I keep seeing these silly comments about singers that do something "better than anyone else alive". That doesn't carry much meaning today. In years past, there were many more reliably brilliant and charismatic tenors than today. Just think about the short span of time in which Wunderlich, Gedda, Gigli, DiStefano, Kraus, Caruso, and even Pavarotti and Domingo had their careers. People used to be more demanding of their entertainers.
@jaketaz I agree with you.Its through forums like this that the general public are able to make comments about subjects they know nothing about.Opera is the production of pure sound.Every singer is gifted but all singers vary greatly in delivery and interpretation.You can't compare.
@JCLAWS he actully is. heldentenor is not defined by the color of the voice but by how it cuts across the orchestra. lyrics cannot sing over a large wagnerian orchestra but heppner can.
@kevin86h thats not true. diego torre has a tremendous voice but he is a lyric tenor, nothing more, his voice cuts over everything i heard. it is range, size, color, tambre, and strength
Is strange to hear the first part of Nessun Dorma with the piano of Maestro Heppner, because sound not good,and is not in the right pitch, I think is one not good day to him, but I like much the maestro Ben Heppner, he is a great Tenor!!!!!
I agree. He strays a little sharp towards the beginning, but his brilliance shines through in the middle and end of the aria. He is awesome. And I'm so proud that he's Canadian!!
..but he looks so rediculous.. lol no matter of his notes.. he lost a lot of wheight later.. way better

To me Nessun Dorma is defenitely not for such a light liryc tenor.

@kevin86h
no he really isn;t. He is actually a lyric tenor and he sings heldentenor repitiore. He soo doesn't have the voice to sing half the stuff he does

Ben Heppner sings Nessun Dorma better than anyone in the world. I don't care what anyone says. He is the very best.
Gives me the biggest chills every single time.
