  • Amazing miniatures behind, on the background. Behzad, may be?

Proud to be persian speaker! ;)

  • صوت أسطورة وطرب وحيد من نوعه......بديع

  • Is there an English translation of this poem? I am dying to know what it's about. Can't stop listening to this.

  • @Neddhartha

Inclination for the sward, the cypress of my sward, wberefore maketh not?

The fellow-companion of the rose, becometh not? Memory of the lily maketh not?

Yesterday, I complained of His tress and what a pity,

Said that this black servant never listens to me not.

Until, into the curl of His tress, went my foolish heart,

On account of that long Journey, the resolution of visiting its native land, it of itself

    maketh not.

  • @amrzar Thank you very kindly, Amrzar. This is the best holiday present I could imagine receiving. [bows deeply] I am much in your debt, good sir.

  • @Neddhartha

Welcome my friend! This belongs to a Persian poet "HAFEZ". Here is a link to download all his poems translated in English if you are interested!

    rapidshare[dot]com/files/616660058/Hafez.zip

    ( replace [dot] with '.' )

By the way, happy new year!

  • @amrzar That file seems to be no longer available. Do you have another source? Also, could you tell me the number of this ghazal by Hafez?

  • @Neddhartha This is ghazal [192]. I have just uploaded by do not know why it does not work!

    Check [h]ttp://[w]ww.parstech.org/ez27X02zkkBV/1238.zip

( Remove all brackets '[]' - sorry posting URL this way, this is youtube rule not to include address)

  • @Neddhartha This is ghazal [192]

  • @amrzar Are you sure the number is 192? That seems to be a different poem.

    writing[dot]com/main/view_item/item_id/1505880-English--Urdu-Translation-of-Hafiz-192

    (replace dots)

  • @Neddhartha Base on my own Persian Edition it is [192]. But as i checked in your web site , they refer to it as [90].

  • @Neddhartha But as i checked the translation of this web site is too far from the real concepts in the poems!?:O

  • @amrzar Well, I found the translation that you quoted on the web, Amrzar, and I have to say that it's not making very much sense in English. It reads more like a computer translation than something done by a human. LOL. I know, because I'm a literary translator myself (German => English). Maybe together we can come up something better?

  • @Neddhartha i would be honoured to help, but i am just a computer engineering student and literature is far out of my league (Too complex)! Sometimes, i myself can not sink in their full meanings. But if you are serious i could search to find out if there is a good English translation of this text published so far.

  • @amrzar Where do you live? I love this music so much! The first song of Shajarian's that I fell in love with was Morghe Sahar. I couldn't stop listening to it. Then I found this one. Same thing. I am fascinated by the rhythms and melodies, how different they are from Western music. Although it does remind me of some of the older Medieval music from Europe, and also has more than a touch of Indian music in it.

    We should stay in touch.

  • @amrzar Are you on Facebook? If you take the first 3 letters of my nick here, you have my first name. Then remember the first name of the famous American actor whose last name was Bogart. Put those two together and you have my name on Facebook. I'm the only one with that name. If you friend me we can talk anytime.

  • @Neddhartha It would be very nice! i am currently living in Malaysia. Just searched for you name on Facebook. It returned two results. i sent request for both of them. Hope i could catch you on the Facebook!

  • @Neddhartha

Submissiveness, before the bow of His eye-brow, I keep displaying; but,

Ear-drawn it is. Therefore, for me, the ear, He maketh not.

Notwithstanding all this perfume of Thy skirt, in respect of the wind, wonder cometh

    to me,

That, by Thy passing, the dust, the musk of Khotan, it maketh not.

When with the wind, the violet tress becometh full of twist:

Alas! Of that time of curl, what recollection that my heart maketh not.

  • @Neddhartha

In hope of union with Thee, the fellow-companion of the soul, my heart is not:

In desire of Thy street, the service of the body, my soul maketh not.

If my Saki of silver leg giveth naught but dregs,

The body all mouth, like the wine-cup, who is there that maketh not.

Not listening to counsel, Hafez was slain by Thy glance:

Fit is the sword for him, who the comprehension of speech maketh not.

One thing you got wrong though. There's no such thing as an "Afghani"; it is "Afghan".

  • At a young age he is so good. No doubt Ostad taught him everything he knew. I'm just thinking what he can accomplish when gets to his father's age. We are so lucky that Ostad would have such a great successor.
