  • '...and so forth'

  • I did exactly what lars with the whole drum thing

  • time for sum justice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:22 what is this song ???

  • @karoluss17 To Live is To Die :)

  • wow i wish i had metallica's mind!

  • @MsMusiclover58 To Live Is To Die

  • Whats the song at :48?

  • I saw them recently in october in new zealand and i wish i had have seen them back in the late 80's or 90's to compare it to todays era i think they were better back then then now

  • what bass was jason using. Was it a wal?

  • i saw this show, this tour twice. i've also seen the black tour in 91 and 92 in three different places. saw both load and reload tours.

the thing that amazes me, is whenever they do the more intimate things, like seen here, they ARE ALWAYS OUT OF TUNE. they have roadies and digital spectrum tuners, but they are always out of tune. it drives me crazy.

  • @loknloll How hard they hit there instruments im not suprised.

  • i miss jason...he was kickass

  • @jjc00ll Me Too! :D

  • In matters of performance, 89 was the best year of Metallica. 21 YEARS OF LIVE SHIT BINGE AND PURGE SEATLE

  • @marcussilvamgs you got that right..nothing could match the energy of 88/89...before they were really famous, were hungry, wanted to win fans over..

  • THEY SPELT KIRK HAMMETT WRONGGGGG

    They must all be PUNISHED

  • someones gonna kill me but wats the first song?

  • @PANTALLICA695 To live is to die

  • If you look at that lars never did lessons and still can drum like he drums now . then he is a pretty good drummer i mean he learned almost everything from himself and i think that alot of people forget that!

  • I love kirk hammett, he is the coolest man!!!

  • i like Lars

  • to live is to die is fucking beautiful. metallica totally influenced bands like opeth with the lovely acoustic contrasting with sheer heaviness

  • cool theyre playing to live is to die...i would love to see them play that live.

  • @enigmalinsanity fuck me too Live Is To Die is fucking masterpiece...R.I.P Clifford Lee burton

  • oof kirk hits some bad bad notes in to live is to die. ouch

  • @jkjl234

dont you mean james? his guitar came in before kirk's did

  • @theblackendone no i meant kirk. james doinks one note, but kirk hits like three or four wrong notes during the song.

  • @jkjl234 wait i thought he was just making harmony

  • @metallichika yeah he is supposed to be, but he hits the wrong notes a couple times.

  • 2:42 "Kirk hammet" ? KIRK HAMMETT

  • The Justice album is their best, in my opinion.

  • Justice is such an underrated album.

  • if it had better producing it wouldnt be underrated

  • @KHI74 wtf justice underrated ???? it's their best album, so shut the fuck up, slimbo !!!!

  • @DirtyLuvah Dumbasses ignore the album and say it sucks. Every1 is praising Master of Puppets when Justice is the best album. Thats what he meant by underrated. Its overshadowed by master.

  • @DirtyLuvah do you even know what underrated means? lol

  • They spelt Hammett wrong

Regardless, how To Live Is To Die sounded in this video gave me chills. I love it

  • jason had such awesome hair

  • Justice is such an amazing album, Metallica was, is and will be the best Metal band ever

  • hell yeah !!

  • in honor of cliff

  • i think its to live is to die

  • yep

  • what is the name of the first song they pla y in this interview?

  • to live is to die..... from and justice for all ,a tribute to Cliff Burton

  • gousebumps! it makes me wanna cry

  • metallica are the gods of metal. THEY HAVE METAL IN THEIR NAME, that should prove they're gods

  • the 4 horsemen 4ever!

  • He is or i should say was a hard hitter at Drums but never tech at all, but fit the music.

  • listen to ...and justice, that was some of the most technical drumming in metal at that time, the whole band hit its peak

  • It sounds completely different from studio version.

  • wat song r they playing in the intro??

  • To live is to die interlude.

  • Chills....

  • one of my favourite melodies period...

  • this is the other version of the master of puppets in live shit isn't it??

  • Nope.

  • Dude, South of Heaven sucked compared to Justice. The only song off that album worth listening to is Mandatory suicide and Dead Skin Mask

  • Chill dude, I'm sort of new to slayer. You dont have to such a fuckin douchebag about it. And are you serious about the solos? listen to Shortest Straw, Dyers Eve, Blackened. Those are the best solos Kirk ever wrote. Kerry and Jeff are great yes but as far as solos go i like Kirks taste more. King and Hanneman tend to get off key very often. Its sort of shaped the slayer sound and thats why a lot of people like them. But Kirk's solos feature strange phrasing, odd time signatures and weird scales

  • and thats what i like in my solos! :)

  • Yeah man i know all about Chuck, shame hes gone :( Leprosy is by far my favorite Death album.

  • slayer and all that shit suckk, metallica are the gods.

  • maaaaaaaaaaan, how i love metallica......

