People who don't know why Cubs fans love Harry, you didn't watch the games where the Cubs were down 8 runs, and resigned to losing and here is Harry rambling on and on. It was so funny! !But he was a fairly honest man.
I'd take Harry Caray over any announcer who ever lived. He was simply the coolest.
The prizes got worse and worse as the years go by. I remember passing the Cracker Jack factory - I think it was on Cicero Ave. somewhere in Chicago. I still have a taste for it now and then. Greatest thing: the commercials from the 60s featuring Jack Gilford (look for them on YouTube).
Love it at 1:02. Classic. Long live the legend of Harry. I'm doing my part with a little ditty with Harry on the Terry Mulholland trade on my channel.
Typical Harry - the game takes a back seat to one of his dragged-out stories.
Watch comic John Caponera (?) do his Harry bit sometime... (I'm paraphrasing) "So I was out on Rush Street last night at this greasy spoon - there's a fastball off Sandberg's head, both benches clear - and I decide to order up some tacos - they're carrying him off the field I think he's dead - and I go and try to find some Kaopectate..."
@Issaquan5 I remember this game. there was a CJ promotion at the ballpark that day. I think everyone was expecting Harry to wax nostalgic about Cracker Jack and instead he went off. Vintage Harry.
HEY! what if the book was made of barbecue spare ribs? would you eat it then? its a simple question its not rocket science. just say yse and we'll move on.
Classic, just classic. Man do I miss him. Listening him progressively get blitzed throughout 9 innings. Watching him almost fall out of the booth during the 7th inning stretch. And poor Steve Stone trying to do post-game while Harry's almost passed out.
In the world of sports, Mike Tyson bit a man's ear off...I don't know what all the hooplah's about...I've actually bit a man's ear off on several occasions!...And I'm not proud of it but it's helped me out of many a jam!
He's hilarious he was a baseball commentator and he said here's the pitch and didn't even tell you if it was a ball or strike just went on with his story like their isn't a game going on..the best.
@toolintention ..............well thats all the time we have today, next week we are going to have special guest Dr. Albert Einstein. Well ive been informed Albert Einstein died 42 years ago, well we will try to get him anyway. CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!
as an avid Reds fan I have always hated the Cubs, but I always loved Harry Caray. I would watch more Cubs games than anything just to hear that guy (and cause I live in Indiana and they show every game on WGN). RIP Harry!!!!
HEY!!! We all know the moon isn't made of green cheese, but if it was made out of bbq spare ribs...would you eat it then? I know I would. HECK!!! I'd have seconds.
-- Great memories from my childhood. Man, that guy could call a game better than anybody (inaccuracies and inattention to key details be damned). He was the greatest. Just can't watch the cubbies anymore without Harry calling the game. It was like sitting next to an extremely knowledgeable, though half tanked Uncle, who was paying (some) attention to the game but paying full attention to having fun. What a personality... sorely missed =(

I love how hes like "Theres a bouncing ball.....", "Heres the pitch" and never goes on to tell ya what happened, ball? strike? hit? ground ball out? lol just back to the cracker jacks
@alexcubs25 How about it. I havent been able to watch a game since Harry died. It's just not the same. "They're here from Kalanoogala California, cheering on the Cubs....bouncing ball, Sandberg, over to first. There's danger here sheereeeeee

id kill to have him broadcast just one more game. when he left, that was the end of the fan's fan in the broadcast booth. there will never be anyone like him ever again.
Salt of the earth... helluva guy. One of the greatest of the greats. Totally down to earth and a fan's fan.
Considering how bad the Cubs normally were, Harry's totally random musings were the real entertainment. And his angry reactions when the Cubbies let him down (or his excited, heartfelt cheering when they actually won). I miss him. Most sports-announcers are too robotic, too rote and scripted.
Harry rocked. I still miss "CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! HOLY COW"
