  • coolest thing ever

  • Kk pretty nice, but what happens when a curious polar bear comes into it? LOOL

  • i wonder what will happen if the exit is block by snow that falls in and the candle went out

  • Awsome

  • couldnt it fall? please answer my question

  • @ashan95 If it's strong ice then no, this is for more arctic conditions you can't just make it in your backyard.

  • ...when they lit the candle and the whole snow cave was melt! :)

  • I would struggle with claustrophobia I think, the thought of the cave collapsing would never leaven my mind :(

  • @Ashitaka255 i am in boy scouts and i had to make a snow cave that lasted for 5 days and it collapsed on the last day but it was no use to me because we where leaving the day it collapsed.

  • very very nice video but who caries around a saw and a candle in a survival situation lol but i have watch plenty of your videos and you are a very talented survivalist no doubt about it.. keep up the good work!!

  • loved his statistic , "cuts the work by a 1/3" how did he work that out lol

  • If you love that saw so much why don't you marry it.

  • search for "how to build a snow cave step by step" to see my attempt at building a snow cave! A few useful suggestions are given there, too..

  • Glad I always have an 18 inch crosscut saw with me whenever I get caught in mountain survival scenario.

    Pointless vid.

Real situation you use whatever you have.

  • @nolobede

    real situation you go prepared

  • @efsq

Except my point is that an body going truly "prepared" has something to do the job. Just not some saw from his garage. My point... not a well thought out production video, silly when trying to call it a "survival" video.

  • lol minecraft in real life

  • HURRY MAKE SHELTER AND SURVIVE ZOMBIES AND SKELETONS ARE COMING OUT AND THERE MIGHT EVEN BE EXPLODING PENISES!

    Minecraft Much? lol...

  • @Robloxguy1297 u play it too... SWEET (: lol

  • @thecourier100 minecraft FTW

  • @darkroronoa be careful! It may be a Hambush.

  • HURRY

    HURRY GUYS

BUILD THE CAVE BEFORE SUNDOWN, THE MONSTERS ARE COMING D:

  • @CheifyX 1: close minecraft

    2:go outside

  • @Skelables 1: learn that this is a joke

    2: jump off a bridge

  • @CheifyX 1: I knew it was a joke

    2: No.

  • "Wood cutting sword". lol

  • @TheMetallicaGods baird.

  • @tashpish thats my surname, wat do u mean

  • i wonder if it would be fun to eat a ham sandwich in there?

  • haha anybody know what the wedge cutting music is?

  • The saw helped thanks.

  • next lets find a bacon tree

  • ray mears

  • 1 thing "Minecraft"

  • Comment removed

  • 1:32 epic wedge cutting music

  • @Razarediah

    lol!

  • Death sentence! Do NOT do this! A 20 cm (6-inch) roof of snow over your head will keep you just as warm, without the risk - and it's even stronger, if curved right. The insanely thick and flat roof in this video would weigh as much as a man and would suffocate you in a collapse. There are much better snow cave how-to videos online!!

  • thats the most beautiful song in the world

  • i did someting like this but i needed to brake ice so i used a hammer and im 12 years old

  • that is perhaps the best snow cave I've seen in a long time...

  • Kick ass

  • a candle gives a little warm.....please what worm gives the 1 candle!?!?! and this thing must takes hours to build...it is not that easy to dig into snow...what about the energy you have wasted

  • @Sabq When there is a blizzard and snow is pouring down, using a little bit of energy to build a cave like this will keep you warmer than the wind and snow will. Don't think of it as wasting energy, think of it as investing. A cave like this can save lives.

  • @ThousandthMilePK yes true ..i m all for building this cave thing...but don;t you think that candle giving warm is SHIT

  • Check out my cross map tomahawk and snow fort!

  • Whats the song at 1:33 ?

  • cool

  • IM GONNA BUILD THIS AND USE THE BLOCKS TO MAKE A IGLO:D

  • how much snow??!!!

  • correct me if im wrong but carbon monoxide would build up from a candle (not much at all) because it is a form of combustion, like a car's engines, fuel burning and not all burning perfectly fuses elements in exactly perfect proportions

  • @anlm1 Yes, but the point of the candle is so that you will know if there is no oxygen. A candle can't burn without oxygen, so if the candle goes out, then you need to get out!

  • @MrSirSkillet that was directed at priceethewarrior's comment (9 months ago), srry 4got to post it as a reply

  • @MrSirSkillet and btw thanks for the example, i didn't think of that, but i wasn't criticizing the candle being in there, js

  • @MrSirSkillet You'll not run out of oxygen you'll die from a build up of carbon monoxide. A vent hole in the roof will release it as it's lighter than air. Leave a ski pole in the hole so you can quickly clear it in the night if you have to.

