  • Alot of these alphabets sounds are similar to mine, especially P and D

  • Am I on drugs?

  • it's kinda creepy, do people with synesthesia get scared of what they hear/feel sometimes?

  • this is SO interesting. i was just diagnosed with color synesthesia, and i never imagined that the letters could be correlated with sounds! so cool!

  • the letter p was very funny, a lot of them sounded scary though :(

  • meant to say that I **wouldn't call it confusion...

  • I would call it confusion maybe jumbling. However, It makes me unconfortable when I watch the video and see letters colors that don't match with the ones I associate with them.

  • @taimao2 so when You read a book even though the text is all black do you actually SEE the words and letters as different colors or do you Imagine them as the colors that you perceive them to be?

  • @zulok1337 I see the color in minds eye is what I'd describe it as. By the way I meant to type I WOULDN'T call it confusion in my original comment. Maybe I'd say jumbling, but not confusion.

  • hold on, so it's not lame?

  • G = Modest Mouse sample? lucky.

  • lol at the p

  • really??? people with synesthesia will experience all of this??? it's kind of weird... really!

  • @mistresmirano I'm not "equipped" with synesthesia, but from what I am aware it is different for everyone :)

  • What because W seems like something more than V so it shifts up a tone? lol shouldn't X be E?

  • Wow this is awesome! Can't stop watching this. I love how L is portrayed. It's has an eerie but magical feeling. Not like my L at all. But still really cool.

  • I love your film, but synaesthesia isn't a disorder. Its an extra sense.

  • disorder /dis·or·der/ (dis-or´der) n. 1. A lack of order or regular arrangement; confusion.

synaesthesia [sin‐ĕs‐thee‐ziă] 1. A blending or confusion of different kinds of sense‐impression, in which one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another.

  • Hi AmaQueenOfDublin

It is not an extra sense, and I use the word 'disorder' in its most neutral sense, in that the regular arrangement of the senses is not present. I'm addressing everyone who has been upset by this when I ask that perhaps you could all look up the definition of words before getting uber politically correct about it. Cheers for watching everyone :)

  • @prawncocktailpirate I would argue that it is simply a different type of order. It's not a confusion really because confusion relates to a failure to understand. So if we synesthetes simply process differently that doesn't make it a disorder (using your given definition of the word disorder).

  • @AmaQueenOfDublin It's not an extra sense...it's a triggering of 2 senses at the same time. Sight combined with color or smell or sound. There are tons of variations. The brain has strange connections. It is a gift for some people. Mozart, Liszt and Rimsky-Korsakov all saw notes in color. How helpful!!

  • I really don't like the letter R, lower case r is ok, but upper case R seems like its an asshole or a punk to me... but the X sounded kind of the same as how I hear it... Great job.

  • Amazing work!! :)

    5 of 5 !

  • E is like the sound that you get as you switch channels on the Tv, that moment of darkness. Or even when you turn it on xD

  • Syneasthesia isnt a disorder its a gift.^^ Good vid though

  • E hurt my ears too! Its so high pitched!

  • How could E hert your ears jlade877

  • FUCK E hurt my ears

  • i dont get it

  • D matched perfect

  • This video made me laugh. Too funny.

  • i pray to god this isnt to insult synesthetic people

  • how could this insult them? if anything it raises understanding and awareness and interest in synaesthesia.

  • No. Its a [cool] video trying to replicate what a synesthetic feels

  • i didnt know that i had synaesthesia until my bro started to ask me this questions about wat colors were the letters (A is red)i also noticed that i can taste letters and numbers. my faborite letter is A!! Mmmmm...yummy

  • E is yellow for me too.

  • how does WTF sound like ? lol

  • p sounds like a fart lol i agree with hiervince

  • You can barely see the dark purple Z at the end.

  • q sounds like me and your mom in bed

  • Wow, I could definitely see the sounds you are thinking of (I have my hearing and vision mixed so I see colors with every sound that comes to me).

  • Me too!

  • the p sounded like a fart

e was like a nightvision goggles

l was like people singing laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • what happened to z

  • Z shows on some computers. Error of some sort.

  • I'm not gonna be sleeping tonight...

  • Z ????

  • P was my favorite

  • I just got finished a Q a few minutes ago.

  • I Like P ahaha

  • i like L

  • The O gave me nightmares.

  • dude, you should see if you have absolute pitch or relative pitch. v and w sounded the same only 'v' was a musical 'c' and 'w' was a musical 'd'. i have AP. that's how i know.

  • Is S suppose to be a snake?

    Please reply ;D

  • PIE

  • poppy come!

