  • In the past two months, I had to replace this controller three times :( The first time, the controller started slow turning. The second time, the right trigger was not registering all of my pulls. The third time, the left trigger stopped working. I really really really wanted to love this controller, but it is just too faulty. Back to the original 360 controller for me.

  • i have this cntrllr & the analog stiks hav an unnatural down drift. i know that after a bit any cntrllr's analog stiks will drift, but the drift on this controller is very cnsdrable & not like any other drift i've seen w/ any other cntrllrs. it drifts DIRECTLY down, & the drifting is sort of "twitchy" i've heard other ppl hav had the same problem with their controllers + i ALWAYS baby everythng i own, w/ that said, i'm sure this is not due 2 mistreatment. i don't recommend this controller 2 any1

  • Great vid!! Do you shotgun w/ your middle or index finger (while wall bouncing) using the Onza?

  • do you think i shud buy the razer onza te

  • I boight it 3 days ago, and the reason was the extra buttons. One of my dreams on gears of war was being able to do the rollo r wal bounce and being able to use the right trigger. After this 3 days, i've learnt a little bit, and i hace to say it is AWSOME. If you're surrounded by several enemys, you can dodge almost every attack, and every time I play it gets better and better. I receomend it highly for gears of war fans.

  • you should go into politics dude you're a very good speaker

  • how much money ? And Were ?

  • is the controller lite ????

  • Great video, it would be cool if you did an update of how you use the onza with Gears 3. Waiting for mine to be delivered.

  • I'm so buying one now bro!! Love what yall do at amazyn, making me pro one youtube video at a time!! If you wanna get down on some koth hit me up (Dan1mals hous3)

  • feels like a dumb question but what do you think is the best way to adapt to the a maped to the right multi function.

  • Great intro vid for the Onza, just ordered mine, looking forward to getting to grips with it. Especially for Gears. Gonna take some practice, but I think it'll workout for the best.

  • So with your setup, how do you reload while roadie running? Middle finger?

  • @BarrowRoll I alternate between using my middle finger and my rolling my index onto the MFB.

  • FRIKI xD

  • very nice video Arctic, you really understands how to catch people attention.

But i have had this controller for a week now. Im enjoying very much so far. I played halo reach during the week and the controller made a huge difference, improving my gameplay. Now im playing gears with it, and my only problem is, that it really hurts holding it. Having the a set to one of the mappable buttons. It forces you to spread out your middle finger and index finger very much. u guys have the same problem?

  • @Keosegner I haven't had that issue actually, maybe initially, but it feels really natural now. I've been playing with the controller for over a year so I think I'm just adjusted to it

  • @arCtiCvBi Okay well then its just me.

i had it for a over a month now, using it for gearss 3 and i found a solution for the problem. Now i play with my middle finger placed resting just beneath the trigger, forcing me to move it everytime i have to presse the tringer with my indexfinger, i got used to it, now. And its worth it. Cant see my self playing with the normal ms controller again. U can also fix this problem by using middlefingers fro triggers, i just couldnt get used to that on both

  • Your voice is inspirational.

  • @StewedBrisket thank you :)

  • I love mines but I can't keep sending it back to repair every three months.

  • Hey arctic, I bought this controller because of this review but in my opinion, the buttons wear out. Gears require the use of the A button a lot and I found out that this wears out the A button. My A button is pressed into the controller and less elevated than before. I don't even get the response I need to and sometimes I have to switch back to my normal Xbox controller because it doesn't even respond to A. It was fun for the first few weeks but now I can't use it.

  • @JFDEZTV I'm not sure if you got this issue resolved but you should check with Razer about it.

  • with the wall bouncing i just use my index finger lol

  • What's your GOW2 K/D?

  • @aceofkills his k/d is probally good as fuck, he use to be "pro" and etc.......lol

  • i just claw

  • I have had mine for over a week now and on Gears it makes the biggest difference. I still use my regular controller for CoD and Halo but for Gears the right bumper as A is dirty.

  • @OhMyAshes Yeah it's deadly with A on the right bumper.

  • I am wondering does mlg plan on banning it?

