That makes perfect sense. I own a long as well as a smooth hair and their characteristics are just as you described. I am a bowhunter and have had several occaisions over the years when a dog like this would be a savior. No one in my area (Alabama) uses dogs for tracking. Not sure why. I plan to start training mine soon. Meanwhile,I will be looking for a wire hair and watching your videos for training tips. Thanks
@jmh769 You can use a long or smooth hair dachshund too. There are many people who use them. However, the wire-haired are the hunters of the breed. They have more endurance and are more functional. Ours, including the puppy you see on the video, are of European bloodlines and have taller legs for better ground clearance. Their coat can handle all weather conditions and terrains.
Smooth's legs are too short & they get cold in the winter, while longs collect thorns, burdox and snow.
And one Peta hippie found your film!!! I don't hunt but mine keeps finding pheasants and deer its's amazing how good and fun they are!

Is there a reason you use wire haired instead of long or short haired?
