Hey I have a question that ive been wondering about for a while, does guitar quality affect sweeping?like is sweeping on a 1000$ guitar easier than sweeping on a 200$ guitar?hope I don't sound like a noob, been playing for 5 years but my guitar is a piece, hope to hear back thanks a bunch
@SteveChandlerFTW A better quality guitar will most definately effect how well you can play sweep arpeggios. The difference in the clarity of the pickups alone can make a good sweep sound crappy.
Are you hitting string s on the down stroke to get that effect and are you muting your string from the top portion? I understand the hammer on also are you using a lagato technique are you coming back with a upstroke with your guitar pick
"on the 11th string..." haha, i wonder what that would look like if the guitar was like 20 strings with one neck and none of the strings were paired up.
[epic voice]The All New, 20 string guitar with a 15 inch wide neck! Shred your way through 50 octaves!
this is advanced lol, it might be "easy" for people like you and me but still keep in mind on a technical and musical theory level this is somewhat advanced, so don't make an ass of yourself by saying this and make some kid who's starting to learn stuff like this feel like crap lol =P
An educated guess. About £2000 ( over $3000) maybe a little more. Its a PRS but I'm not sure which one even though I did a little Googling to find out. It has dot inlays so it is prolly in the ''mid'' PRS price range.
But you have to understand also, that this guy probably had custom fretting, his choice of custom pickups, same with the neck and body, so that guitar's probably worth 3,000 American.
I don't know if that's what you were talking about, and if I'm wrong, I feel like a jackass and I apologize.
How about the classical guitar player's who predate jazz or blues by hundred's of year's.Spain,Italy,France,England known for producing a lot of great guitar composer's through the age's as well as Morocco.Blues/jazz was is ethnic and was a music made by people that waren' t properly trained but played anyhow and it's all feel, but blues is very basic in comparison to jazz because jazz adopted proper element's through the year's.
i liked this lesson, he actually took the time to not just show you something but was telling you not to put too much drive on it for that sound he's getting, most people just run through there lessons, even though im a metal guitarist so there for drive and gain is pretty essential. but i though it was a good lesson non the less.
I much prefer tapping the seventh and sliding to the root, though I guess on the major triad it won't make too much of a tonal difference. Just not a fan of the sixth in arpeggios...
@ThrashDeth17 is It weird that you're a complete dumbass. Don't you know that the first "shredder" on guitar was Charlie Christian? He was the first to use the guitar as a lead instrument. -A black guy. So why don't you forget about Hendrix, B.B King and countless others that changed the way the guitar was played forever...everyone admits influence. Someone as musically and historically stupid as yourself probably does'nt even know who the father of rock and roll is...Not Elvis, Its Chuck Berry
Thrash's statement was pretty rediculous but Charlie Christian was definitely NOT the first player to use the guitar as a lead instrument when guys like Django predated him. Lets not forget that in Classical guitar the guitar is a solo instrument which predates jazz. You could make the argument that jazz predates rock and roll and that jazz started in the African American community, I just don't like when any race tries to assume responsibility for one genre of music since influences run deep.
yes I know about Djando Reinhardt...and I know it definitely IS arguable...are we talking about recording dates or actual fact? are you just counting the time he played with Benny Goodman in 1939? AND oh yeah I forgot about blues guitarists that predate all the jazz guitarist Blind Lemon Jefferson who sang the blue notes he played on the guitar in the early 1920's..
.and equally I don't like when credit is taken from those it belongs to.... its like the Chinese saying they invented the light bulb. but maybe they did because Thomas Edison could have been influenced by fire works. Let's give Edison his credit. Classical guitar in its very nature is not like saxophone lines or related to pre-dated blues or jazz, maybe Tal Farlow or Joe Pass style of playing which came much later....I wasn't talking about solo guitar but lead playing... anyways thanks for the
@knowthisonce haha no its not necessary, thanks for the well thought out response. I think at the end of the day its enough to know that Thrash is a racist idiot and we agree about that.
hey sorry if this was already answered but when coming down after taping on 16th and then 14th taped then is the 12th fret on the high e on the way down picked or a pull of with your right hand taping finger still or what?
Realize he has a really high gain here, some chorus and balanced tone. Your slides will never sound like that if you're a "muscle" player like myself-I tap so hard I've dented fingerboards from letting my nails get too long.
If you tapped that hard wouldn't everything you play be sharp? I don't know exactly how hard to tap but if you dent the fretboard... not only is that bad for the fret board but if you're doing tapping like the guy in the vid is doing... wouldn't you be hitting your nails against the strings? Not the fretboard? I don't really know.
I do a combination of tapping and pressing depending on the sequence,. If it's a true 8 finger arpeggio, which hardly anyone actually does regardless of claims, that's more of pressing or what's known as "touch technique". It's sort of a pressing hard and releasing technique for complex sequences.
For sequences that use say 4-6 fingers but may involve using whichever of your 8 fingers that suit the pattern best(the false 8 finger taps), that's generally where I tap.
There are a lot of lessons on youtube to help you but really the only way is to practice slowly until you get coordination with both hands, then slowly increase the speed. Nobody learns to sweep over night =P
Nice work but...haha there's always a but with me, I'd say that's intermediate as opposed to advanced. Very good lessons though, all you guys probably make big bucks as teachers.
I'd say advanced is 6-8 finger sequential patterns.
lol, good vid, but looks like someone forgot he wasn't playing a 12 String, or a Jimmy Page guitar, (damn I forgot what model that was, I'll probably remember in a few minutes.)

That's the beautiful thing about music.
It doesn't matter a damn bit what color your skin happens to be.
When it's music, it's heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears.
One of the best bluesman, Stevie Ray Vaughan, white boy.
And even B.B. King agrees, he's one of the best bluesman he's ever heard and jammed with.
So I agree, man.