  • Sounds about right - everything has a personality whether or not you register it consciously. We are all potentially synesthesists but for some it registers much more than for others. For me it is apparent if I allow it through, but I recognise it as irrelevant. An analogy: If I indulge in this sense, Brussel sprouts have an unpleasant sound ...so what?? How is that meant to be useful? June is yellow and July is a sort of lavender lilac ...so what????????

  • but for some people it is so powerfully brilliant that they cannot comprehend not having it and think it would be depressing if they didnt. like the guy that can taste colours. he eats chicken with ice cream and orange sauce because he likes the mixes of sky blue- a totally different sense to the most likely crap taste of the meal. that is just one example of the power of it. i would love to be synesthetic somehow.

  • Oh dear...even a synesthesia video can't be safe from spam comments.

  • oww... having sound+visual -> touch syn while watching this video really hurt on a lot of those letters.... especially C and X

Q L felt really interesting though... i'm not used to them :P

  • they kinda matched

  • it is nice one buddy!

  • synesthesia sounds so interesting and amazing! all of you out there who have it are so very lucky and talented. i would love to have it or at least experience it even if only once. ^^ X3

  • never thought of getting some ecstasy? ;D

  • i believe you're thinking of LSD my friend

  • no mate i dont think so that with LSD you gonna have synaesthesia...probably a nightmare rather than collorful numbers..

  • Actually LSD doesnt give you a bad trip unless you have high ego or problems in your life you dont deal with.

  • LOL Awesome.

  • gosh i would be taking ibuprofen like crazy if i had to listen to U and E all day!!! :) synesthesia is amazing though, i wish i knew more about it! (i don't have it)

  • wow crazy!

  • Very awesome + I perfectly understand this!

  • nice man!

  • Too awesome. I don't generally have synesthetic responses to letters, but I proofread in a way that I can describe as "looking for the wrong notes in the melody." I have mostly sight-sound synesthesia.

  • lol thats really cool.

  • My dad have this, my mom have this, my sister have this, I have it... Everyone have it! E8-)

  • I feel it. I have this condition

  • This is a really incredible picture of how the alphabet is perceived, especially with the sounds. I see the alphabet similarly (similarly spaced and colored) but don´t experience the sounds. An impressive artistic rendition of this person´s synesthesia.

  • U and O are so funny :-D

  • It tickles! ;)

  • this is awesome! those are not the same sounds and feelings i associate with the same letters in my mind, but its so interesting and fun to see how other people view this stuff.. cuz i'll see a certain letter and be like, ummm no. thats definately not what its like! haha. or sometimes i agree. i feel like i can feel someone elses personality and thinking patterns when i see what "their" synesthesia looks like.

  • G is the beginning of "Devil's Workday" by Modest Mouse

  • The stereo does work. There is a definite difference in the information from the right and left speakers. Pretty cool.

  • Umm... you forgot Z...

  • watch it again?

  • this is different by everyone.. i personally have this phenomenom when i listen to music.. then i can "feel" (see) colors and patterns in my mind its really nice :)

  • Hm...makes me wonder what words must sound/look like. very nice :) I especially liked D,V,and W.

  • interesting!

  • I agree with mf0rz...the sounds (but ESPECIALLY the colours) are ALL off. x)

  • As a synaesthete, I found this completely annoying... It didn't make sense to me. However, I like the attention synaesthesia is receiving these days,. Thus, as a logician, I reward you... 5 stars!

  • I'm a Synnie, but not phoneme. Still, I saw the X as a dog barking. That made me laugh.

  • why would they call this a disorder

  • ya! its totally an order, not a disorder

  • these sounds are to random and sharp it acually made me cringe

  • i have synesthesia, but mine's different... i taste words that i hear or say... it really gives a bad taste in my mouth and it is nothing to be jealous of i promise! 1- sugar 2-bananas 3- bitter idk... just bitter 4-oranges 5-burnt coffee 6-fish 7-chocolate but not as sweet... 8-really bad sfter taste of a bad nut 9-lemons 10-pumkin just not sweet then the whole thing repeats... ugh!

  • yes he does

    thats a form of synesthesia

  • im a girl btw... XD now people have the thoughts of loonatics out there and no one actually finds thing out for themselves when they hear things they are either stuid enough to belive in it or THINK that they are smart enough to not belive in something which would turn out to be true... like the end of the world... people have been predicting it since the beginning of the world which is SUPPOSEABLY in 2012... but i am not happpy with the kind of synesthesia that i have... but then again...

  • this is amazing, and i really cant understand why people gave you two thumbs down...?

anyway i experience the same thing but with textures i dont think i have synesthesia because it doesnt happen all the time

  • I don't know how to explain it... but all of those sounds & letters seem... right... I dont even have it, but it seems that way.