  • @XxEvilAustynxX It is not banned for Halo Reach, so probably not. I'm also fairly certain I mentioned that it wasn't banned in the video.

  • @arCtiCvBi I just don't want to buy a condole then not be able to use it in GoW3 MLG. I know you said it in the video. I was just wondering if you have heard of inside talk about them maybe banning it. Or if it is certain that they are going to keep itt. (you're the only person I trust with info about GoW3)

  • wow... i wasn't going to get this controller because it was wired controller, but with the Multi-Function A button is awesome.. i have trouble wall bouncing because i have to move my right thumb from the A to the right stick all the time

  • @INxURxHEAD Yeah I really love it.

  • @arCtiCvBi would you prefer using the razer onza TE or the regular xbox controller with fps freeks on them for gears?

  • @SuperFilmsINC I don't claw so I wouldn't know.

  • I picked it up and was god like in an hour! Not really i'm too good for a controller ;)

  • amare stodimire lolzzz

  • I use the crab technique when I'm playing which is basically like this but you use your index finger for the X Y A B buttons so you don't have to move you're thumb.

  • How often do they break on you? My right mappable button stopped responding consitently and it stops roadie running for me at random, also it sometimes just stops responding entirely. My left stick is very loose, and if I don't touch my controller it will still move into a direction. kind of dissapointing really, I've only been using one for a month.

  • @SprunkG I haven't had any issues with mine actually.

  • @arCtiCvBi You never had to replace it since summer 2010? Wow.. I must be unlucky then..

  • @SprunkG I think arctic may have been given a super sturdy controller from Razer so they have a good impression from a known player. Don't get me wrong, I have the Onza and it's a great controller but I've only had it for a month and my right thumbstick is starting to go whack on me. I've also heard of a ton of other people having issues with it as well. If they could just improve the durability and dependability of it it'd be the best controller out there.

  • @xiondisc360 Yeah, the ones in production are made in china, his might not be. I still really like it though and I simply bought a second one...

  • @SprunkG I would be ok with just buying another one since it's the same price as an MS controller but I don't want to have to buy a new controller every couple months simply because they don't last. I've still got two MS controllers that I got with my first Xbox 360 back in '07 that still work fine.

  • @xiondisc360 To be frank I don't last longer than a couple of months with the original MS controllers either.

  • @SprunkG I'd be cool if my controllers broke that often but they don't so I dunno if i'd like buying a new controller every few months

  • @xiondisc360 Apperantly you get a warranty on the controller so you can just sent it to razer or microsoft depending on which controller broke. Sending it is a hassle though.

  • @arCtiCvBi would you say that the adjustable analog sticks on the TE are useful in gears of war? Also, is the grip noticably helpful? thanks, love your videos.

  • Im getting the tournament edition of this controller after a RMA for a 26 pound razer mouse lol. So I havent got a clue what im recieving really, so is it any good guys?

  • I just wish the multi function buttons were swapped with the bumpers. Other than that, I am supremely pleased with mine. Well, I guess I'd prefer if the triggers felt a little bit more natural, but that is a distant second to the wish for swapped MFs and bumpers.

  • I just ordered a TE. Arctic I'm really digging your Gears of War videos. Please keep posting em. :)

  • its a console controller, its easier than putting in the batteries to use.

  • Thanks for posting this vid man. The edge it could give you in Gears is what pushed me to buy it. I received it in the mail a couple days ago and I'm still adjusting to it. I started out using my A button mapped to the RMFB because that seemed like it would be easiest for me but now I have it mapped to LMFB and I adjusted to it very quickly. I now use RMFB for my reloading since I'm more used to the button being on the very top of the controller instead of part way down it.

  • @arCtiCvBi Razor ONZA controller has great ideas but it wasn't comfortable to me. Remapp button are way to close to the LB & RB. Triggers feel way to long and your fingers feel locked in place. Tension Stick, Face Buttons were & still are the best part about the controller. That's why I got the XCM Re-Mapper it's allows me to change all my controller buttons the way I see fit just like you would do in a PC game.