  • where is the beer

  • I'm a scout master in Utah and we build and camp in snow caves every year. We DO carry small saws with us to check layers in the snow pack (very useful for digging the caves out as well). The only thing we do differently is that our ceilings are only about 1 foot thick. It is just as warm and not dnagerous if it caves in. When we "tear down" the caves after the campout we have to jump up and down on them. I'm 6'2" 220 lbs and a 12"ceiling takes my weight without cave in. Very sturdy

  • @jtadams22 yes. and, what about burning calories? because of homeostasis the human body burns more calories faster to keep them warm, what would you do for that?

  • @Demonlord275 stay still

  • to the ppl that ask: why would you be carrying a saw in the mountains? it makes good sense to carry a saw to evaluate the layers in the snowpack quickly for avalanche danger. that, in addition to checking forecasts and terrain maps to know where you'll be on/below slopes likely to slide >25-30 degrees

  • f*ck the ice caves, im going to mexico!

  • wouldnt the candle melt the ice above it

  • @MrWeeRhys The melting point of ice = +20 celcius

  • @winky4u No! all over 0 C is the melting point of ice. +20 C is a summer temp or close to the normal room temp which is 21 C.

  • @pricethewarrior they light a candle...

  • Carbon dioxide builds up not monoxide unless you have a car running in there. Retart.

  • great video . another benefit is that bank of america can't foreclose since theres no paperwork involved !

  • Good video, but I'll stick to a Travelodge.

  • cool

  • does it collapse?

  • @charlesfootballrules does it collapse? yeah if your not Ray Mears.

  • what if it collapses?

  • whats up with that music hahaha

  • whats the song at 1:32 ?

  • i would be scared the roof would cave in

  • you know what i think we can expect n the furture? the abiltity to 'like' videos and 'tweet' them even though they are on youtube

  • That was like the last time I was caught out, but I had no saw, no candle and no snow; Im lucky I'm still here.

  • @Centuwion1 The title says Extreme, hense last case scenario :)

  • @CiaranRooney125 I agree although centuwion1 is right aswell

  • MacGyverish thingy!

  • i thought we had snow haha there is literally 10 times more there

  • Comment removed

  • The snow is so deep there amazing.

  • 0:01

  • in Norway we make a snow cave and sleep in it on school

  • i just made one in ENGLAND!

  • @spyroTwij Ahhh that sounds awesome

  • Burning candle may give off carbon monoxide. Looks comfy enough to me.

  • Comment removed

  • looks great

  • @xcoolperson god all u haters get it all wrong look how fuckin deep the snow is of course it isn't going to collapse and besides he's a survival expert he knows what he's doin

  • its nice until it colapses on u

  • @XCoolperson I was thinking the same thing haha. Collapse, you're dead...

  • "Time for the door Eh?"

  • it is carbon di oxide not carbon mon oxide

  • @Skateman1998 carbon dioxide is what your body lets out as waste of oxygen

carbon minoxide is a waste product of burning and combustion

and its n ot CARBON DI OXIDE OR CARBON MON OXIDE

    its carbon dioxide

    and carbon minoxide

  • @ghostrider433 thanks

  • Comment removed

  • excellent video!

  • what if it got closed in or the candle melted it?

  • @iiReMz

The candle wouldn't be that hot to melt the snow. There is a lot of heat inside the cave and the colder temps outside keep the snow from melting your cave.

  • awesome video, you really helped me!

  • 1. Ray needs to invest in a survival shovel.

    2. Ray needs to learn how to build a quinzhee.

  • Haha i gor burried 2 yaers ago 4 meters under snow :P

  • @wow6430wow how are you still alive

  • @itis17 I got digged up in around 30 mins after :D we we*re playing at some big mountains of snow and my mate jumps down from teh top and all falls over me D:

  • does anyone go in the mountains with a saw?!!

( he should rather use skis or dig with his hands :)

  • Thanks to this every time i go up mountains i always take my lightweight shovle and a saw now, you just never know...

  • once upon a time the snow cave collapsed on ray...

  • in soviet Russia, snow make cave in YOU!

  • Pretty beastly, they did it ancient yeti style. Lol :D

  • is that suitable for gays???

  • @kittukumars you're an idiot

  • @19WarDog ofcourse im born idiot..

  • if you made the roof more of an arch shape would it make it less likely to collapse?

  • I'd like to sleep in that...about how warm will it get with just 2 bodies and a candle???

  • @GoRambling body temperature

  • @maxdragonn --- are you saying it will be 98.6 degrees in there???

  • @GoRambling ahahaha, no, probably around 68. their jackets will prevent most body heat from escaping, but the candle will act as a heater. after about 12 hours or so, it will be noticeably warmer inside then outside. The snow will melt and refreeze causing a solid roof.

But since there's an air vent, I'm not so sure about any of that.

  • This music creeps me out!!

  • If only I could remember to take a shovel and saw with me the next time Im hiking in the snowy mountains

  • where was this?

  • THAT IS BITCHIN!

  • This is not snowcave... ths is claustrophobia cave....

