MR STPNE ROSES HIMSELF! ANY BODY GOT ANY OBJECTION? LET ME KNOW BITCHES...........U KANT NOK HIM.......GREAT SONG WRITER GREAT PAITER.....ECT...........OH AN HE FORMED THE ROSES! NUFF SAID!
he cant sign and he arranges these songs around his vocals which make the whole song terrible the roses and seahorses were better WHY ? because it wasnt to do with him singing.
Hey, I was bored...but he sure doesn't look anything like the JS of the Roses era...glad you noticed, even if it was a 'stretch'....I'm not going totally insane! lol
Wow! Great tune, really shows how much of an amazing song writer John is! His solo stuff is just like the Roses!!!! I'm not a big fan of Ian Browns kinda hip hop stuff these days! I guess it goes to show Squire was the main songwriter in the Roses!!! Am I right? Squire did write the lyrics yeah???
@lazyitus Never stopped listening to the albums to have to get them out again, This tune sounds like it could have been a Roses tune to me, really reminds of What the World is Waiting For!
Ah no bother man, I know the feeling, lol, Yeah Squire is a phenomenal player, so simple and yet extremely effective, (not so simple all the time tho!) he seems to me as a mix between Johnny Marr and Jimmy Page!
great great tune. can't believe johnny boy quit music, although he is an amazing artist. can't he do both? i love his solo stuff. i love his voice. music needs this guy.
It took a few listens before i got this, but it's great once it gets under your skin. Innovative guitar sound, (people you have to listen carefully). I hope John gets back to making music when he feels ready, frustrating as it may be, whats the point of doing it if his hearts not in it? I'm sick of all these empty headed people slagging him off for choosing his art over music. What would you prefer? seeing him drag some meaningless shit around the world like U2?
I think at some point he probably will, what I suspect is that he'll wait untill a time when the music press will have no interest in what he's doing, I get the impression that it's all the bullshit in the music industry that's upset him, not the music itself.

How could you go from such greatness to this crap. Its just hard to believe. In a span of two years- 1987 to 1989 (The "Sally Cinnamon to One love" years), every song was simply brilliant. I used to consider Squire a god. Damn you squire. How could you do this to us fans.
i.b's solo work by himself-sunshine,deeppiledreams,lovelikeafoutian,free my way, destiny or circumstance, upsidedown, homeiswheretheheartis=all shit and roses stuff by just IB=straight 2 the man=more shit!
This is excruciating. Music is about innovation as much as it is melody. The Roses had both, this has neither. At least Ian Brown is trying to push the envelope with beats and directions (mariachi/rock/dance/funk/acid house/rap/dark instrumentals/singing in Spanish etc etc). So is Mani with Primal Scream (always mental) . This is just bland. And his voice sounds like an action mans chainsaw. A weedy buzz. Get it sorted John. You know you've got it in you.
john wrote the majority of the roses stuff-the main reason the roses fell apart was browns terrible voice(check any 2ndcoming performance) how many solo tracks has brown wrote alone?
Thanks Mr Squire - Marshall's House was a great album and if you can't find someone nice to sing with I'm happy if you sing yourself. At least your voice is in tune live ;)
Funny how people always seem to side with one person or another after a great bands split, though...personally I think you've both done great songs like this and Ian's Shadow of a Saint.
ive seen squire twice a sheperds bush empire, once at the move festival and up at the ICA, fantastic, plays his own under rated solo stuff and balances is out with crowd pleasers, true legend. Brown's nothing compared to this man.
Much more satisfying than Brown's recent solo stuff. Squire was the Roses, they wouldn't have got anywhere without him. Brown was (and is) tone deaf. Any youngsters looking to get into music should take note from Squire, not Brown. John has incredible talent whereas Ian just feeds off his own image.
its painful seeing him after the roses. everyone doubted ian after the split, and said squire would be the most successful post-roses... long live king monkey.
AdamB summed it up there, people think john can't sing but he is miles ahead of brown, if anyones eveer seen him live. squire has something called talent.
Brown has presence, Ive seen it live many times! Unfortunately Squires hasnt. Brill guitarist and song writer, but he aint no Ian Brown that is for sure!!
John Squire was The Stone Roses, it pisses me off hearing all these little twats bumming Ian Brown just because he was the lead singer, they are the type of people that know fuck all about music. Ian was the least important member of the roses. Without John they wouldnt have got anywhere. His solo stuff is great, if you dont like his voice, go fuck yourself. Simple as.
this song an album r uplifiting, his 1st record was a bit nostalgic, i can understand that ppl hav trouble with the voice but once u get past that there is gud music behind
Alot of people knock john squire, but his input into the stone roses was massive apart from playing the guitar and writing the songs he also wrote all the bass lines and alot of people who like heavier music prefer second coming which he basically wrote him self. His solo stuff is shit though.
His solo stuff isnt shit, fair enough if you dont like his voice but the standard of music is still as excellent as always.
"his input into the stone roses was massive"
His imput WAS the stone roses. Reni and Mani were brilliant but like you said, John wrote their bits too. The funny thing is that everyone slags off Johns singing (which isnt that bad anyway) but forgets that Ian Brown is one of the worst live singers ever!
Agreed. I saw him live a few years ago and it was a waste of time. I ended up hating the rest of the crowd. It was pure hero worship. He could have farted into the mic and they would have cheered. His guitar was slung so low he could have been in GnR.
It's easy to see why John Squire has'nt enjoyed the same fanbase as Ian Brown - his voice is terrible. He's a great guitarist, but he can't sing for shit.

John Squire stuff with The Seahorses was good, his solo stuff is shite.
Ian Brown solo work is ok sometimes...
The moral of the story is the Stone Roses should get back together and show everyone what the world has been waiting for!!!
Never gonna happen tho
All that peace and love crap is bollocks when two mates from a band can't even have a conversation.

He never needed The Seahorses. I don´t know why he did that...
I live his guitar line... when iheard DRIVING SOUTH for the first time.... YEAH ! After that i understood Led Zeppelin.
Squire is a brilliant song writer. I never heard a guitar player playng solos like harmony. It´s great, it´s beautiful.
