This car seems rare as hell in my area...and I'm actually in one of the '14 green cars state'. Prii are everywhere around me and I can easily get one for cheap, but I have to go at least 50 miles to find a decent Insight for sale.
This probably shouldn't be surprising as the video itself notes that the Prius is the best selling hybrid around, but damn, even the Civic Hybrid is easier to find.
At the 31 second mark it says "181 ft. lbs. of torque." If this car had that much torque, it would HAUL ASS. It only has 123 ft. lbs. of torque between both motors. In the city you can expect high 30 mpg's if you don't put your foot into it too much. If you drive 55-60 MPH on the highway, you can expect very high 40's or low 50 MPG's once the car is well broken in. You can also save close to $10,000 on one of these over a nicely-equipped Prius.
@franzfume theres more modern diesel technology than petrol. plus in europe where we actually have emission laws they produce the same emmissions as a petrol car.
blondemax. Could you tell me where I could get a cheap diesel car? I am not being smart alec, I am serious. The only one I know about is the VW TDI and it is far from cheap.
I guess I didn't fully appreciate most people are American.
In the UK you can get most cars in a diesel format.
Cheap Smart diesels, Toyota Yaris + Aygo diesels (the Aygo is probaly illegal in Americ as the petrol version gets about 50MPG and the diesel gets 80MPG
Ford Fiestas are avilible in Diesel.
In the UK Diesel is more expensive to by that petrol (ie at the pump!) so you generally have to drive >12,000 miles a year to save money in the long run
@blondemax Your missing something very important though, American gallons and imperial gallons are different! A US gallon is 3.78 Litres whereas an imperial gallon is 4.54, that's why this review says the Insight is rated at 43 mpg highway whereas in the UK they are rated at 67mpg highway.
The insight costs £16,620 and has 67mpg, the focus costs £16,600 and has 57mpg but costs 5-7p a litre more to fuel, I think the extra £20 for the Insight will be paid back well within a year of ownership...
Cheap diesel is only good for your people who live out in the sticks. For us people who sit in stop and go traffic 80-90% of the time, we need a hybrid to get the 40-50+ MPG.
I like the look of the '10 Prius...but if I had to chose either car right now, I'd take the Insight...seems it would be more fun to drive. Either way, both cars are good for the environment; can't argue with that.
I got one 2010EX and is a lot of fun...
Only that if you turn off the eco system, it does explode but also drinks it...

In the UK for example a brand new ford focus 1.6 TDCi is £16,600 sterling. it has a combined fuel consumption cycle of 57MPG
the Honda Inshite (equivilent in size, 5 door) is £20,000
You could NEVER make that vehicle pay for itself in the UK.

Thanks, I too was not thinking this was a world wide forum.

my skoda roomster does 50 mpg easy, and usually get me to work at 55+ mpg! with a 1.4 diesel. in Norway the diesel is slightly cheaper than petrol :D

Diesels are nice if you do a lot of highway driving... trust me, I know. Hybrids are good for both.

those analogue tach is stupid and does not flow with that other stuff.