  • look how awsome and deep the bloody snow is. its awsome and amazing.

  • so the first piece of music is "o euchari", but what's the second piece that starts at 3:17?

  • mannn ive alwayd wanted to do something like this, but theres never any snow here in TEXAS AHHHHHH

  • @minion6500

there will be again...one day, alas you won't be there

  • Sound idea, if I land , unexpectedly in the wilderness with a spade, a saw , I can do this.

  • looks coozy :D

  • @weirdfishArp hmmmm nice feeling you gave me haha cup of tea and a bed time horror story..

  • @weirdfishArp it is (likely).

  • The point is being prepared. Being prepared is a big part of survival training. The average fucktard wouldn't walk around with a saw, or extra gear, and that's why they die. I'm amazed at how many jackasses who've never moved out of their parent's house have such strong opinions on how to survive in these situations.

  • Extreme survival? who walks around the mountains with a saw in their backpack?

  • r1

Only Ray Mears and James Wan

  • Only Ray Mears and James Wan

  • People who'd like to dig kickass snow caves? :]

  • @redden1000 Anyone who needs it. (everybody where snow is 50cm or more) Make sure you make a mound at least 150cm high.

  • Anyone interested in actually surviving. Saws are excellent for carving ice or snow. If you're hiking in the mountains, a small saw can be invaluable.

  • @redden1000 probably professional hikers

  • agree

  • @redden1000 Anyone with enough sense to realise there is a possibility of being stranded on the mountain and needs to build a cave in order to survive.

    ~Frosty.

  • Freezing to death isn't such a bad way to go, I'd be more concerned with asphyxia since the brain still needs blood/oxygen still active in your skull while the rest of your body is frozen/incapacitated.

  • I would think it would be pretty painful to freeze to death as the extremities feel like they're burning...

  • i think its funny, like hell he did that on his own, i bet he got someone to do it for him :P

  • awsome

  • Just imagine, you're down there, and it collapses , all over you, and you freeze to death.

  • Impossible, you can sit on top of your cave and it wont budge, ive tried

  • i dont see 1 video on youtube that shows how to make a snow cave without a huge pile i wanna see one where they make the huge pile that takes real work

  • @devin2491 lol

  • I think you mean a Quinzee

  • if that thing were to fall in you would be screwed

  • SURVIVAL

  • looks so cool

  • That looks sick!

  • its co2 that builds up, not co monoxide is from combustion or natural gas etc.

  • yeah, it would be cool to build one....but look how deep the snow is. The snow is a good 7 feet and they didnt hit the grass

  • Dude i live in maryland and i got like 3 and a half feet of snow

  • Ah yes, there it is, my 1 foot saw that I packed in my backpack...

  • omg I def want to build a snow cave now :) wonder what happens if an avalanche comes :x is it deep enough that the roof supports the additional weight??? who knows, but I have to build a cave now :P

  • quinzhee are way better!

  • every single one of these peeps doing biographies, documentaries, how-to shows

    are. all. British.

    =D

lmao. i wanna make a snow cave! but we don't have enough snow yet o_O

  • @sillychad18 Whare do you live i live in virginia and were getting over 3 foot in the next 2 days

  • @Casman011, well I live near Toronto. =P we haven't gotten much snow yet.

  • YEah we just got a boat load about 2 feet ive made a snow oile and trying to dig it out now its kinda hard though were havin a state of emergancy it pretty bad down here

  • im in mississippi and we just got 5 inches of snow...not as much as yall but a lot for down here

  • @drfeelgoodfilms Grab a shovel and pile it up, let it sit for a day, then hollow it out, lol. Thats what me and my bro use to do every winter. That and tunnel into snow drifts.

  • @Casman011 Dude I'm in Maryland right now and we're getting pummeled with snow. Already about 2 1/2 feet of snow with about 9 more hours of snowing to go!

  • Comment removed

  • me 2 and they wont plow my hill so my family and neighbors have to

  • im in maryland 2 and its CRAZY! i love this snow!, i havent had any skool all week and i have been making tunnels and igloos all day!

  • @newspot221 Here in Virginia we've had about 3 feet of snow, plus drifts making it 4-5 in some spots. my bro and I have made a MASSIVE igloo. It is capable of housing a campfire. We tried to start one yesterday but it wouldn't start, it was wayyyy too damp in there. We had it raised up on rocks and everything. : (

  • Why would there be carbon monoxide building up?

  • Because we breathe oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. And in such an enclosed space for such a long time the air will finish and if you are sleeping you wont even notice it. Hope this helped.

  • sure carbon dioxide, but no monoxide!

  • Any open flame in the shelter produces CO

  • Yeah, but fire makes carbon monoxide. Well ,maybe he made a mistake.

  • you'll notice at about 2:15 he made a hole in the roof that lets the CO escape

  • if that caved in, wouldn't you die?

  • you would but it would be highly unlikly it caved
