This whole series completely ignores another view of reality ,as it is rooted only in Western thought, which is that of Buddhism. It is said that Buddhists believe that reality is an illusory projection of the ego although the Buddha clearly taught that reality exists objectively but our perception of it is inevitably subjective. Enlightenment results from understanding the true nature of reality. This understanding resolves the apparent conflict Schaeffer proposes as a delusion.
@MrRiphunter This series doesn't look at Eastern thought because that is not it's purpose, it's titled "How Should We Then Live, The Rise and Decline of Western Thought and Culture". However believing that reality exists but our understanding of it is subjective does not resolve the conflict, there is still no basis for understanding reality. What do you do when your subjective view of reality conflicts someone else's?
Well stated. More than one worldview can account for reality as it is seen. Though personally I see Schaeffer's and the Buddha's as not wholly adequate.
Francis Schaefeer is using a Straw Man argument against Humanism in favour of his absolute acceptance of the Bible as the true repesentation of reality and the natural world. This turns the argument on its head where the humanistic approach of studying nature to arrive at universal truth is considered false in relation to the world as described in the Bible where humans can walk on water, raise the dead and turn water into wine. Which approach to reality do you choose to believe?

When I hear organ music I always think of Dracula or Phantom of the Opera - yuck! Oh the power of suggestion.
