that much low stances are not realistic. I'm Jacks useless youtube comment like the other comments... Keep training bros. Dedication makes you something not useless youtube comments. Give up being politic minded in those issues. Just do it.
That was no defence for the high kick. If you have somebody who has a good hard kick then you will never catch it that way. It will straight break your jaw. If you wanna defend those kicks. Check out Muay Thai how they defend it. Peace.
@minasz He misses the forward movement. That is why it seems unrealistic.Otherwise it is good.If he was moving to the attacker it would be difficult to punch or do something cause he would loose balance. Also moving forward it is dangerous for the knee of the attacker.
@dlvt79 Im talking about the way he catches (blocks) the high kick. That way of blocking (wing chun way) is dangerous. Again if the person has a good hard kick you will never catch it...It will break your face.
@minasz It is not easy to explain if u not feel it.Truth is that most people BLOCK the kick.So it will probably happen what u said.It is wrong technik but u cant see it.The wright way is to absorb the kick (no blocking)and that is truly efficient.Problem is that in tube they dont look different in eyes.U could ckeck it with someone who has this ability if u kick him quite hard and fast, cause most amateurs kicks can be stopped by blocking even is wrong.
@minasz Obviously u havent find anyone good in WC.I could tell u the same thing but is a stupid conversation.Anyway nice to speak with u.Training is everything dependless the style.I will just say...be openminded. If a mt fighter can hit relaxed and instantly powerfull and explosive why a wc fighter cant?It is a matter of wright training..Peace
@minasz And just for the records the usuall good reaction is hit forward to the knee or nuts while we got hit by a high kick and not give so importance to the enemys kick.Try it and u see.Not good for sparring but good for fighting.
@dlvt79 A good reaction is not so easy as you think. But ok thats not the point im making. Im talking abot the BLOCK in THIS video. The block in this video is not good. If you catch the high kick that way its gonna be dangerous and it will smash your face.
Yep. Besides, a viet vo dao practitionner would have used his other leg to kick to guy in the head, instead of just waiting, like this "poor" white dressed kid is in all these video : he's always waiting to be kicked, instead of at least protecting himself...
Jumping to kick from the standing leg while your failed kick is being held would not work. When a kick is caught like this it is rolled into a hip lock, so if he tried to jump kick he would just twist over onto his own face.
Plus the guy holding the leg would feel it and do something to counter.
Or, if the kicker was able to do a jump counter kick, most likely a Flying Knee, the elbow strike becomes a block against the this. also, in a WT drill any of the moves can stand alone, here the catch, the elbow as a wall to the side, or the standing leg kick are all functional alone, they are just trained together for difficulty.
These kick defenses are difficult to film in a realistic manner because you have to respect the kicker. So you hold him up and he doesn't do something crazy after.
@DrTzeus wingchun energy is moving forward allways, if a high kick is caught in this manner its over, even van dame antics will not help, you may be allowed to continue your acrobatics on your way back across the room from whence you came, but you won,t hit anything as you will most likely be airborne and horizontal

@dlvt79 To absorb the kick? Fight a good Muay Thai fighter and try to not block but to absorb the kick. You ll see what will happen.

The elbow and the knee were not needed. Not particularly economical for a wing chun man.
