It was made with 2/3 of a front so that the operator could jump on after pushing it to start. It is direct drive, has no transmission or belts, just a gear connecting the engine ot the rear axle. Having this motor car and restoring some signals have brought me to better understand and appreciat their part in successful railroading even more. But I don't work on them during the hot days of summer or when it is freezing cold and snowing.
