Tripod stand - 10 mins with raw cloth and a sewing machine. Booth - 30 mins with ABS or PVC and a sewing machine or velcro. DJ Skirts is outrageously priced.
I made my own with pvc tubes and a plain black saree! it cost me a total of £20 to make and within an hour, it was ready to go!
about 2 mins to put together and take apart and can fit in a regular holdall bag, it also weighs very little! I would have bought something like this but the prices put me off
While I like the cleanup that the dj skirts give, I also dislike the way that they distance you from the crowd. They'd be fine if you're standing up or around most of the time, but just something to consider.
You'd really have to use them to appreciate them. It's hard to express in a video, but it dosen't hide you or put any extra distance between you & the audience (unless you're 4' tall). All it does is put your stuff out of site.
Now see you should have entered the contest to be the FIRST in the UK to own this stuff :). Actually, if you get on it right now and get a video up in the next 24 hours, you could STILL win! I think sometime in the near future, they may just be available in the UK
Check out my channel by clicking on my name (highlighted in blue to the right of the video above the discription). You'll see the contest video. Also, if you check the discription, there is a link to the website and also to places where you can purchase the products :)
Thank you Brian for doing this great video! And thank you all for the great comments that you are posting. As Brian said, there will be a contest coming up soon, so keep watching for more info!
Nice vid, thanks for posting it, i intend to take a look at their web site. Regarding the placing of water, sodas, beers or whatever other type of liquid near the gear--that is one of the first unwritten rules of 'Don'ts'. I never place, or allow anyone else to place any liquid anywhere near my gear. (hey, that rhymes, smile) But seriously, I urge all DJs to break out of the habit of having drinks near their gear; for its a very nasty accident just waiting to happen.
Honestly I would not be impressed at all by a dj thats hiding himself, his equipment, and what hes doing behind a wall. That totally breaks that special connection between the crowd and the dj that the dj is trying to establish...maybe if it wasent so high...about 6 cm to hide all the wires would be much better I think.
Im taller then 4 feet, and If I was to go to one of youre gigs, and I saw you hiding behing that, that would really tell me something about youre self asteem, just as with any other dj
The thing that many don't seem to understand is that when you are a Mobile DJ, it's not about the DJ or what he/she has. It's about the customer. Most customers don't care about our sound system, CD players, light show, etc. We do. Not them. All the customer cares about is a succsessful party.
yes but dont you still want to reflect youre style onto the people? I think you look very professional with the gear you have especially to someone who has no idea what it is or what it really does lol.
As far as reflecting my style on people, it has nothing to do with the equipment from thier perspective. To me, the best style is to get the party started and shut up.
I'm not hiding from anyone. I'm 2 feet taller than any of these booths. In fact, the pro booth and topper are as high as my main rack. You just don't have to LOOK at my main rack or laptop now.
Unfortunately the party, despite what type, is all about 'US'--DJs.I say that, because we're the one whose sound system the people are hearing and dancing, or not dancing to. Therefore the load of it all regarding the success or failure of a party lies in our hands, if we realize that or not. We are the center of attention even more than a bride & groom at a wedding reception beacuse again, it's our prefection or mistakes in our music that's amplified. I accept this responsibility.
Oh I agree that most of the time, we're the ones who make the event sucsessful. Often times we are the ones to get a lot of the attention, too. However, I do believe it is our job to reroute that attention to the bride and groom.
I read a great quote a while back: A good DJ puts his own personality into a wedding. A GREAT DJ puts the Bride & Groom's personality into the wedding.
My big argument here is that most clients don't care about our gear or care to see it (unless we're spinnin')
I hear ya, SKILL, but, with respect, if any DJ thinks they are MORE important than the Bride and Groom at a wedding, their priorities are out of whack.
There are lots of different styles of wedding guys - wacky, laid back, show-offs and music freaks, but it's not OUR big day, so we need to focus on the happy couple.
As I like to tell the Bride and Groom - I'm not the star, you are! So far, that's done me pretty well...
I tend to agree with you. Funny thing is, if parties do turn out right--people always seem to blame us DJs. Of course, it's our job to play dance music, but we can't 'make nobody dance'! I mean, I know what to play, when to play it and how long it should be played. but that's me, I've seen other parties where people just stand around or sit down. I did party once where the crowd wouldn't participate in the Soul Train the party thrower wanted, and these were her guests.
Unfortunatelly, many DJs feel when they go on a gig, it's the "LOOK AT ME" show. Instead, I think we're better off being having a set-up that's discrete as possible (unless it's a gig for teens or something like that) and interacting only as much as we have to. By doing this, the attention is back on the customer which is where, in my oppinion, where it should be
I think that's how most people have done it in the past. The nice part about these system is that they do NOT look home made and they are adjustable for size. When I go to a gig, I'm not always sure what size table I'm going to get or what sized space I'm going to have to work in.
Mahn...You gave me a fantastic idea as 2 what should be the ideal comp. and the gear set up..I will configure my stuff along with the PC just like you have done..
HA! Yeah, I did that for years myself. This is my first fitted table cloth and I really like it! Much easier to get positioned on the table and it dosen't slip slide around while I'm trying to put gear on my table like my bed sheet sollution did.
I like these products. It makes your set-up from looking like a bedroom DJ gone public to looking like a clean professianal DJ club booth with only a few basic materials. Me trying to get into DJing... while I want to do raves... will probably start off doing private parties or weddings and this would make my booth instantly professional standards.
I did make that one, but I don't have it anymore. That's something I'll probably rethink and rebuild in the near future. The decks were just way too far away for me. It was an intiresting idea, but not as functional as I would have hoped it would be.
But VERY cool, especially if you are going to have a pair of tables just for home use and production. You should hook me up with the new blueprints. Keep up doing vids.
Great video again Bri. Since you so kindly let me try out the Topper, I have to say I am hooked. That product is, in Chicago lingo, DA BOMB!
Really quick to install, very tidy and professional looking. I have just GOT to get one for the upcoming wedding season. It takes your rig to a new level of class. Nice one!
Great video Brian! I couldnt imagine doing a gig without my Mobile ProBooth. It really is an amazing product. One product DJ skirts has come out with is their Truss Valence. Whats your opinion on that?

people want to see what the dj is doing

all those nobes and wires, very confusing
i think people want to see the dj we shood keep searching for a better way to cover our cables

another benefit is that with those on the table, people won't put their beer or soda on the DJ table... witch drives me crazy! uahuahuah

We need the Pro Booth in the UK!
You should bring it with you to BPM and see how many DJs ask about it.
All we have here is star cloths with no frame, and they cost the same (or more) than the Pro Booth.

I actually did this video for 2 reasons:
1 - If you look at my last few gig logs, people kept asking about the products
2 - If we're going to have a contest to give away thier products, we should at least explain what the products are.
