  • As much as I like this sound, I just couldn't see it becoming as big as it did with Bruce. Iron maiden needed Bruce to become huge.

  • 2:07 - Dave Murray has a third hand! On his shoulder =O

...So THAT'S his guitar secret! x]

  • Does anyone know the name of Iron Maidens bootleg demos from the 70s? i'd love to get this song and others. Also i doubt it but is there any recordings of the original lead singer and the second?

  • The Douchebag below uses slipknot in his username, nuff said. Also Mr.slipknotdouichebag, if you insist on using the english laguage learn the proper usage of there and their.

  • damn right 0 dislikes!

  • @TheFrancheesee

Because their corporate sellout hot topic fags.

  • @slipknotcrazy100 FUCK YOU!

  • @slipknotcrazy100 Even if thats true what the hell does that make slipknot .... they are a living oxymoron...

  • @favsncrap this isn't his accoount so don't judge by the username jackass but he's right they are and so is slipknot.

  • @slipknotcrazy100 you don't know shit about maiden so shut the hell up

  • @VadmyraIL are you mad? lmfao

  • why iron maiden dont have videos i mean official music videos

  • Fantastic Song :D \m/

  • chida rola..........

  • This song should have been on the first album but it got pulled and wound up as a b-side on Running Free. How do I know? I used to own the original songbook for the first album and this song was included. No.. even better the front cover stated that the book contained the singles 'Burning Ambition' and 'Sanctuary'. I guess the record company never kept the book company up to date!

  • Paul Di´anno is a great vocal, but Bruce Dickinson is better.

The only bad vocal that the group Iron Maiden was Blaze Bayley... Blaze Bayley is a bad vocal and he singers bad!!!!!

  • @MXYZPTLK1000

    blaze was FANTASTIC!!!

  • @MXYZPTLK1000 I agree with FreezingBlood666 Blaze was good, he couden't play any of Bruce's songs live without sounding horibile but that doesen't make Blaze a bad vocalist, it only makes Bruce an EXCELNT vocalist! Now don't tell me you didin't liked The Sign Of The Cross or The Clansman.

  • It's On The Running Free Single I Thought. (The Original One.) And It's In The Best Of The B'Sides Somewhere I'm Pretty Sure.

  • The very first song of I.M ? :-) or it was prodigal son ? (1978)

  • accally its off the running free ep which was in fact the first official release iron maiden ever made

  • @ureadmymind no its not.

  • @acadien

    it is on remastered version

  • @acadien ...soundhouse tapes am i right \mm/

  • @Born2BLoud no it's was on the b-side of Running free

  • @Born2BLoud B-side

  • @acadien It is on the Iron Maiden bonus disco of 1995.

  • @acadien its on the Single from the First album

  • @acadien Its a bonus track on my copy of the 1st album

  • @ureadmymind acadien is correct; it's not on their first album, however, it's not as rare as it used to be. It was the b-side to running free, but now can be found on "Best of the b-sides"

  • @ureadmymind No,Well Kinda. It Wasn't In The Original Release But Later Included In With 1995 Reissue Bonus Disc.

  • @ureadmymind This is the B-Side to the Running Free single from '80. I understand Steve Harris wrote this in the early '70's.

  • @ureadmymind The first album is

    Prowler

    Sanctuary

    Remember Tomorow

    Running Free

    Phantom of the Opera

    Transylvania

    Strange World

    Charlot The Harlot

    Iron Maiden

  • @BLITZKRIEGMANIAC the Sanctuary in this album after 98' the remastered version....

  • @ureadmymind not on the first cd edition, only on remastered with bonus tracks

  • @ureadmymind 1st single....

The 1st single is the Sanctuary from the debut album. This track on the B side.

  • @Shazeen82 Their First single was Running Free. But this was the B-side of that

  • @MegaFly95 Yes!

  • @ureadmymind It's the b-side on the "Running Free" single, released in 1980, before the first album. And it's the first song Harris ever composed, when he was only 16 years old.

  • @ureadmymind how dumb are you

  • @ureadmymind it's on the b side of running free

  • @ureadmymind it's on the b side of the running free singel

  • I love this song.

