  • Damn I could listen to Eric play that all night.

  • CLAPTON is GOD 1966 John Mayalls Bluesbreakers "Stepping Out" EC playing a 1959/60 Gibson Les Paul Standard through a JTM 45 Marshall Combo Juiced to the NINES!! Jimmy Page produced, and engineered that overdriven tone from that early time period where many producers said you would not be able to get that TONE on Tape.It was UNHEARD of Playing, and recorded tone which created a whole new allegiance of Les Paul players. Not enough room here to list, but Peter Green was one of them!

  • Clapton always delivers. Sometimes people forget just what a consummate professional he is. I think he is playing like an angel these days - better than ever!

  • @joosman123 100% agreed, there are so many younger talented guitarists these days, it's sometimes easy to overlook Clapton. It's like everybody just expects him to be a god. Which he is! LOL

  • Clapton did a good job, but fuck Derek is good.

  • I think since Eric heard Derek play for the first time he has pleaded with the Devil to let him trade his soul in for half of Derek's talent. Trucks is the greatest of all-time for me. Better than Dickey. Better than Warren. Better than BB. Better than Jimi. And, yes, better than (although only technically, not necessarily for the ABB) Duane.

  • But not as good as Jack Pearson who also played with the ABB until ear problems.

Check him out on Youtube, he blows Dickey away, and Derek for that matter

  • @StSimonMartyr I think Jimmy Herring is "better" then Jack Pearson. I mean, realistically, there is no such thing as a "better guitarist". Just one that is more appealing to the ear. And please, dont EVER put Dickie down. He is a fantastic guitarist. He CREATED his own style. Not saying others copied. What I mean to say, he is a pioneer in his own right. So is Derek.

  • @joshua9312 good to see someone post who understands

    VTFU!

  • @elevenAD Thanks. "VTFU"? Not very familiar with that acronym.

  • @joshua9312 just means i voted up your comment:)

  • @elevenAD Oh, thanks!

  • @theatlantisrise To actually sit here, and comment about Comparing World renowned artistic innovators, and such varied talent is Absurd. Time for people to grow up, and go back into history to see where Dereks inspiration came from.In time you will learn the true meaning to Artistic Expression, and that not One is Better then the other. You have a lot to learn on this subject. Like Yngvwie, is better then Vai, Children Play that game. Grow Up already, and get your facts in order'

  • eric doesn't get it. well, he does his rote thing, and not harm.

  • looks like clapton ran outta picks! drops it, checks his pocket (none there) then grabs it off the ground after the solo!! haha

  • Still missing Duane after all these years.Mountain jam guitar parts were most beautiful music I ever listen to..

  • Comment removed

  • All the stupid fucks shouting are proof that most of the listeners don't care about music.

  • Wonder why he's going finger style.

  • Almost........... the bit about the idea of merging the two bands back when. The idea came from within the Dominoes, tho - Whitlock, maybe? Eric, himself? Duane turned it down, tho, saying the Brothers had things to do.........

  • Of course I meant DUANE sorry didn't cath it.

  • Dickie is a hard ass southern r.n. an has his own ideas on who should front the band guess who. To bad he was a side man in 68 and would always be one. A fact he could not deal with when aire apparent Derek Trucks showed up with the heart and soul of Dianes solos.

  • @abbgt Absolutely! That is why Clapton often produces mediocre albums! He needs players like Derek Trucks and Duane Allman to push him and make him play outside his comfort zone. As for the guy who said there can be no ABB without Dickey Betts, if DB wasn't si hard to work with he'd probably still be in the band. (Listen to the comments Gregg makes on the Beacon Theater DVD). But I think that Warren and Derek are more than capable of keeping the band alive w/out making it a tribute band.

