Very nice bowie, I love fixed bladed knifes and the deer horn handle looks very authentic. But I prefer real dear handles. Im about to do a kukri with a deer handle that i killed myself. Overall very nice blade.
the knife is made by cabela's, and they still sell these things. you can also remove the green on the guard, as well as polish it, with tooth paste. tooth paste on metal will act as a fine abrasive, and will really polish the knife up. you can also use those sponges that have 2 sides. one has a sponge side, and the other this weird hard material, that is equivalent to a 3000 grit sandpaper. most of the sponges look like one yellow side, and one green side, or a light blue side, then a dark blue
@xRANDOMxxGUYx The knife is made by cabela's in conjunction with Silver Stag. The newer design features a half guard, but otherwise, it's very similar.
Great video and very nice knife! Do you have any info on the maker or history? I am interested as I have a knife from the same maker but don't know the history or maker.
@ranger08supercub Unfortunately I don't know about this particular knife. It was given to me as a gift and haven't been able to find out much about it.
@edgedweapon88 I have two of these knives, purchased at Wal Mart Missouri. Made by a retired worker who worked for Browning Knife Corp, Sorry I don't have
@ranger08supercub I have some info. back in the wild west there was a soldier in the Alamo who was on of the best. his name was Jim Bowie. he was the forger of the bowie knife which he designed himself. He was known for a lot of cool things. if your interested, look up his name on wikipedia, you'll see some cool stuff. he was a great man.
Thanks for the info. I was not aware that the leather would do that. When I received it form my friend it already had that discoloration so I was not sure what was causing it. I wont store it in its sheath anymore! Thanks again.
Yeah...Leather is porous and if there is any moisture in the air, it will soak it up.
You can probably get most of it off if you rub it with your fingernail. Then use a light brass polish or put it to a buffing wheel to get it back to normal.
Nice knife. Very authentic looking. I suppose I would make one from a deer or elk I hunted and recycled steel sooner than buy one from a store or catalog just to add to the romanticism surrounding the bowie.
That's an awesome knife, especially with the sentimental value attached. I'd like to make a couple of corrections, though: The handguard is brass, not copper. Also, the pattern on the blade isn't machining marks, its a decorative technique called jewelling. That knife, and others from the same maker, are sold by Cabella's (or at least used to be) and according to them, they are made from used circular sawmill blades, which makes an excellent knife.

I saw that exact same make of Bowie Knife with an identical sheath at a local gun and knife show yesterday selling for $300.

My dads got the same knife. I always like to hold it. The only difference is that his handle is a bit different.

If you're curious, I know who makes the knife. The web address is too long to fit in here, so let me know.

Looks like deer antler handle, brass finger guard, and the swirls on the blade is called "engine turning" or "jeweling" not machine marks.

Keelen.
Judging by the green on the brass guard.
Would I be right in saying you store the knife in its sheath?
If thats the case. Remove it form the sheath when its put away or into storage.
It helps to keep moisture from the knife and the leather is not being streched over long periods of time making the fit looser.
Otherwise...a really nice Stag Bowie
