too complex for beginners, as beginners we want just told its these chords preferably 3 or 4 we know and simple strumming and chord changes and then once we are doing that and getting simple tunes THEN move on to this kinda talk and guitar playing

just keep practicing, alternating bass is a hard thing to do, maybe learn some other songs, then come abck to this one, that always helps me to move forward when i ahve a tough time with something, i just take a break from it and then try to come back to it after a short while, try that, take care and good luck

for the C chord you can alternate your ring finger on the top E string 3rd fret back and forth..it sounds pretty neat and its the way lther perkins made that "walking sound"
