this occasion he, just didn't quite interperate the script in a way that suited the character. You could argue that its a new regeneration but actucally its not. Its just the same Master from the series, only he has gained control of a human body.Either way your "bad scipt" stance is poor.

  • @opaek1 partialy correct, it's the directors job to make the actors bring their character too life, a job that far too many directors do not do.

  • @takingdaggers Lol, fare enough the director helps but he/she can't "make" an actor bring a character to life; either they do or they don't. Paul Mcgann and the rest of the cast did a great job; as did Eric Roberts, as I previously stated: "I though Eric Roberts did a good job at making the master seem more intimidatingly brutal and psychotic as opposed to just machiavellian." All I'm saying, with this in mind, is he unfortunately missed out the "machiavellian" until he got into costume...

  • @takingdaggers Admittedly I added that, his performance was like "Mr Smith gone wrong."Bit harsh but not far off at times. In addition to your suggestion that the director (as well as the script) was detrimental to Robert's performance. When Paul Mcgann took on the role of the Doctor, he spoke at length with Sylvester Mccoy about how he interpretted the role back in the 80's. In addition, former Master Ainley studied Delgado's work closely to prep for his role.RobertS shud have done his homework.

  • @Albs1414 Truly cool.

  • I love this - you did such a great job!

  • WOW!...That was pretty excellent...You cut that together wonderfully...'liked the 'Exterminate', replacing the crap voices of the movie......Very well done!...5*.

  • @maadmaestro Thanks. I appreciate it.

  • not bad as a concept, but needs slicker editing.

  • @neomp5 lol....There's always one.

  • @Albs1414

i just mean it would look great with more complex editing. for example, zooming out of the tv movie's eye shot to reveal ainley's face

  • @neomp5 Thanks for actually providing me with specific criticism rather than your rather nebulous reason from the 1st post. Pity you couldn't have done that in the first place.

Regardless, considering I'm not a professional editor, that I'm an average computer person at best, that I was splicing together 2 "relatively" incompatible pieces of video, that I was learning how to use a basic video editing program, I think I did a pretty good job. So do most of the people that have commented.

  • Great stuff but would have been even better if you added an audio clip of Ainley's Master laughing over that last shot of him.

  • Good call. I should have thought of that. Easy to fix...I'll have to do that one of these days.

  • This was quite good! A big improvement over the actual movie opening.

A shame about that movie... great doctor, but the film was not very well done. I wonder what else can be improved with a few edits?

  • Thanks for the kind words. I agree with you 100%. I'm not so sure editing can fix that disaster of a plot. It's unfortunate. Waste of a good Doctor.

  • yeah, I thought the movie was the worst Doctor Who story ever made--even worse than Timelash! I thought it was really a bunch of Hollywood cliches taken under the Doctor Who title.

  • Totally. It was Doctor Who by committee - completely neutered. A British writer attempting to insert American cliches into a British show, produced by Americans and filmed in Canada. A result was a movie that tried to please everyone by attempting to be a satisfying continuation of the classic series while simultaneously introducing the show to new fans from a different country. The result of a movie that tries to please everyone is invariably a movie that pleases no one.

  • "Hmm...Americans like car chases, don't they? We'll need at least one of those! Also, Americans won't like the show if there are too many people in it who aren't from America, so we'll set it in San Francisco and make the Master an American. The Doctor can be British to please the fanbase, and let's bring back McCoy for the regeneration, too! Also, that Terminator movie from five years ago was pretty popular, we'll have the Master wearing sunglasses and a police uniform like the T-1000!"

  • As an American, I always insist that it's not our fault - it's the fault of boneheaded executives who assume that we're all stupid.

  • Actually, I feel like the tone of the movie was very similar to that of the new series. Car chases, kissing companions, pop-culture references, etc. I could have handled all those "Hollywood cliches" if the script would have been good. The bottom line is, it's a poorly written story. It was written by an Englishman and the story was accepted by the producer, an Englishman. They are the ones that should bare the brunt of the blame.

  • My problem with it was it didn't seem like it knew what it wanted to BE. As a result, the script is unfocused. The new series has all the things you listed, but it knows the tone it's going for, the stories it's trying to tell, and the characters it's trying to create. Whereas with the movie, I don't think even the writers were sure what they were trying to do (please the fanbase, maintain continuity, yet grab a new audience and establish something different), which is why the script sucks.

  • As opposed to using certain conventions to serve the story, like the new series does, the movie just throws in a few half-baked cliches in the hopes that it will spice up a weak script that's trying to do too many things as once. So in other words, I'm agreeing with you - the problem is the script.

  • The new series was able to accomplish all the things the movie was TRYING to do because the writing was better, and they had a clear, single creative vision for the show. Say what you will about RTD, but he has a much better idea of how to build an audience than the producers of this film did.

