Why would you want to stick a 32x into a SNES, Mark? It's kinda unnecessary, since the graphics are better on the SNES than most (but not all) 32x games.

From what i understand the 32X is 'basically' - well not very basic back then - a video card for the Genesis, it pastes additional detail - more sprites at higher color depth - onto the Genesis generated image. So good news, not only the players was fucked with hooking it up, but poor developers also must have loved it a lot...

@AMYuntold Even though the 32x has no dedicated video processing hardware... It hold 2 SH-2 32-bit processors and a PWM sound synth (which only about 4 games even used) the only video "processing" hardware was what mixed the Genesis video and output what ever the SH-2s generated.

There was nothing great about the 32x in my opinion. None of the games were worth the price of the system. Plus the thing was ugly looking. I remember I bought the 32x when I was a kid and got MK2 for it, thinking it was going to be awesome. Well it sucked. Doom would have been alright except for the fact the music was terrible. This reviewer is too kind to the system. It was a gigantic piece of garbage.

Ahhh, the poor, doomed 32X. The sad thing is, if they had just released it as a standalone console that was backwards compatible with the Genesis, rather than as a complicated add-on that needed a special cable and extra power supply, it may well have done better. Though it would have required lots of third party game support, another weakness of the system and latter-day Sega.

SEGA are the Lancia of the video gaming world. They released great things with only minor issues with each, had one monumental flop (the 32x and the Beta coupe), and had an amazing revolutionary design in the works but never released it to the public (Neptune and the 2002 Delta). Plus they made some things that didn't make sense within the current era(Virtua games on the base genesis and retractable rear wings). anyone agree?

Following that, they'd need to make it cheap while still making a profit, while in competition with gaming giants who've already got a large variety of games and have sold their consoles already. i agree, especially considering the saturn uses the genesis 68000 cpu as a sound cpu and the same cpu as the 32x only faster and 2 of them (SH2). So backwards compatability with the genesis and 32x or even the sega cd which also used a 68000 only at 12Mhz instead of 7Mhz..

Sonic Jam on the saturn actually uses the 68000 cpu to play the old sonic genesis games.

Metal Head was my first real 3D game. It hasn't aged well, but it's still fun to play. You can also set the tempo of the BGM to play as fast or slow you want. I thought that was the coolest thing ever back then.

1 you extend the life of the genesis.

2 you don't need to buy a new 32bit gameconsole+it,s less expansive.

3 no slow loading times unlike 32bit cd systems.

4 in conjunktion with the sega cd you get hicher storage capacity.

5 it,s compatible with genesis games.

6 more powerfull then cd32 & 3do system.