  • @arCtiCvBi Razor ONZA is banned from touraments. To comment about being comfortable. When I first play my Xbox 360 the controller felt like butter in your hands. That's a good, I didn't have to fight with the controller. Using the R.ONZA I was comfortable at all. Even using a Xbox controller than switching to a PS3 felt more comfortable. Razor O trigger didn't allow my fingers to rest. My Hand crap up for the first tiime ever playing video games

  • O_o its not that hard to get used to.... took me about a whole day of scrimming would not take a week lol...

  • @rumblyblu quick learner =)

  • @arCtiCvBi I spose, but there isnt at all that much to get used to tbh... the thing i found hardest to get the hang of was the back and start button being at the bottom, the shape of the actual controller was quite hard to get used to. You would think that the hardest would be learn the new bumpers.....

  • You haven't meet me then arctic I had the razer onza down in 2 days maybe even less ;)

  • @arCtiCvBi I had the RAZOR ONZA bought it at bestbuy I return after one week. I now own a device call XCM Re-Mapper, YouTube it. In gears I run with LB, switch to Nasher with Y, switch to Lancer or HB with A. It's the best.

  • @iiiweap0nxiii Yeah I don't think that XCM Re-Mapper would be legal at competitive gaming events, so I don't think I'll be using it.

  • if i order it on friday, how long will it take, be honest with me

    -upROAR

  • @Hypezalot 3-5 working days... so you should get it on tuesday probably.

  • which one is better tournament or regular?

  • @NiNJASmuIRIF I play with the tournament, it's about personal preference though. The TE has a few more options. Check one of the reviews I linked to determine which you would prefer/

  • @NiNJASmuIRIF obviously the tournament.... asitis better O_o. hence why the SE is cheaper

  • i have a quick question. do you keep your index finger on the rmfb at all times and press rt with your middle or do you press both with your index?

  • @MariOH205 i'm training myself to keep my index finger on the RMFB at all times while using my middle finger for the RT.

  • @arCtiCvBi haha yeah that's what i'm trying to do now also. i just got it today and it felt awkward using the index on both and wanted to get your opinion since you have had the controller for so long. thanks for replying.

  • Amazon still says this will take 1 to 2 months to ship, why is Razer taking so long to get these out?

  • @levimoreno based on what I know there is a very high demand for the Onza and they've had trouble keeping them in supply.

  • Are you gonna post any SC2 content on this channel, cause that would be super awesome.

  • @Omgonthe123 We stream SC2 on Fridays 8pm EST on my channel.

  • @arCtiCvBi Do you know the Aimon XB ? If you know it or already got it, could you make a review of it ?

  • @blackout0119 I'm familiar with it, but I'm not sure if it released or what. I wasn't too interested in a mouse and keyboard on the 360.

  • @blackout0119 well mouse and "wand" to be more exact.

  • @WEIMA112 I hate when two people are having a mature healthy debate and some morons come in and flame like they're 10 years old. I'll slow down so you can process this in your stupid mind. Everyone has the ability to dl a game to their hard drive. Everyone has the ability to wear headsets. I'm talking about a third party device that gives a play and advantage over another. Now STFU.

  • I'd put the left one as shotgun or nades

  • @chillahibbz sadly you cant assign to the d-pad

  • can you bring this control to lan?

  • @badcompany2isthebest yeah and @Hypno7ized brought up a good point. I've seen them at Best Buy and most recently Walmart.

  • @badcompany2isthebest I got mines from Best Buy, I got the last one :D

  • @badcompany2isthebest you can purchase them on Amazon .com or on Razer's official website.

  • The one thing wallbouncers need: An easier way to kill my sorry ass!

  • Nice showcase of the new controller. I've been using mine for Gears of War since February this year; I have the MFBs set to Start and Back, as I find the new locations of those buttons unreachable during play.

  • @AutoPsychotic why do you have one set to start?

  • @xNnickK Because the location of the Start button on the Onza is awkward and unintuitive.

  • How light is the controller?

I currently am playing with the MS controller with the rumble packs removed and its very light.

    How does this compare?

  • @Zoxxic \The controller is slightly lighter than the MS controller, but not lighter than a microsoft controller without rumble sticks.

