1.) get chloroseptic spray. Spray your tongue, it will numb it and take any discomfort away.

2.) switch to acrylic ASAP, its better for your teeth and gums.

3.) choose a place with GOOD reviews and then choose a person who's got experience doing tongues.

4.) Drink a TONN of ice water, this helps with the swelling, you'll notice this is better than sucking on ice as the ice will melt around the bar.

5.) dont drink anything with a straw.

i hear the swelling goes down after maybe a few days to a week. it really does differ from person to person. some people don't swell up at all. it shouldn't hurt to get it pierced but the day after you may be in a lot of pain. and with the eating of solid foods it depends on the person some people can eat solid foods day after getting it pierced it depends on how much your tongue swells. and to avoid infections talk to the piercer and make shurr you fully understand on how to clean it

@Toyotumi Swelling goes down in about 2-3 days 4 tops, drink a lot of ice water and the swelling will go down faster, the softer the foods you eat the better. It's not painful just uncomfortable you may have swelling in your neck too, i did, if you're worried about the swelling in terms of work, do it on a day where you have four or five days off after. Wait about two weeks to change it, just make sure everything is clean and you will be fine. Chloroseptic spray will help tremendously!

@Toyotumi Also it will only hurt if you go to someone who doesn't have a lot of experience, for me, i didn't even feel it and i'm terrified of needles i faint and throw up when i get pierced and it was so fast i didn't even have time to think about it. Also use the chloroseptic spray before you get it done, spray your tongue, top and bottom, and let it sit there and soak in, it will numb you so much you wont feel a thing!

I do brush my teeth and clean the tongue with a mouth rinse everytime a eat or drink something that is not water,but i just don't get why is it still swollen? I went to the pharmacy lately and they gave me a free-alcohol mouthwash and its really minty and sometimes it burns a bit;I have experienced an increase of headache since the last 3 days and i don't know why! @riccardorrm hey, when i pierced my tongue a few months ago, the first thing i did was getting into a fast food restaurant and asking for some ice cubes in a cup. as soon as i got the cup full of ice, i would eat small ice cubes for about five straight hours before going to sleep... i kept eating ice cubes for two more days... my tongue was never swollen! i don't tecommend you any mouthwash, since you are washing the saliva that helps your healing... i would try some ice :) i love ice