  • so so true!

    To Live Is To Die!

    who else than cliff!

    R.I.P.!

  • Lars makes funny faces when he drums XD

  • to live is to die...on concert...beautiful...it is realy sad when james do the solo...:,-(

  • i listened to this last night and i nearly cried

  • there honouring cliff with that beginning to live is to die song, that song on and justice for all is dedicated to him

  • almost

  • love that live it rock TO LIVE IS TO DIE.....

  • to live is to die...

  • i love that song

  • This is pure awesomeness! They just sat down and jammed.

  • Thats actually a song...

  • i know i was actually talking 'bout the vid, not the damn song.

  • coz thats not the real live recording, its being played and being filmed!

  • Why would they play a pre recorded track and pretend to play it?? Of course its live dude... Have you ever seen metallica do a playback '-.-?

  • there badass

  • isnt making music that reaches a more massive audience the goal for any band...I mean if you play in a band and don't really aspire to make music that echoes through eternity then cool more power to you...personally i write the best music i possibly can not to seelout but to be heard...Metallica's Black Album will echo forever..I just wish everybody heard their'81-88' albums purely the best ever

  • metallica rocks !!! best band ever any genre.

  • what song is this

  • To Live is to Die ( Justice )

  • They are the Greatest band. that's it

  • I think metalica is now more than just the greatest metal band, but the greatest band. Individually no member is the best but collectivly they're #1(including burton they peaked)

  • metallica is one of my favorite bands of all time, i love these guys, the only thing that bothers me a little is that some of kirk's solos sound the same, but how can you blame him, he had to made like more than 50 different solos for all there songs

  • is it true this year and justice for all sold over 5 million copies???!!!

  • justice has sold over 8 million copies.

  • this rules

  • everyday, i wake up thinking about the fact that i missed out on the And Justice .. tour. I would give about .... a LOT, to turn back time.

  • dude, right there with you

  • That was the 1st time i swe Metallica was the Justice tour. I still remember it like it was yesterday--the xploosins when they played one-the statue crumbling-almost killed james, that was the best concert ive ever seen! Thats when they were still heavy--back when Metallica just ruled !!

  • what I would give to see them on the ...And Justice For All tour.

  • omg i wanna hear the clean guitar part from to live is to die and ulrich didn't stop talking shit :D ...

  • ulrich: blablabla

  • i think metallica has proven themselves a lot, they are free to do what they want, cus everybody knows what they can do, everyone knows that those guys are like the best heavy metal band ever you know.. i like those guys a lot, i love their music

  • metallica rulz!!!!!

  • and so do you..

what are u a commedian? get out of here..

  • who gives a damn whether u liked him or not, shut the hell up then fag

  • be specific: who sucks cock? who the fuck is 'u'? go develop quadroplegia and rot for life.

  • defenatly cliff was the best but i enjoy jason's playing too!

  • metallica only got famous because they constantly evolved and played music for the love of it. and if you wanna call them sellouts then go ahead. it just shows your spite for musicians that go big.

  • good for you. finally someone who agrees with me.

  • Hetfield4God... True, even when they made the coolest video for "one" all the losers said that they where sellouts.

  • True. Metallica has always went its own way... No metalheads should ever decide what Metallica should write or do...

  • sooo true.

Because THEN they would be sellouts, not for doing whatever they want, like many people think...

  • Yeah that's right Lars rulz so does Metallica!!! Helfield for president!!! WoooHooo!!!

  • why would it say 1989??? the interview and footage was 89,but there is the enter sandman dude in the interview lol,wow thats bad editing bro

  • I still don't have an opinion of Trujillo but if Metallica likes him, he must be good. Besides Metallica said he was the only one who didn't seem to struggle with the bass. And i think Jason Newsted is a good bass player. He was just misunderstood by the other guys. How his little side project Echobrain would affect a monster like Metallica? I don't think it would be possible. On the other hand maybe it was better that he left the band.....

  • Newsted leaving Metallica is the smartest thing he could have done. He served his time in that band, and they treated him like crap the entire time. He made a name for himself, and now he's set for life.

  • You´re right there.

Although he liked playing in Metallica, and also wanted to continue with them, he sticked to his principles and left Metallica for not enjoying enough creative freedom. Tough decision, he got all my respect him for that. Miss him though...

  • yeah man hes so rad playing rock star super nova...lmao...seriously what has he done? Released a few subpar Echobrain albums broke up, playing for a dead band Voivod, who has stated their last album wil be the last anyways...

  • and playing on American I...i mean rock star supernova (is their really a diff?) Television show. This is what he left for. GG Jason lol, Rob kicks his ass technically anyways.

  • Echobrain sucks, and that rock star super nova is stupid, but I didn't bring those things up, because it had nothing to do with my point. My point was that he made a good decision leaving Metallica, not in working with those projects. Joining Voivod was a good decision, even though the album wasn't fantastic.