  • I thought this video will show how Gears of War is played with the Razer Onza in a GB/MLG scrim or ranked match. It's interesting how you configured the MFBs but to see this in a real match would be great.

  • @freshzug I linked to gameplay, but the controller wasn't out when I played GB/MLG matches and the Beta didn't have private matches.

  • @arCtiCvBi I'm sorry if I sounded offensive but english is not my native language so I have problems expressing myself correctly. I appreciate and liked all of your videos. What I meant was it would be great if you could post a full multiplayer match with this window showing your hands operating the Razer Onza.

  • i dont know why you think your middlefinger is faster than indexfinger, i played quake since '99 professionally and never heard anyone say that.

  • @exevah well I said it because I tested it. We're not talking about PC gaming btw, just pointing that out.

  • This is no different then using a headset or high-end monitor / TV, etc..

  • @youtubedude except it really doesn't have a high end price.

  • The Razer Onza feels almost tenuous in my hands. But you delivered a few valid points in which others (like myself) expected to pick up this controller as a solution to correct all the problems a Microsoft controller brings. I hate to say it, but the onza reminds me of the horrific Mad Catz game pad, except with several unique features. I don't understand how you are practically obsessed over this controller, to each his own I guess.

  • @lRoofie I've used it longer and everything Mad Catz, hard to believe you put them on that level, I've ever used has been a load of junk. I definitely respect anyone that disagrees with it, and I wouldn't say I'm "obsessed" but I find it better than the MS controller. My biggest thing is people are trying to play one week with it and expect it to feel like an MS controller.

  • @lRoofie on a separate note I'm actually looking forward to seeing the controller that Mad Catz and MLG produce, considering MLG and Razer were initially in cohoots over the controller that Mad Catz is now building.

  • Comment removed

  • During the video it says "The onza is legal at MLG events" but I'd like to point out that it is only usable for Halo Reach at MLG...not Black Ops, it is currently under review for Gears of War3 for the 2012 season.

  • @BButtonChaos Black Ops is for the PS3 the Onza is only compatible for Xbox 360 and PC.

  • @arCtiCvBi Just stating what Vivi said on MLG equipment forums. :)

  • Technically, this is cheating since you have an advantage over the standard crowd that uses normal controllers. On the other hand, you could argue that it's not since anyone can buy this controller. The counter is that you shouldn't have to own a certain controller in order to be on even grounds. Sorry, but this controller seems like BS to me.

  • Seems pretty cool, I might try it out one day. :D

  • Are the sticks on the standard edition any different in feel from the sticks on the tournament edition? The feel of the analog sticks was the only thing that prevented me from keeping the Onza.

  • For me, the middle finger isn't faster. I don't know why... I spent hours trying it out... Just couldn't beat my index finger speed.

  • Does anyone know where I might be able to test out this controller before I actually buy it? It looks ridiculously sweet, and since Gears is my favorite game, I am definitely intrigued. But I don't want to buy it just to have it be a bust.

  • it took me a week to get used to convex analog stick on my xbox360 controller

  • I have the exact same set up only reversed. Left MFB is A and right MFB is B. Most people I know set their "jump/dodge/movement" actions to a MFB and their "melee/crouch" actions to a MFB since both benefit the most from a constant thumb presence on the right analog stick.

Works in CoD, Halo, and Gears.

Halo and Gears benefits the most from the two MFBs since the "A" button is used the most in both games.

  • I got a Razer. Hate it. The face buttons are HYPER sensitive. So sensitive that it thinks you're hitting them multiple times in a row while not responding at all other times. This drove me crazy when playing Portal 2 as I'd either make a tiny hop or not jump at all. It kinda improved when I took the controller apart and put a piece of thick paper stock on the buttons, but still inconsistant.

Now a month later, the sticks are ghosting just like the Hori EX 2. Horrible purchase.

  • @Vashthesexystampede Continued....

I may have just gotten a defective controller, but complaints on the Razer forums and other gaming sites echo my experiences. At least I got a refund. If the problems ever get fixed, I'd be interested in trying it again.