So do you guys hear all that shit going on when reading a book? yikes lol

  • Is synesthesia really as cool as I imagine it to be or am I extremely jealous for no reason?

  • i dunno, but im jealous too

  • sometimes its not cool, sometimes it gets in the way

  • i dont hav letter->soud synesthesia, but i thot alot of those letters' sounds made sense

  • If i had synesthesia and i always related certain letters to the sound that L makes i'd freak out everytime i read a book XD

  • the sounds sounds likes the pronounciation of the letters

i felt scared of the yellow x ..weird

  • Wonderful. My O's and P's have the same colors as your subject's. =]

  • lol at modest mouse G

  • They should totaly put this on Sesame Street.

  • can someone please make the z brighter? it can't be seen.

  • ummm......no

  • you forgot z

  • Z was there, it was dark purple.

  • hey cool! I only see the colors of number/letters and sounds. I don't hear the actual letters very cool!!

  • Nice movie-- except at the end it refers to synesthesia as a disorder. The valedictorian of my class is synesthetic and is one of the most talented human beings I have ever met. This phenomenon does not really put one at a disadvantage.

  • i realize that, however it depends on the individual as to whether the synesthesia is an advantage or not. For people that taste bacon every time they hear their child's name I'm sure it can be rather tiring....

it is classed as a disorder by the textbooks- something i obviously don't agree with. But are you saying people with disorders cannot be talented? Seems rather small minded to me ;)

  • I have a form of synesthesia where I attach personalities and genders to the days of the week, months of the years and even inanimate objects. Whenever I come into a room I become aware of which objects like each other, and which objects are fighting. It's really tiring to be bombarded by that every day.

Then again... it was a relief to find out I had synesthesia and wasn't just a loony!

  • A is not pink, it's yellow! And O is sort of whitish-silver, silly. Also, there is no way Q is orange.

  • But b is yellow. A is supposed to be pink.

  • Is personifying numbers, letters, etc. synesthesia?

  • I had an odd experience when someone slipped me something one time. I just found out that this was the term for it.

It was completely foreign to me. When my friend was speaking to me, I understood his words, but I heard noises, like in this video, and different words had their own shapes, and all of this seemed very familiar from when I was young.

There is another video on youtube that suggests that mind altering drugs can cause temporary synesthesia. I agree, as I have experienced this.

  • The gargling U at 0:44 reminds me of a fetus going glug glug glug. The P made a noise at 0:33. The E at 0:18 sounds like a copier. The S at 0:40 sounds like night.

  • I thought that some were right. others seemed awkward to me. But that's just because they are different to the way I view my letters and numbers and stuff. For instance, C was spot on, so was v and m and n. But the colours were different for me.

  • Ppppppppppppppppppppp

  • hahah lol!!! haha!! the p and the thing at :43 gggggggggggggaaaaarggggggggg lol

  • no way, i agree with V, X and some others, but t is a lot sharper, quicker, like a pin prick.

  • There is a gargling U at 0:43. The T sounds like a cashier. The gargling U sounds like a person gargling.

  • Great job! I like the simplicity of the idea... bye, Elena

  • Want some animals for each letter? Some you may not know. Aoudad binturong coati dowitcher eland fulmar gelada hoatzin indri jaguarundi kinkajou linsang markhor nyala okapi peccary quokka rhea skua tenrec urial viscacha walaroo xenopus frog yapok zorilla.

  • oh and a was right to

  • i also have synesthesia and i couldnt help but to say wrong wrong wrong in my head for almost every letter. lolz {the m was acutally right tho}[and i do know that every syesthesete sees them diffenrtly but i was just saying.]

  • Synesthesia can be a "disorder" - but most of the time it doesn't interfere with daily life. In fact, it can create sensory experiences that enhance people's abilities to perform various tasks - like remember music, spelling, etc. Many of the world great artists and musicians were synesthetes.

  • It is only a "disorder" as the "average" person does not normally have intermingling senses.

I remember things in some synesthetic ways, but from what I understand, with true synesthetes, the intermingling is STRONG. My experiences are just associative and learned, most likely.

  • what?

  • super good!!!

  • They should totaly put this on Sesame Street.

  • For REAL! that would rock.

  • yup

  • Does the woman also see colors with letters as you have portrayed them?

  • Modest Mouse rulez! (letter G) !!

    good video!

  • this video rocks- the sound is amazing!!

  • shame there is no stereo....thankyou for looking darling- but check out my others!

  • Hmm, there seems to be a stereo for me.

Like for my speakers the C is clearly on the right.

I think this video is awesome.