  • I think Jason is a good bassist. I know Cliff can't be replaced but you have to admit that Jason did very well. I like the way he played Cliff's part.

  • 00:13... I thought it was a guitar, "Dude, that´s a bass!", like Hetfield said at first time hearing Burton´s bass.

  • ooh awkward laugh at 2:46

  • yes but in that time metallica won`t let jason expres his "talent".

it cant be compare whith cliff but i think that jason was afeter cliff a good member...

i repet on the last album jason brought attitud and power.

dude i`m agree that cliff had no comparation , but with afetr he pass away jason was a good bassmen. and he trie to play as weel as hi could and i dont think that it was bad..

  • I know what you're saying regarding Metallica blocking Jason from co-writing a lot, or whatever, but when he plays the stand-out parts (godly bass parts), it sounds like crap. Sure, he could pull off "Whiplash" or "RTL" or "Battery" where the bass playing is rather traditional...

  • Jason shouldn't have been allowed to play Cliff's material.

  • yes men i´m in complete agre with you, after cliff death jason brought attitud in metallica.

  • He simply can't pull it off. Sure, for a song like "No Remorse", or "Fade To Black", but for songs with especially good bass playing, Jason's lost.

  • then who would play it?

  • If they couldn't persuade Geezer Butler to join, they should have broken up, or maybe they just shouldn't play Cliff's "shining moments" like "Orion", "Bells", "Pulling Teeth", etc.

  • And you my dear, you shouldn't be allowed to listen to metallica then... Oh by the way, you say they weren't in tune with eachother. Well, that's cos of the recordings, it sounds like that. You really believe they wouldn't be in tune most of the time? Funny you are..

  • You know nothing about music. It's obvious.

  • You would be way surprised if you could only know what I know about music, recording, playing etc.. Judging musicians from the recordings is simple, I don't know if you ever played your own songs & music in front of thousands and dealt with sound issues. Talking is easy buddy, I hope you know what I mean..

  • Listen to you bragging yourself up like you're important. Even if you do "know" all that stuff, so what? All that means is that you've had expieriences and you've memorized note patterns, gear configurations etc. It means nothing.

  • Oh, and I've seen them live. They're almost always slightly out of tune with eachother.

  • Bragging myself up? Well, not at all. I'm just saying, that I do know about music, that's all. Why should I let myself pulled down by you? All I wanted was to make you understand that I know bout it and that ain't got nothing to do with bragging myself up. But you still insist to say that all I know 'means nothing'. Could you tell me pls: Does your knowledge means more???

  • BTW, I've seen them live too. Being out of tune, especially 'slightly' is very normal. It's up to the heat, the playing style, the songs, bending, pulling the strings, the guitars condition at that moment. But being half the time out of tune, that's exaggerated. And if you're able to figure out the 'slightest' differences, then you should be taking music lessons, who knows, maybe you have the perfect pitch and I'm talking to a great musician of the future. ;)

  • Look, bottom line is that you're denying them being out of tune, and blaming it on the recordings as if they were ALL mysteriously warped. I've heard it many times. And you're saying I shouldn't be allowed to listen to them because I pointed this out? My ear is damn-near perfect at hearing this things, tuning guitars is part of what I do for a living.

  • Well, the bottom line isn't quite like that. I didn't deny them being out of tune, I'm saying that half of the time is wrong! That's an exaggeration. Point! That 'allowance' thing was a joke, don't take it that serious. BTW, tuning guitars is one of the easiest things. The 'real' bottom line is, that it is ridiculous to say that metallica is out of tune, half of the time. You may be tuning guitars for a living, but they make music for a living. Hope you get the picture...

  • I know all about weather conditions, strings stretching out, etc. But yeah, about half the time I hear live Metallica guitar harmonies, they're out of tune. Why is it that Maiden have been in tune with eachother 95% of the time, but Metallica are in tune with eachother like 50% of the time.

  • I work on guitars for a living, not just tune them. Metallica makes a living off of a brand name. If you call "St. Anger" music, you're sadly mistaken. They're a once mighty band that you simply cannot defend any more. They're yesterday's news, but for some reason, people still pretend to like them.

  • I say it's pretty weird to say half of the time they're not in tune with eachother. Because they have their own guitar technicians, their own nearly perfect ears, right. Espeacially James Hetfield is well known to have a very good ear as you might know buddy. So, all I try to say is, either you have the absolute ear to hear things that most can't, or you have a problem with your ear...

  • It's cool that you make a living out of music, but I played long years on stage, and I can tell you one thing, even the angles makes a difference on what you hear. Sometimes, the crowd might hear the wrong tunes where as onstage everything is just right, or even viceversa.. Just keep everything in mind. As for Maiden, like I have said before, the playing style comes into play here...

