poor puppy. yea, separation anxiety can lead 2 disastrous results. my sister has a dog named Foxy, & she wud tear the place up if she was left alone 2 long. same thing with my brother's dog, Butch
@scottswan,thanks for the feedback. Eeek i hope it doesnt take a year for her to get over this anxiety? we have been practicing leaving her for short periods but doesnt seem to make a difference. So i just need to tough it out then i guess. I read that dachshunds are very stubborn so i assume it will take longer than most other dogs. Just hope i dont go crazy by then :-/
I totally understand what this person is going though. I have a 10 week old dachshund pup and she is exactly the same wether i leave her in a crate (which i tried for 2 nights and knew it was not right for her) or wether i leave her in the kitchen area, overnight or just for an hour while i take a shower etc. All my friends said she will get used to it and it will stop and the vet said 5 days and she will of gotten used to it and be fine. 2 wks later and no sign of it stopping!
@luchiadance When he turned 1 year old he started to get more independent. He's fine on his own all day and has the run of the house. He even invented a game of playing ball by himself using the stairs! He still likes people to go outside with him and he whines a little if the bathroom door is shut and someone is in there. One thing is be tough with him when he does something bad. He's a tough little guy and will easily test us and try and get away with stuff but a little smack on the butt fixes
@scottswan You smack your dog on the bottom? Physical force is always bad juju when it comes to young dogs. My boyfriend and I have a 6 month old lab/foxhound mix and no matter how much she frustrates us we NEVER use physical force on her. Before her I had a cocker spaniel that was abused which is why I'll never lay a hand on my dog.
@RapturedSomber I get that. We only reinforce punishment when it's obvious that he knew he did something wrong but he thinks now he can get away with it. You know, test us. "Sorry pal, you are not the alpha /all/ the time!" Just most of the time. :)
Aw your dog is very very cute, all he needs is some training, put on some music and while you are home put him in the crate with a treat and a toy that makes him look for a treat, just take about 1 hour per day, put him in (30 mins), then let him out (30 mins)...it's all good, dogs need the crate as a "den" so NO they don't need to be with other dogs but i'm sure they would love it, they are pack animals and YOU ARE LEADER OF THE PACK.
This is heartbreaking... Hope the lil one has gotten use to the house - we had to do the same with our doxie at first until he got use to the home and us
that's a shame you left that dog by itself that long i would have never done that specially if its a puppy its scared you don't treat animals like that.
Other dogs shown on youtube, love their crate. This behavior has to do with how they have been trained. Any of you who need help with that, just check out the trainers here on youtube who explain this.
Dogs are pack animals and should never be left alone. It's a direct threat to their survival instinct to be left behind, when they wish to remain with the pack, in safety, where they constantly assess and reassess their position. I wish people were not allowed to own animals ... Dogs need constant company. Dogs need other dogs.
Poor dog! I don't find anything about this funny. It breaks my heart. I don't believe that any animal should be left alone for long periods but particularly not a dog. I chose not to adopt a dog until I could spend at least three months at home with her so she would be well trained when I had to work outside the home again. And my puppy has the company of three cats so she wouldn't be lonely.
@jstalker1775 Our jaws dropped when we first saw this. We honestly had no idea he was getting that upset in the crate. Of course he's never been in a crate since, he is free to roam the house and chase the cats now. :)
Stop complaining , they are just teaching the dog to stay in it's cage. He can be left around at this age or he will destroy everything. At this time this dog needs discipline
y didnt introduce him well into his crate

He's wagging his tail a lot--this is a dog's version of smiling. I'm not sure if he's actually upset or just getting a lot of puppy energy out.

@voyagersystem that's false. it's humane to leave a dog alone while at work or school.

@vteccream, for you perhaps, but not for the dog.

My dog had that when I first adopted her as a puppy. Now I regret it that I left her in a cage since now I realize it was separation anxiety
