I like your comment on "paralysis and freezing and thinking what are you going to do"
Since purchasing Logic and having access to Artutria's software synth i've had serious hardship when writing music. I feel overloaded with ideas and what i could use and have spent hours on once particular sound.
In the past i just used a hardware drum machine, my guitar and a bass on a 24 track digital recorder and i feel i got more ideas for tracks down back then than i do now.
couldnt agree more torley. i produce several different genres of music and fuse different 1s together as well but yet i dress "hip hop" or "gangsta" music is music! if u make and love it and put all ur creativity into then nobody can take that away from u... i love music n i love hearing u play/talk about music... powr to the muscians!
i always get picked on musically because i listen to music that i like, not music that ppl think i like! i say i like coldplay and ppl pull thier faces everytime?! i dont get it! plz plz plz play Knight Rider 2000!!! plz.
Awesome rant! You have a new fan in me:) The part of art that is ineffable is what we'll always be talkin' about.Very intelligent and fun too! Would love to chat sometime-Edward
Doesn't change the fact that you like clownstep. :P j/k
The new Subfocus album is great; I love how he sampled Vangelis for Let the Story Begin. You should check out the new Alix Perez album for a totally different side of drum and bass.
Outside of forums I mostly see this kind of thought with djs. There are a lot of very narrow minded djs who really only play one subgenre. Personally I play all over the shop. If you're going by just forums, they're probably taking the piss, especially DOA.
racism implies a discrimination based on race - whether that discrimination is malevolent or otherwise.
your use of it Torley to make your point about attitudes toward musical genre snobbery is misplaced and doesn't make sense in the context presented here.
other than that - you make some valid points.
But all that having been said, it doesn't change the fact that Disco Sucks :)
One particular section of music I feel takes a bashing is Video Game Music (VGM). Alot of people seem to think that because it's in a Video Game, it's wierd to like to listen to. Yet, when you think about it Video games brought us some of the best orchestral, classic and inspiring tunes.
I totally agree with your opinions Torley. There is something about you that has me happy to listen to your topics of discussion. Though what are your prime thoughts on Video Game Music as an individual Genre?
@findlay27 I agree! I can play an arpreggio in a bell voice or a dreamlike voice and people will be like OMFG THAT IS SICK and then I play it with an 8 bit sound and everyone is just like OMG WTF IS THAT VIDEO GAME BULLSHIT
@kw1ksh0t Personally, I can't blame if people don't like 8-bit music, either it didn't take to their tastes, or they weren't brought up around the time it was popular, but it's when video game music as a whole gets bashed, I've said to countless people I play video game music on piano, the responses were rage worthy, but when I play the music I told them about, they respond COMPLETELY differently, thinking it's a beautiful composition, they ask what it is I played...Video Game Music, nuff said.
@findlay27 Yeah it's like for my performance when I studied music at high school I played Aerith's Theme from FF7 and everyone looked at me like I killed someone
It is mental walls, that is true and something that should be obvious to any objective, reasonable person who is exercising those qualities.
It's interesting in a way, how people seem to always put down others, and vice versa, for subjective musical tastes despite the fact that it does no good. It's comparable to pitting religion vs. religion, no good can come from doing that and obviously it's been thousands of years and everyone's still going at it.
Whats strange he's saying the stuff I've been saying for YEARS. :/ but at least he's more organized with how he presents his rant :D <3 thanks torley for sharing your thoughts <3

My summary of this overcaffeinated speech: sometimes limiting your possibilities is better than having to much gear at hand.

Heh, interesting how you take away a small piece that doesn't represent his overall bit.