  • I'm not familiar with "Paul Day".... never heard of him.... and I dont claim to know everything...... but if that's not "the man".... Paul Motherfuckin shot-of-whiskey and game of snooker Dianno...... then I'm a monkey's uncle...... and I may damn well BE a fucking monkey's uncle.... but not because this aint Paul Dianno....... God Bless

  • que cancion tan buena me sube el animo

  • Very Wishbone Ash

  • This is paul day, not d'ianno... they sound quite alike though :)

  • @knasroll No actually, Paul Day didnt even sing in the band.

  • @lolz146 Whoops, I stand corrected

  • esto es un verdadero clasico maiden va a vivir para siiempre loqo!!! UP THE IRONS FROMA ARGENTINA!!!

  • When Metal has soul

  • i would kill to see the first tour or killers tour. or even better to have seen them back in the pub days before the first album came out. that shit would have been sweet!!!! paul-era maiden is truely classic shit!!!!

  • i totally agree. bruce is better w/ maiden in the long run. i dont think they would have got as big if paul had stayed. but on the other hand pauyl-era maiden is classic maiden and i would kill to see a reunion. its my #2 right after hendrix.lol

  • this is when paul wasnt fat bald and sang bad. i saw him a week ago.....not impressed in the least bit. i have much respect for the guy but age takes a toll on people

  • my favourite maiden track !!!!!

  • Paul was the man for those times.

He was essential. A part of Maiden's history.

  • @tildie1980

Is there any recordings of Paul Day or Dennis Wilcock?

  • @Jackiechan39

I doubt it, but I found Paul Day singing for another band after Iron Maiden.

    watch?v=9qJ13M4_IT8

  • @Jackiechan39

Search Gilbratar- you drive me crazy.

I doubt Dennis recorded with Iron Maiden.

  • @Jackiechan39

I am 99% sure there is not unless you can find a bootleg out there somewhere. Don't laugh either, it's amazing how many bootlegs were made back in Maidens early days.

  • esse som é otimo

  • My favorite Iron Maiden line-up.

When Paul left, Iron Maiden wasn't the same anymore. Not saying they suck or anything like that. Bruce is a great singer and there still awesome, it's just that it was just different.

  • I prefer Bruce, but I understand you. Paul-era Maiden was very different. Paul was a very important part of Maiden - his punk attitude gave an extra flavour to the band. I respect him for his work in the early years.

  • paul was freaking stupid, full of drugs and alchool, but a nice singer. :/

  • This song is perfect for playing to some people who dis Maiden when they really know very few of their songs. "Prodigal Son", "Reach out" and a load more tends to take people by surpise also.

  • Right On! Actually some of my friends that did not even like "metal" were so taken by the first two Iron Maiden albums that they became fans!

    Rock On Ortega24024!

  • this happened to me!

  • Now that is what I call the Iron Maiden line up!

  • All Maiden Rules. But ill always have a soft spot for the Di'Anno records 'cause I heard them first and fell in love. just my 2 cents.

  • Clive Burr rules too!!!

  • What a great sight - DAVE MURRAY with a DEAN! I love this song and it should be more well known.

    Luke

  • @SoulsOfStone this song make me happy everytime. this song show how rich is old maiden, i mean many style.. and Paul can sing!!! oh boy He is sexy. I'm glad last time when I see him he's not look like that time..Tide panths..becourse then I arested at RIPE...yes i'm woman

  • look all of you are partly right..but quit being cunts

paul was NWOBHM (new wave of british heavy metal) like venom, witchfynde, warrior, all that

it has like old punk meets hard rock...

when bruce got in maiden it became straight metal, insane solo's high pitch voice

its all a matter of what you like

but dianno's better ...cuz i like punk and hard rock

  • I know, i love Paul's songs, they're really punk and metal songs.

I like both genre's so it works out.

    BUT

I do love all the other Maiden songs, its like listening to two different bands.. but still one band! xD

I love Maiden, they have a song for every mood.

  • Thanks for posting! Never heard it before, it's great!

  • pauls a good singer just not for maiden

  • rubbish. he was their best.

  • You wish. Brucie was the best, but Di'Anno is really really good.

  • I agree.

  • I love Paul as singer. But he would've gone eventually anyway, he wanted to just keep the band like they were, but Steve had bigger ideas.

  • Up The Irons !!!