  • Clapton appears to drop his pick around 1:06ish

  • all of us in and around asheville north carolina are so proud of warren haynes, hometown by does good. he does a Christmas Jam here every year and it just flat kicks ass. it goes almost all night and you never know who's gonna hit the stage.

i must say this and i do stick by it-NO DICKIE BETTS, NO ALLMAN BROTHERS.

by the way, clapton's as flawless as ever.

  • To bad Clapton or Haynes didn't play slide and show Dereck how to play w/out being so damn noisy!

  • @kc12112 or show him how to play less notes in every solo..

  • Wish clapton was louder on this recording so cool to see them together.

  • What's cool about Eric's solo is that he's playing it outside his normal "Eric" box, not using his "standard" licks, etc. It's amazing how Eric sounds like he's been in the band for years, fits right in and compliments their sound. If I'm not mistaken, The Brothers once thought of asking him to join the band after Duane's passing. They could have never replaced Duane, of course. Duane Allman will go down in history as the greatest slide player in my book. God rest his soul...

  • @robertdeltajohnson Agreed Duane is forever the greatest. Warren and Derek both are his students and him their idol and they do a good job of replacing Duane.

Another thing thats cool about Eric's solo is that he is finger picking it. Of course he can finger pick, its just that I never knew him to do it on an electric solo. Nice Allman band touch.

  • @robertdeltajohnson I have to disagree. Clapton is playing his same old minor pentatonic patterns, and it doesn't sound right in this context. Duane's solo was in mixolydian, and it sounds much more appropriate to me than Clapton's blues licks. Derek plays in mixolydian in this example and it just fits better with the chord progression IMO.

  • Butch Trucks is Derek's uncle not father

  • Bookem Dan O for you next gig...Mr Haynes, Derick and Eric.

  • Look's like a proud papa on the drum kit watching his kid hold his own with one of the greats.

  • @McQ109 not only that but clapton looked pretty impressed too!

  • It's so cool how Clapton is just enjoying the ride. If you look at him, he looks just like he did in those photos from the 60's and 70's...just kinda out there

  • This will sound scracrelidge but I do hear some Derek style in Eric's solo. It may very well be the lack of a pick, but either way it's cool to see EC breakout a different kind of solo. Normally you hear Derek's influence on young guys, not the legends!

  • @abbgt I see what you mean, 'specially in the beginning of Eric's solo

  • @abbgt but don't forget that DT is drawing from Duane Allman, EC has played alongside DA & has to follow the feel of the band - shows the importance of having a quality lead guitarist alongside EC to get him working harder!

  • where's dicky betts?

  • seriously? he hasn't been in the ABB for 10 years

  • You can feel Duane's spirit

  • My husband said if he could've seen The Allman Bros and Eric Clapton together...God could take him cause he'd died and gone to heaven...lol.

  • @denapickney031764 Your Husband knows Damn well that Duane, and Eric go way back>> RIP All of the Souths Greatest musicians

  • @denapickney031764

Your husband has got it right.

  • Slow Hand dropping the pick or not, point is he's playing Derek style. Still learning.

    :D

I'd give this a five but for the so-so audio.

  • Legends on stage together. Wish I couldve been there. Nadine

  • What a beutiful sound! It would be a wonderful thing if Clapton joined the Allmans for good!

  • he did drop his pick...at the end of his solo he picks it up off the groud

  • what if dewayne had been there , wow,

  • He didn't drop it .. he palms it, then drops it in his pocket at 1:42 cause the finger tone is workin

  • Giants on stage together, a mind-blowing power house!

  • I take my hat off to Eric ... first of all he looks so damn cool here and he seeks out opportunities to get out of his comfort zone and then he delivers ...

  • Go Eric ! On the evidence of this I'd be happy for Eric to ditch the pick and use his fingers ... he sounds and looks magnificent . Makes one proud to be English !

  • eat your heart out, Mark Knopfler! ;-)

  • @impala327

LOL Mark is an amazing player as well but he's kinda more restrained than these guys

  • Eric dropped hi pick! Still pretty amazing, even finger picking.
