im stadnding on that stage this summer. it is going to rock. my band is finally getting a shot. i want to standright where billie stood and just close my eyes.
yes that's the infamous gig with John/Al showed up and claimed the gig. Kiftmeyer was a great rock drummer but as older-guy it was "too many rock stars in one band." halfway through this set, there was fighting on the floor. GD stopped playing, and Kiftmeyer came out to front of the stage and got the crowd to chant "losers go home! losers go home!" it was awesomme. oh yeah and hahahaha this was the gig where green day blew headliner bad religion off the face of the earth in front of 800 fans
The amazing talented gorgeous Billie Joe has played on the very stage I have walked on myself. I could cry with happiness. Fuck, I lived in Petaluma man. I go to school there. I WISH I WAS ALIVE TO SEE THEM WHEN THEY PLAYED HERE!!! No fair. Especially because Billie said that playing at the Phoenix is a show he will always remember. Ah shit, well I'm seeing them on August 18th. Haha.
mr bill learned from the best alpha males = at this gig (w/bad religion headining) (it was the famous one where john/al showed up and pulled rank on new drummer Tre) fights broke out during the green day set. al/john came right down off the drum riser, stopped the band and in 30 seconds had the crowd(packed, 800+ capacity easy)(me inc) chanting "loser go home! LOSER GO HOME! LOSER GO HOME!") and shamed the jocks/boneheads right out of the building! awesomme. oh yeah, kitfmeyer was a GREAT drummer
yeahh i seen him play in garage-rock band the Neer Do Wells several years later (in SF). crazy f'n technique. basically right/left ambidextous i believe. two 80's hit-band drummers in that style who just killed it and i loved their style: Kenny Aronoff (john cougar band) and Steven Sweet of, yes, WARRANT. nothing rocks harder than seeing a right-handed drummer/setup who switches to LH/high-hat and SLAMS the snare drum with a full-blast right hand from ear level. then swiches L/R on choruses
john kiffmeyer because tre is not left handed but john is
