if the wood is not the same as their father's guitar, why are the prices still set at the same levels? if one wood resonates a larger sound and is harder to come by, why is it the same as a popular wood that is found in Pennsylvania?
@brum3fan A.SWDGT List Price $1799.00. They are still cheaper then the top of the line D-16, HD 16's. Cheaper then the D-18, D-28,and D-35. The D Cherry is around the same price range of the HD-16 line. That is a pretty good deal for a great sounding, and great looking and smelling guitar.
I would buy an American made cigar box with a rubber band around it before I would spend my hard earned cash on the finest, Chinese made, "real" wood guitar.People that want things "cheap" and "now" are the reason our manufacturing is gone!
C.F. Martin IV is the best. What a legacy to uphold. The quality is STILL outstanding. They are also exploring HPL, while not the same, is a decent alternative. Martin's are, in my opinion, the finest guitars in the world. I feel lucky to own my D-18. I am also buying a D-28 or a 000-17 (vintage) soon. I can't even imagine myself buying any other acoustic guitar.
Martins are good guitars, it's just that the Chinese have caught up and are cheaper with all REAL wood cheaper than Marting and Taylor sell laminate guitars...
Martins are nice, but i think they're price is starting to exceed their quality. Breedloves are pretty sweet and so are blueridges, especially for their prices.
I apprenticed with a violin maker about 15 years ago. I did not pursue the trade as the master I was working for pointed out, good wood makes good instruments, and good wood is mostly gone. I have not considered buying a Martin in the past, but I will consider buying an eco friendly guitar. Consumers have the power to make the changes with each dollar we spend. Do you want to buy a chinese guitar made by people living in a situation close to slavery with wood from clear cuts?
Nice story!