It's not the "Hollywood" elements themselves I object to - it's the fact that I get the feeling that they were thrown in in a slapdash, haphazard fashion to try to tick off a few demographic boxes.

  • I agree with you 100%. You should read the book "Regenerations" by Phillip Seagal. It explains, in detail, the Genesis of the script that was used. You are right that it seemed unfocused because it went through so many re-writes, plus the many scripts that were submitted but deemed unacceptable. It was a very haphazard process...which again is the fault of the producer and the writer. IMO

  • Sounds interesting. I'll give that one a look.

  • If they ever re-release this movie they should replace the Daleks voice with the regular one.

  • I know. You have to wonder what the heck Philip Seagal was thinking in the first place.

I would settle for just a DVD release of the movie here in the U.S. I'm sick of the VHS quality copy that I have. Still, it's not like I'm missing much.

  • @Albs1414 I have a good copy on my computer if you want it from me. PM me and maybe we can set something up that I can get you my copy.

  • @psxwarrior I appreciate the offer but, according to Galifrey Base, the TV movie will finally be released on region 1 DVD. Despite my luke warm feeling towards to movie, I'll be picking it up right away.

  • @Albs1414 That's cool. Be picking it up myself, than.

  • This would have made that TV Movie 100% better!

  • Well, 100% of nothing is still nothing.

  • Loved it 10/5 !!!

  • That was a good idea, really good in fact, I'm impressed

  • they should add this as an extra feature on the dvd

  • you british people are sooooooooooooooooo lucky! You actually GET a DVD realese of it! {Just a joke, not reaqlly mad.}

  • cool! i liked the bit at 0:38, it shows that the masters spirit is still out there.

  • Nicely done, but too bad you kind of muddied the eye motif that ran through the entire movie, beginning with the title sequence.

  • Very well edited! It looks natural - excellent job! :-)

  • Really well done, brilliant work.

  • well done.

ive seen only one version on the Who pix site.

that also used the Destiny of the Doctors as a prelude for the tv movie in a slightly similer way as you have done here.

but i liked the way u did your version to.

  • i love how you fixed the dalek voices! replacing those poor messed-up chipmunk voices with nick briggs' dalek voice from the dr who new series, which is more like the Roy Skelton dalek voices in the classic series!

  • wow that was awesome 5 stars

  • McGann was good, but I prefer McCoy. I think the '96 film should have starred McCoy all the way though, and it should have been set in turn of the century... no, turn of the millenium London. More fitting for a brit tv institution. And have the Doctor need to track the Master down like Sherlock Holmes, through the streets of London.

  • Maybe, but the whole reason this was made was to be a reboot of the series for an American audience, so I don't think they had a choice with the US as a setting

  • @Bond8789 that would have been so much better.

  • Great stuff, oh and good game also DotD!

  • thanks. I never beat the game..too frusterating for me. I thought Ainley was great though.

  • BRILLIANTLY DONE!!

  • Thanks. I appreciate that.

  • nice idea. i rather like that

  • I appreciate that. I always liked the idea of including Ainly because I think his version of the Master got the short end of the stick. I think he could have been really good if allowed to play the character straight.

  • i like ainelys portrayal regardless. he was a good dark villain, but with a lighter touch, because he clearly enjoyed what he did, which makes him a very dangerous man

  • I agree, though I think he could have even been better if allowed to play it more that way he wanted to. I remember him talking at a convention about how he thinks that Rodger Delgado was so much better than him. He actually sounded pretty down about the whole thing.

  • well for me he will always be the definative master. i mean i love delagado n jeffory beavers john simm n all. but hes the 1 i watched as a child

its only in recent yrs iv watched the likes of delagado

  • This is actually really impressive. Were I to see this alongside the real opening without knowing which was the actual, I would've picked yours. After all, the daleks in the real one sound like some squeky fanboy did the voice himself lol.

  • Thanks, I appreciate that. I don't know how you feel, but I wish I could re-edit the entire movie. It was very disappointing and has not improved with age. Sucks, because I think McGann could have been a great doctor especially after listening to his Big Finish stuff.

  • Yeah, but we did get to see the 8th in plenty of books and comics. Its a shame the movie never took off, then we would have had a tv show with mcgann. And on editing the movie, they might be releasing a remastered dvd version of the movie next year. You should seriously send this to bbc for consideration

  • well there is the down side of not gettin mcgann in a series. but i think the wait is what was needed to get a properly serious revival underway. or it may hav simly crashed n burned once again

  • Good idea replacing the dalek voice, coz the original movie one was just cheesy!

  • Yeah it was. Sounded more like a smurf than a Dalek.

  • tell me abou it!

  • Very very good. Well done!

  • Thanks, I appreciate it. Your stuff is good as well. I especially like the Terror of the Zygons trailer. Good stuff!

  • Cute.
