Placing those soldiers in a valley at the base of those mountains was just unbelievable. They had one Predator for protection, but that Predator was withdrawn the day of the attack. They had insufficient supplies and very little water. No novice would place troops in such a position. Any officer who did so was negligent and should be cashiered or at least forced to go back and restudy previous battles. Ever heard of Dien Bien Phu? Similar tactical situation.
Call me uninformed if you will but don not say that it easy to understand why we fight insurgents the way it is done or our reasons for fighting in Afghanistan are clear.
This was perfect tactics. Gen. Cambell looks irresponsible to you but to a cynical eye he set a trap with only 2 flaws. First he required supplies to be delivered by a contractor that could be intimidated. Second he allowed the son of a 30yr veteran to be killed and begin an investigation supported by Senator Jim Webb.
These troops were experienced, eager to fight and soon many would be going home.
My heart is with our military, but as a 1987 Citadel graduate with some training (as you might imagine) in tactics, it is RIDICULOUS to place a single American Platoon in an isolated hostile region. I mean this defies common sense. And then to blame the dead soldiers, that is beyond the pale. There was obvious negligence and poor decision making at the COMMAND level here.
Again, God Bless our troops. But is clear something is out of sync with this.
man what a shame, is better not say nothing no report than go ahead and laugh and rubbing it in front of the dead soldiers and families of them, is like, yup we are the top brass here and we don't care . thouse officers shoud be demoted

They were bait and knew it. Honor their courage.
