  • It was made with 2/3 of a front so that the operator could jump on after pushing it to start. It is direct drive, has no transmission or belts, just a gear connecting the engine ot the rear axle. It is 1921 technology that was used by VGN, then N&W, then NS until it was retired in 1986. Thanks for your comment.

    Thanks friends! I have held railroad signal maintainers and linemen in high regard for decades. Having this motor car and restoring some signals have brought me to better understand and appreciat their part in successful railroading even more. But I don't work on them during the hot days of summer or when it is freezing cold and snowing.