  • Funny coincidence, when I met Paul a couple of years ago I told him that "Bruce can never do "your" songs justice" and Paul responded "Well, I problably couldnt do his either!"

Hails to all Maiden-members, past and present :D

  • @Meemorex... I assume your referring to Paul Di'Anno, not Paul Day.

  • @Gerkinstock

    Ha ha ha.

  • First song Steve wrote by himeself. Best song ever.

  • "There's something burning inside me, that makes me want to be free, and when I get those feelings honey, you better keep away from me!"

A great chapter in Metal history! Di'anno was the best for those first 2 albums. Bruce doesn't do those songs justice but he's awesome for his time with the band. I will not say one is better than the other. Apples and oranges my friends.

  • I totaly agree

  • Me too!!!

    :P

  • Awesome IRON MAIDEN track!!!up the IRONS!!!!

  • Paul D'ianno kicks ass. I think he's a better singer than Bruce Dickinson.

  • isnt, but i like him before bruce his styl is better Paul Rocks

  • true dat

  • @electroviolence55

different, but i wouldn't say better!!

    I like them both!!

  • this isnt Di,anno

  • @lookatyourself99

Yeah it is. You seriously can't tell Pauls voice? There is no doubt this is him.

  • @lookatyourself99 Yes it is

  • Steve wrote songs for Smiler but they couldn't play them because they were very complicated for them. Some of his first songs must be Prowler,Transylvania and Invasion.

  • fuk yer every day i fild any old song

  • dude i still love maiden.. now they have like that more special metal feel and back then they had like that street metal to say it the best..

  • the irons rules the earth

  • If this is Steve's first song,he was really good from the first song

  • It isn't. He wrote other songs for bands he was in before starting Maiden.

  • sooo..this is not his first one,but one of them?

  • sweet

  • i have this vynil its a b side i think its on the running free record

  • this song is amazing, i got it on the tape version of the self titled album.

  • was this on the tape of IM? thats kool wonder 1 it wasent on the 98cd

  • B/SIDES of 80s single and ON BEST OF BEAST CD

  • i just got eddies archive yay, thanks though

  • man, i'm pretty happy right now because of this song :)

iwas searching it after i saw the early years and i heard it while they presented paul dianno...

    thanks bro!!

  • yeah is exelents musics

  • As far as I know this is Steve Harris' VERY FIRST song. He actually wrote it while playing with his pre-Maiden band "Smiler" but they would'n play it cause they thought ut was to complex to play.. heh.. ok? Anyway... Cool tune that describes Steves ambition to succeeed in the music business.. and he shure as hell did! Maiden forever! (Fan since 1980 when they warmp up for Kiss in Norway :-) My favourite album: Killers!

  • oh wow long time fan i only been fan like 2yrs lol, just out of curiosity if remember what was some of the songs on the setlist at that warmup for kiss show?

  • Sorry. Don't remember. I was only 11 years old hehe... But I remember they played Sanctuary :-)

Was on Kiss concert i Oslo, Norway 31 may 2008 too. Second time I saw Kiss and 28 years later! WOW !!! awesome!

  • its amazing how long they've been going.. and with the same quality.

  • Fantastic! Even after all these years!

  • Is that from soundhouse tapes (1978)?!

  • its from the cd the best of b sides and the only way to get this cd is to buy the limited ed box set extremly rare

  • no its not from the soundhouse tapes.this track is even more old...its a long story!

  • geiler song aus der frühphase noch vor dem ersten album diannos gesang hier ist klasse Up the Irons

  • Superb !

  • nice song the should`ve put this on the album

  • i think it sounds very happy, and doesnt look like maiden, but i like it and its fine that sometimes they write songs that belong to other styles, to change a bit and dont make it so boring

  • from what album is this song, some before "iron maiden"

  • It was released as the B side for the running free single

  • I love this song, it is one of the best songs ever!!

  • this really doesnt sound like maiden but its still amazing it like insanely happy.

iron maiden = best band of all time

  • that's a fuckin' awesome song, it makes me think of the Buzzcocks...songs like have you ever fallen in love or everybody's happy nowadays

  • @Lukeblueslover yeah, litle yes. punk influences indeed:)

  • Sounds Marioish lol:P