  • i have a modded controler and its great but it took forever note i dont youse itall the time only for fun

  • Love you guys to death, liked the vid, but I'm sorry. This is cheating.

  • @action937 cheating, really? How so? You're not programming a sequence of buttons, like a macro controller. There's no rapid fire or mods. If Gears of War allowed for a "bumper jumper" controller setting there would be very little difference. I feel like it adds to the game, the controller doesn't alter the game mechanics like a rapid fire button or as i said map as sequence of buttons (prevalent in fighting games). Elaborate =)

  • @arCtiCvBi totally agree. I have the onza also and it helps a little but not too much. I love the feel and after all it is tournament legal so its not cheating :)

  • @arCtiCvBi Absolutely. Look no further than 2:20. This allows you to perform actions that are unavailable to someone like me with a regular controller. I am physically unable to perform moves that you can simply because of hardware. I would have to purchase one (cheat) in order to be on equal footing. You have an advantage that I do not. Is is worse than mapping buttons or rapid fire? no. of course not. But I'm not arguing degree. I'm arguing true or false.

  • @action937 You have validity, but where you look at it as "cheating" I look at it from a developer/programming standpoint. I am not changing any of the game mechanics or altering the performance of the game. I am changing my button layout. If Gears of War offered that at the design level, your argument wouldn't hold water because I would have my "bumper jumper" setting. Fom that standpoint I can't help but disagree with your viewpoint.

  • @arCtiCvBi My argument is only be enhanced if they offered that at a design level. Everyone would be on equal ground. And they should. But they don't. That's like saying, they should give you the option of having the hammerburst fire more quickly, so I'm just going to use turbo because it should have been in the design docs to begin with. Changing button layout for convenience purposes is different than doing it so you can physically perform moves I can't. An interesting debate to be sure.

  • @action937 On the contrary, if in fact you learned to "claw" using a MS controller you would have the same user-end affect which is why I don't in any form see this as cheating. The game mechanics aren't altered and you mentioned a turbo controller, but a turbo controller alters the game's mechanics.

  • @arCtiCvBi It's a fair point. I think we just draw the line in the sand at different points. You draws a line in altering game mechanics. I draw a line in any hardware that gives a competative advantage.

  • @action937 In that case, better not install the game to your hard drive, because it will load faster and run smoother, giving you a competitive advantage!

  • I thought most of the good players clicked the trigger button with their middle finger... My friends thought I was weird when I said I clicked RT with my middle finger. nice review, but I find it will be difficult to adjust to that controller. I think my fingers are fast enough to melee an opponent and run away from them by pressing A or B....

  • @flightgotgame at the highest competitive level in the MLG atmosphere/setting players look for any edge over their opponents. It's the same with any sport really. Being able to keep your thumb on the analog while staying mobile can be the difference in winning or losing some shotgun fights. If you're playing at the level some of us do, that means you could be losing out on potential money. For your average, everyday gamer it really won't make a difference, but for some it's huge.

  • @arCtiCvBi very true. Whatever it takes to win. Do you just play gears competitively or do you play other games competitively as well?

  • @flightgotgame Gears of War and Battlefield, although I've played a few Call of Duty and Halo tournaments.

  • @arCtiCvBi nice... love the gears gameplay... keep the videos coming...

  • @arCtiCvBi I was thinking of putting my Left MFB on A, but won't it wear and tear over a period of time? I noticed that the A button is slighty closer to the analog than the default MS controller. Since GoW2 is slow, sometimes you choke and start looking up to the sky in a intense 1v1. But it doesn't happen that often. I'm trying it anyways though to see if it's a good choice for an MFB..

  • i bought the onza gave it 2 days couldnt get the muscle memory down returned it, i just find the multi function and default bumpers too small.....they could have made it regular size and made the controller top a little bigger IMO........

  • @SpaceObake yeah that's what I've seen from a number of people. It's hard to adjust after playing with the same peripheral (MS controller) for a few years versus picking something up that is slightly different and trying to learn it right away.

  • In my opinion the build quality of the Onza needs to be improved before I will consider it again, but none of this gets raised by testers and reviewers.

