wow..what a match with long rallies! i want both of them to be back to their top form. they both have impressive footwork and can play defensive games with beautiful backhand slices. not on power, but rather on speed!

ever since Henine retired in 2008... we've had 3 different WTA players ranked number one without a sngle title in slams

ivanovic lost her consistency, the williams still couldnt care less about non-slam events, and even when henine tried coming back, its still less than satisfactory

@foul01 this mightve been the last real quality match, stage wise (lot at stake), tennis wise (amazing rallies and great play from both), and crowd involvement (you never hear the crowd roar for wta matches anymore). Maybe the 2009 wimbledon semi, or the 2010 AO final come close but that's it. WTA is in dark times these days..

@williamsfan4ever I disagree. The level of play here (on this surface) is higher than Venus or Serena could produce at that time, and even though that power type of tennis at the USO was high, there was a lot less at stake at that point. The winner of this match would get the nr.1 ranking for their first time, and the first Serb in history at that. (Serbian revolution with Djoko on the mens) The Serena/Venus that year is overshadowed by lots of other matches they've played.
