not sure how i feel about some of the guitar playing on some of the songs but this is pretty awesome. the vocals keep me into it and the straight foreword metal is a nice change of pace for mike IMO.

The song is fantastic, the vocals are some of the best I've ever heard. But, please, Mesa Boogie sucks badly. Where's the presence on the guitars? I could have gotten a better tone for them, haha.
I LOVE the central allegory of this composition, in which the two fundamental abstract ideas find themselves juxtaposed together. The artist finds himself in a situation revolving around the dichotomous notion of both being psychotic, yet simultaneously possessing his sanity. I believe the song might have something to with Sigmund Freud's theory of psychoanalysis. "Psycho" represents the id, while "sane" represents the superego. The resulting conflict leads the protagonist to be "psychosane."

Mike did A7X a favor by filling in. Then when returning to DT he wanted them to take a break after 20 years constant recording and touring. They wanted to continue so Mike left. Then he asked to join A7X, they said no, IDK why. So he started looking for a new project to start, and ended up with this.
HE WANTED A BREAK FROM THE TIRING LIFE OF WRITING AND PLAYING PROG METAL ALL THE TIME!
It's a change of pace and something new. And it's pretty awesome so stop hatin'.

I saw A7X live a few months back and at that time they still weren't sure if they'd stick with Arin. I'm not sure if they've made up their minds yet.

It's not exactly a secret anymore that Mike wanted a 5-year break so they could come back and be even more popular. (And without a doubt to tour with other bands) This would be perfectly in line with his obsession to mimic what the bands that he idolizes have done; only they probably haven't /preplanned/ their comebacks.

I LOVE Dream Theater but Mike Portnoy is my biggest ever influence on drumming! This band which most DT fans hate i EFFING LOVE. Always loved metal/hard rock music and glad Portnoy has become a full fledged member!
@metalmike83 Agreed, as I've stated on a previous song of theirs, the mix isn't really working and I trust they'll have a better overall sound on the final releas. Read on their facebook page that the original 4 songs from the EP will be remixed and remastered. So I'll be waiting.
Gotta admit, after dropping my thoughts about what this was gonna be like, this is actually pretty good.
My only problem with it is the small part where Mike sings on his own. It just doesn't really sound good, and that is coming from a fan of Mike's vocals.

@rockynets Yeah, it's about as similar as many other heavy metal tunes with a badass riff and guitar squeals, apart from that, no, not really. It has much much more drive, the sound is entirely different and is altogether of a different genre in music. First time I ever heard anyone mention it. It shares much more similarities, especially lyrics wise, with the DT songs that Portnoy wrote.
in my opinion the only thing really capturing your ears is the drumming. i think russell is not really at his best here, the guitars are...not worth remembering but still mike does a great job into creating the right drumming style for this type of sound
this seems more like portnoy's style, real heavy fuckin metal without the over the top instrumentals. He at least needed a break from it, this stuff sounds awesome!
I went "Psychosane" and quit Dream Theater, despite not really wanting to. I told the guys "Believe Me," everything would be OK if I came back, but they refused. I then "Hit The Wall" when I heard they got Mike Mangini as my replacement. Now I've collapsed "Down To The Floor," and am crying in a fetal position. I want to rejoin DT, but no one wants me to. I guess "The Mob Rules" in these sick times.
Cont. Also, why does all music have to be ground breaking? Everything, even prog stuff, has a format that it works under. They decided to start a groove metal band and there is a working formula there. What is wrong with mediocrity? What is wrong with a band just wanting to write some tunes that yeah are a little generic and stick to a common format? @metalmike83 Agreed, as I've stated on a previous song of theirs, the mix isn't really working and I trust they'll have a better overall sound on the final releas. Read on their facebook page that the original 4 songs from the EP will be remixed and remastered. So I'll be waiting.

Gotta admit, after dropping my thoughts about what this was gonna be like, this is actually pretty good.
My only problem with it is the small part where Mike sings on his own. It just doesn't really sound good, and that is coming from a fan of Mike's vocals.
Still, a pretty good song! Looking forward to their album.

@rockynets Yeah, it's about as similar as many other heavy metal tunes with a badass riff and guitar squeals, apart from that, no, not really. It has much much more drive, the sound is entirely different and is altogether of a different genre in music. First time I ever heard anyone mention it. It shares much more similarities, especially lyrics wise, with the DT songs that Portnoy wrote.

in my opinion the only thing really capturing your ears is the drumming. i think russell is not really at his best here, the guitars are...not worth remembering but still mike does a great job into creating the right drumming style for this type of sound

I went "Psychosane" and quit Dream Theater, despite not really wanting to. I told the guys "Believe Me," everything would be OK if I came back, but they refused. I then "Hit The Wall" when I heard they got Mike Mangini as my replacement. Now I've collapsed "Down To The Floor," and am crying in a fetal position. I want to rejoin DT, but no one wants me to. I guess "The Mob Rules" in these sick times.

Cont. Also, why does all music have to be ground breaking? Everything, even prog stuff, has a format that it works under. They decided to start a groove metal band and there is a working formula there. What is wrong with mediocrity? What is wrong with a band just wanting to write some tunes that yeah are a little generic and stick to a common format? I think the arguments here are that the dream theater die hards are all saying this is shit because it's not like dream theater. They see Mike Portnoy is in the band and think "oh I liked DT so I must like his band that are going to be in the exact same vein.....WHAT THE FUCK HE HAS DONE SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!!BASTARD!". @TheLegatoMan i heard he didn't exactly grow tired, he just expected to be in avenged sevenfold permanently, or at least for an extended period of time. when he told DT that he wanted back in, because avenged sevenfold replaced him, the band had already replaced him with mike mangini. i'm no expert, that's just what i heard.

@Stangeee actually, portnoy wanted to put the band on hiatus, because he felt that he was less than inspired to write for the band. when he mentioned that, the band disagreed, so he dropped out and began looking for a new drummer. after they settled on mangini, portnoy wanted back in, but they told him that they already found a new drummer. something like that xD
