Christian, you are a champion. The trick to donating is not to worry about the needle and to just relax and have fun. The nurses are so nice and everyone is in a great mood when you visit, because you are doing such a great service. When I'm having the needle administered I concentrate on my right big toe and try to move it in a clock wise direction without moving my foot ... works every time ;)
Im giving blood for the first time on thursday next week. Im extremly scared. I hate needles always have :( but I my uncle passed away of leukemia and one of my classmates was killed in a car accident so I thought "why be selfish, you can save 3 lives" so I've decided to do it. Im hoping it doesnt hurt :S
@Jordmate it went well :) i was so nervous prior to giving blood but it wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be, the most painful part was getting my finger pricked to check the iron levels and what not. When I was giving blood i felt a slight tugging like something was tugging on the needle but the nurses said it was just the blood pouring out otherwise wasnt as bad as I thought. Cant wait til my donor card arrives to find out what my blood type is :P

I've watched this a few times, but I still don't like seeing the blood coming out of your arm. If they can take the blood without touching me, they can have it. Think I'll just give them some money.
@Jordmate Well he was also called Vlad Dracul thats where Dracula came from Dracul meaning The Devil...Romanians saw him more like a Devil then a Vampire (blood sucker/blood thirsty)....Well not all Romanians but the ones that were criminals because thats who he impaled.. He wasn't blood thirsty he just wanted a country without criminals and clean country... I respect him for that :) I am a Romanian myself :)
@silviubacky33 Thanks Silvlu, Great to have you drop by with me at the Blood Bank - I suppose you have Vampires where you like wanting to do the same?
@Jordmate I just have been in a trip in Transylvania this month, but I assure you I found no vampire there!!! As a matter of fact,Vlad Tepes (Vlad The Impaler) is my favorite historical personality,we could discuss any time about the real character. But I advise you to visit one day this part of Romania, you'll never be sorry!
giving blood should take 5-10 minutes unless you are me...lol. they won't let me do it anymore. takes an hour and they have no clue why. they had doctors come in and nurses and everyone checking veins and lines and still they could not figure it out. so glad others do it since i can't.
@MicheleMidnight Poor Michele, I'm sure you have other great uses, like singing ... and your voice certainly makes people feel good. I have a friend who has given heaps of times and after years of donating he has begun to experience difficulty in providing a vein - that tends to happen when you get older.
You're very brave Richard. I hate needles. Every time I have to give blood, the person hurts me, so now I afraid of it. How much did they take? It looked like a lot.
@meerkatlibrarian Olivia, they take about 470ml ... which is replaced very quickly and when the body replaces it the new blood is better - Brand new! The needles is no problem ... when they are sticking it in you just concentrate on wriggling your left right big toe ;)
@oldvision Ha ha, certainly Gary, vegemite keeps the blood flowing. Most of the video shooting was done by the nurses at the blood bank - I just asked them to hold the camera and they rose to the challenge beautifully.
If your a cheap date, take your new gf/bf to the red cross, give blood have some good food, wha-la :) See if she or he is a loving giving type, cover the meal all in one setting hehe.
@TheDarksEmpyrean Sure is a good feeling helping all those people who need it so badly. I met a girl on Wednesday this week whose father Kevin Paice died of Leukemia last year after receiving years of donated blood. Maybe we keep him alive a bit longer ... so it was well worth it.
