well done guys...protect those bewties....from the fire in roleystone alot of Black cockys have had to relocate....im lucky to have seen them fly around my house, sad that they had to move house but I ain't complaining :)
Its appalling the way that WA country is raped by the turds in government departments. Now DEC and previously Conservation and Land mangement, it is full of arseholes that do nothing but rape the forests of WA.
How can we in Australia criticize the loss of forestys in other countries? Colin Barnett, please do something about our wildlife!!!!!
You guys are doing a great job, thank you for such an informative video. We have Red tail Black Cockatoos here in Wundowie, I was unaware that they were on the soon to be endangered list, Keep up the good work.

I think this is so awesome what you guys are doing. Such beautiful birds, only time i've been fortunate enough to see a set of them is during one of my frequent visits to the Sandiego zoo in California
we have a pair of these come to our dam regularly, I don't yet know if they mate for life or not. We are happy they come to us and we would like to put some food out for them so they have a safe place to come. What do you think?
to dave and debie i have a white tailled black cockatoo and am not sure if it is a baudinii or carnabii can you help me identify this bird?? my username is (MrEclectus1966) please feel free to contat me please.
Thank you for posting this video. Here in Indiana, I knew nothing about these amazing, beautiful cockatoos nor about the logging in Australia. Hopefully many people will see this video and the wooded area you were discussing can be saved.
omg. i saw a bird shop selling a pair of black cockatoos in my country! im in singapore! so i was listening to u, and u said its unique to west aust.. n threatened species! but theres a pair here! wat do i do?!
@CityParrots Isn't ownership of such parrots legal in most countries provided they are bred and not wild? It's capturing wild ones and exporting them across country borders that's illegal. At least that's my understanding of the matter.
good work guys! i wish i could hope, only the other day i was talking about helping out at a sanctuary/ making one for Black cockatoos and there sub species.
you certainly have a good point about the national parks! its so sad what is happening to these beautiful birds!
Pay my air-fare to WA, give me free board and food, and I'll be more than happy to play with your birds, clean out their avery's and cages, give them cuddles, preen them and love them, and argue with you about what is best for them.
This is an odd request but is there any way we could dl this to show to class mates and such? I'm asking because I don't know how legal that would be or if it would be appriciated.
Thanks for your time.
And...does anyone know how many stamps it takes to get something to Australia from the US?
As mentioned previously by another individual, would sending a postcard to support Black Cockatoo conservation still be relevant? Can you please update us on the efforts toward Black Cockatoo conservation?
Black Cockatoos are one of my favorite birds, I live on the central coast in NSW and I haven't seen any wild red tailed black cockatoos in 2 years, but I still see the Yellow tails from time to time.
It's a real shame whats happening to them, I recently received information from the national parks and wildlife of NSW and Red tailed black cockatoos are listed as Vulnerable in NSW which is the halfway point towards extinction and its all because of Habitat destruction.
This posting is a little over a year old. Would sending a postcard still be helpful? Those birds are wonderful and I hope the Pattersons can meet some goals in aiding their preservation. I have a friend in Victoria who would hold his mobile phone out to the trees for me to hear the sulfur crested cockatoos cawing - I didn't believe they were so plentiful, or common, as robins are here in the states. Anyway, you're lucky to have them, especially the black cockatoos.
The Male Red Tailed Black Cockatoo tend to be over all darker and have a larger crest , while the female tend to be more colorful and have a smaller crest . They tend to be found in NSW . And it was said that the Black Cockatoo tend to be more calmer compare to their White Cousin
I have never had the luxury of seeing a white tail one. I own quite a few parrots and adore them and show then the videos and they love to watch them. Thank you for educating us and teaching others their plight. xxoo
Fantastic video.Thank-you for highlighting this huge problem. Its a shame it can't reach more people out there. You are a credit to Australia.I am in Australia and have not even heard of the plight of Helms block.I will be sending off a letter. All Governments are corrupt and a bloody greedy lot.The all mighty dollar. The human race,THE BIGGEST PEST OF ALL.
There are actually several species of black cockatoos! The yellow-tailed, red-tailed, and the (majestic) palm cockatoo, just to name a few. They are all gorgeous, intelligent, highly personable birds, nothing short of their lighter-colored brothers!
Here in the west we don't have yellow tail black cockatoos. We have a mutation of the white tail black cockatoo that has yellow. yellow tails are only found in the eastern states.
Red tails are my personal favourite.
We don't get the palm cockatoo either, but it would be nice :))))
same thing's happening here, there, and everywhere. here we've lost the griz, wolf, and now we're losing the reptiles, amphibians, and many sensitive birds and mammals to roads, burning, stupidity, and complete misuse of the land. we must save whatever we can whenever and i appreciate what you and many like you are doing. thanks
OMG...they are such pretty birds. But, i have a question...why cant you make fake nesting sites (out of maybe a similar material) and then hang them from another tree. and about the food, why cant you just put food out for them so they can forage for it?
omg i have a female red tailed black cockatoo she is sooooo sweet and i love birds and i really love working with her she is really tame she is three. i would really love to help by breeding them can you help?
Another question: What are your feelings about allowing some of these rare black cockatoos to be bred in captivity for preservation of the species? Or is that already done in Australia? I was thinking that Moluccans, Umbrella cockatoos and many of the sulfur-crested varieties are bred like crazy in the U.S. and elsewhere, and now look how many there are. I know it isn't the same as the wild, but if their numbers get worse in the wild, it's better than extinction??
just my 'too sense, but if these birds are bred and available then less poaching will occur, especially when ecotourism efforts are combined. Although having said this, education on the species and evaluating potential keepers is just as important so that shelters are not over-run with these beautiful creatures...
You may already know this, but just in the last issue of Bird Talk magazine (U.S. publication) it was announced that there is now going to be a vaccination available for PBFD. This is fantastic news! Of course, vaccinating chicks in the wild would be a tough job, but maybe not impossible?
This was a good movie! I did not know about these guys! God bless you and your wife! You are kind people! I truly wish that I could give you and your wife money to help the birds!
absolutly beautiful! i love what yous do, its people like yourselves that make a differnce to birds. yous deserve to be reconised for your dedicated contribution to these wonderful mined birds... great birds with great attitude!!!
they are absolutely beautiful birds, i love seeing cockatoos. I hope they are able to conserve and regenerate the black cockatoo species, they are sweet animals.
Thank you dear Pattersons for your wonderful work. I have an umbrella cockatoo and therefore can a;ppreciate all your efforts to save these very special guys.
This video shows some of the best that YouTube can be!! I hope that it will stimulate others to protect these incredible, beautiful gentle birds, some of which are now critically endangered. The work that the Pattersons do is difficult and never ends, but is obviously work of great compassion. We need to heed their words--and their actions!
Such beautiful and magnificant birds. The black cockatoo's are my fave of this species. Such wonderful people these are for all thier love and caring.
