My Compaq Presario CQ-60 417-DX is now almost 2 years old, and it's only been lately shutting down on me due to overheating.. I downloaded this program, and the temperatures are around 55C and 56C.. So I guess if you end up like me, shoot yourself in the head because this laptop blows. All the fans are working properly, and I cleaned all the dust out of the heatsink.

@Dj2slick1 you need to get a good after market cpu cooler(for the processor) they are usually around $50 for a good one(if you dont put forward at least that much you might get one thats even worse than the one you have now, so dont skimp out on it)

btw are you still on stock fan?

and might help to make sure your computer isnt dusty. this will make fans spin slower because everthings all clogged up and other bad effects

GPU is you Graphics Processing Unit, in English.. ur graphics card's "cpu"

GPU= Graphics card. Also 60C is nice but most of the time your parts will run over 60C. If you are using a high end card such as a GTX 480 by Nvidia, your temp will be arround 95C. 95C is ok as long as the card is built for it. As for your CPU it should not get over 80C.

@Simonthastomato Depending on your graphics card those temps look normal. If you have a 9800GT by Nvidia or ATI's equal thats a great temp if you are playing games. Also the CPU and the GPU are made out of silicon so its designed to heat up and cool down very quickly. You can test this by taking the heatsink off the CPU and booting up your computer while touching the CPU.

@MrDannyel17 You have a Core2 Duo processor if yours is Intel. That means you have 2 cores VS a quad core (4 cores). Your GPU might not show up if you have an onboard chipset GPU. That is the lowest kind of GPU and should NOT be used for gaming as its performance is very poor.

@allibowthepilot All of your temps look great. The -129 is messed up clearly and it does the same for me. Anything under 60C is great but its safe even up to 70C after you hit 80C you need to start searching for the problem.

@HypertricityStudios If your GPU is at 115C you need to stop overclocking. If you are not overclocking something is wrong about your GPU and you should check the fan speed first if not contact your manufacturer.

@Zazori2 That is a perfectly fine temp. Anything over 80C is when you need to start thinking about whats going wrong. If it gets that high you can do a few things. First get a new heatsink/fan second fix the fan speed and third turn down your clockspeeds if you have it overclocked.