  • @lankymart I've been using the same Onza since December 2010. I have noted in the comments of my written review that there have been complaints on some of them not working correctly.

  • @arCtiCvBi Have you experienced anything yourself? Seemed strange that I get two controllers and each has a problem, put me right off a third.

  • @lankymart the only thing I noticed with mine is that the tension is inconsistent. I haven't experienced any issues with the SE controller. Skyllus (a teammate of mine) also used an SE controller and has not experienced any issues, however one of my other teammates Calinorth experienced issues with his A button as well. As I said it is something that I've noted, but I personally haven't experienced any issues and have been using my same controller for 5 months.

  • The button would click as if it was pressed but no action would be performed, quick test went into the message window in live and spammed letters using the A button and about 75% of the time the A button wouldn't register. I could even get it if I spammed it quick enough to not register at all! Not what I would call "hyper responsive", so sent it back for a full refund.

  • These reviews and recommendations are all well and good but I got one as a present and the LED panel on the back was fitted upside down so sent it back for a replacement. When the replacement arrived it lasted a weekend before the A button started to become inconsistant between presses, very noticeable in gears not so much in other games.

  • !!Have you experienced slow turn on these controllers, because i know all xbox models have slow turn.!!

  • @Zoxxic there have been reports of slow turn, the only time I experienced symptoms that resemble slow turn are when I mess with the analog tension. I keep those at 0 for that reason and it's noted in my written review. The SE sticks, at least for me, did not have any slow turn. The rate that you get slow turn seems to be much less persistent than the MS controller but it has been noted in the Onza.

  • I'm guessing you never use the joystick resistance feature?

  • @asgiov I don't use the tension on gears too slow for shotgun.

  • @arCtiCvBi I assigned RT to the right bumper and it works really well for me compared to the full draw of the RT. Have you tried experimenting with this?

  • @GiddyupHorsie360 It shoots a bit faster for semi-automatic weapons, but I didn't prefer it to my current onza setup.

  • Comment removed

  • i have the A buttom remapped on the left, and had the B button remapped on the right at first, when i noticed mele was off in the beta i mapped the x button. but i see how having A on the right is better somehow, i'll play around with it. still working on my bouncing, still struggling though... thnx alot!

  • Awesome

  • This is a great controller, but does require you to learn how to use it. I have no idea how many times I have hit the incorrect shoulder button and the bat-triggers feel strange at first. Only issue I've had is when trying to assign RSB to a bumper it seems to assign LSB instead. Not a gamebreaker, though. Well worth the purchase.

  • Ive got one and its a good controller..my only problem with it is I have very large hands so sometimes I hit both buttons at the same time...nice vid arctic!

  • @ncgatorbait thanks I actually used to hit both buttons quite a bit the first two months or so, it doesn't happen as frequently because I've changed up how I actually pressed the buttons (using two separate fingers)

  • It shouldn't be legal since it has extra buttons.

  • @pokechips you payed money for something, so why not

  • @SlantedYeti Yeah, but not all things you pay money for are legal in MLG events. Like, you can't use any wireless controllers, or headsets, you would have to go buy some wired controllers and headset. (No play and charge kits.) Plus the controller can't have any extra buttons on it.

  • @pokechips the things you said before are because there would be to many wireless controllers and headsets and they would mess with each other frequencies.

  • @xGreenf0x I know.

  • Comment removed

  • I'll probably end up buying this. I think it would be awesome if you could change B for RB and A for LB though.

  • i want one....

  • If you are in need of a new controller, and are willing to spend time to get used to the controller, I would buy it. I have it and I'm happy with my buy so far. :)

  • sweet

  • first :D

  • these vids are excellent

  • My only problem with the onza is that the microphone jack breaks really quickly...

  • I bought a Razer Onza TE because of your videos :)

  • But I do like that button mapping, I have been playing with the claw to aim and wallbounce so that looks cool

  • mate im trying too get a hold of them im in australia so any help would be handy

  • Nice, but I have lost interest in gears. I find it to easy and no one I know plays clan. Sniper montages have ruined the game for me. Im playing SC2 now. But Gears was fun whilst it lasted
