I'd love it for this to be a regular segment, Dave. A weekly show to keep TYT in check is very much needed, I find myself pulling my hair out over some of the things you've mentioned Cenk does.
I also completely disagree with Cenk here, in fact, I think the media is hyping up the situation in Syria far to much. The media is exaggerating what's going on in Syria because they want to push the public opinion in favor of sanctions and possibly war, to depose the only anti-Israeli leader in the Arab world. This absurd notion that Israel would rather have their only enemy remain in power, rather than a pro-American government is absurd. Infact it is completely the other way round.
I feel like if TYT gets a very passionate intern we might get a well-rounded segment/hour of international news. I think that could balance it out, Dave.
I'm fairly certain that the reference is towards the TV media. Most people still get their news (or lack thereof) from TV which is a crucial distinction to make here.
My big thing is they don't show bodies. Front pages of newspapers should be photos of dead people. CNN should show dead people on TV. they don't, and people don't care as much.
What he doesn't point out is where these stories are covered in the papers he lists. Are the featured or are they buried? This makes all the difference in the world to anyone reporting on or consuming the news.
I always enjoy Dave's critique of some of TYT's stories. I love TYT but it's important to have a thoughtful, honest counterpoint like this to call it out when there are inaccuracies or problems with the way they frame a story.
I love TYT and I have so much respect for Dave. It's not like he's talking shit about his boss cause he's been with TYT since the start but I LOVE that he'll call TYT out like this.
Uncharacteristically imperceptive Dave. Simply labelling TV media giants like CNN "crap media" doesn't change the fact that they too fall under the umbrella term "mainstream media". Given how small a % of people rely on the print media for their news, TV is arguably more mainstream than the NYT or WP and if the TV media isn't covering Syria adequately comparative to the print media, then that is a notable failure and it is fallacious on your part to concentrate solely on print media coverage.
ah dave. When i am hitting my head against a brick wall after seeing cenk spout shit i come and watch you and it calms me down. Thanks for being intelligent and not just ignoring facts like cenk times sometimes
Point taken Dave, BUT I have to disagree. On the issue of Syria and Iran, news from the middle east takes priority over news from other parts of the world. Iran and Syria are much more important strategically, to the US. Guatemala and South Sudan simply are not. You can't cover all the news. Secondly, on the mainstream media, i'm sorry Dave, but newspapers are no longer mainstream. TV News is mainstream and the internet is sooooo saturated, that it is difficult to judge the internet either way.
Also. Recalling 1 day Cenk read about (possible) manning following @theyoungturks and @ggreenwald on twitter, Cenk got so hype up and made a video to brag, then Manning is pretty much forgotten, RT has 10 times more coverage.
These fire and forget "commentary" also leads to fake "centrism" like old CNN, Cenk read news article on Dr Paul is anti war cenk and comment on 1 video, then Cenk read 5 news article on him being racist cenk comment on 5 video. Then he goes around claiming fair.
Oh finally, some much needed voice to "regulate" TYT web and current show.
TYT before MSNBC and definitely before CURRENT, is just a small scale operation, Cenk / Ana just process as much news article as possible in the morning and they comment on it like my grandpa on the newspaper. The success comes from their styles and principle, nothing more.
Of course now that Cenk is having more access and resource and actually half "MSM" now, Cenk should be more focus on their objectives.
People barely read the newspaper these days. TV media is where most of the young people get their news and where a lot of people do, mostly because it's easier than reading. However, I actually agree with you Dave, I wish we did have more international news on TV in the US. It would help to combat the amero-centric nature of most people's worldview and possibly broaden their horizons a little.

Disagreed. What about SOPA/PIPA, for example? The none of mainstream media channels said boo about SOPA/PIPA until blackout day.
