Technically this isn't the Chipmunks, this was Ross Bagdasarians first big hit using the the same technique he used later for the chipmunks. It wasn't until much later that he redid this record with the Chipmunks.

The squeeky voice in this recording was suppose to represent the witch doctor. But since it was such a big hit, Ross used it again for the Chipmunks.