  • Metallica's music is way brutal compared to Maiden's. Watch playing James and then Adrian or Bill. It is very normal when slight changes may occur while playing the songs. There are millions of reasons man.. Cmon. You said they make a living off te brand. Wow! Sure they make it, just like Maiden, Manowar, Megaseth, Danzig, Ramones, B.Sabbath... That's how things are my friend, sounds like you're new to the music scene, I know you're not, but sounds that way when you talk like that.

  • Bottom line again.. St.Anger is a great album in terms of honesty, energy & raw power. No one has to love it! I dont't get the idea to hate a band when they do their own stuff. You said we pretend to like them, why do you pretend to hate them? Cos they do what they wanna do instead of what you want them to do? Then you're more then welcome to hate them, cos that is exactly why I love them. I hope you understand that one day.

  • Since day one Metallica have been known for their attitude 'fuck all, we do what we wanna do' and thats heavy metal to the fullest. And I say, fuck all those bands who make music for the 'fans'. That's plain bullshit. I prefer a band making maybe bad music but their own honest music instead of a band making everysingle album the same just for the sake of holding the fands in their hands!

  • I don't believe for a second Metallica are an honest band, that's the point. Anyway, this debate is being dragged through the mud like Metallica's namesake. We're not going to agree with eachother, let's just leave it at that.

  • You missed the point completely. Metallica aim to please. Of course, they like to throw a spin on things to keep themselves "satisfied" but what happened during the alternative years? Haircuts, bisexual tendencies, make-up, Smashing Pumpkins style video, some grunge-sounding songs...

  • Excellent comment.

Metallica always did what they wanted to do. They gave and will always give a shit about

    other peoples opinions.

Im quite sure well have the same discussion in February, when the new album comes out...I think it will sound different again.

  • Every band that hits the "legend" status makes money off the name, sure. Point is, Iron Maiden still makes respectable music. I'm not a huge fan of the newer records, but at least they put guitar solos on there, at least they didn't go nu-metal. Metallica's the laughing stock of the metal community.

  • James Hetfield has tinnitus (spelling?) you idiot!

  • Idiot? Hmm, well, seems that you pissed off dor some reason. I could have written mny things here but it's no use. Leave you with your own 'truth'... Just put solos to the music and there you have it: Respectable music! Bravo, keep on. Moron.

  • That's not what I said, idiot. Zakk Wylde does solos and I hate the hell out of him. But at least Maiden put solos on their latest records, and least they're not trying to "keep up with the kids" unlike Metallica. Iron Maiden are still a respectable, honest band. Metallica are a joke.

  • Calling a person all of a sudden an 'idiot' is pretty weird, I think where you come from, it is the way people debate I guess?! Well, I'm sure where you come from the meaning of 'honesty' has been twisted also. You don't know what 'honesty' means boy.. Go watch monsters of rock interview with metallica, listen to what Lars says back then. Maybe you will understand, which I barely think so.

  • Maiden is a 'holding', you know that? I love Maiden, even more than you, I'm sure about that. But they are afraid of changing. They kicked out Blaze, just because fans wanted Bruce back! And Steve 'obeyed' to the fans. Sad but true. That's where all those bands differ from Metallica.. You'll see that too, one day. And btw, keep tuning those guitars, cos propably that will be your 'highlight' about guitars for the rest of your life buddy.

  • You have no clue what you're talking about. Bruce is far better than Blaze, that's why they brought Blaze back. And I love the fact that you think you know me enough to be able to tell me where I'm headed in life. Maiden's latest record is completely different from their first one, so there goes your theory of them being afraid to change.

  • Fuck where I come from. You called me a moron "all of a sudden" so I guess you're just as "weird" as I am.

  • Just for your info, buddy, you called me 'idiot' first, remember? Despite all my efforts to being kind and calling you buddy and stuff like that, just for the sake of having a polite conversation. Maiden didn't change, not a bit. They're just making not good music anymore. And Blaze was great, listen to his own songs, BLAZE! Bruce's just getting repetitive, and so is Maiden, that's a fact.

  • I think this conversation lost it's essence, it's meaning.. All I'm saying, If I'm not in a position to judge you or Maiden, or If ı don't have the knowledge to talk about what we are talking about right now, then you don't have the right to talk about Jason & Metallica neither. If you think you do, then I do too.. Hope you get it, my weird freind..

  • Of course it's lost it's essence, because you kept rambling on about new stuff the whole time, and all I said to begin with, if I recall correctly, was that those 2 are out of tune. As far as Jason goes, whenever he does the Cliff parts, it sounds crappy. Of course I realize they never gave him much say in the band. They'll be the first to admit that. I think he was better than those guys (as a person) during the later Met years, but he couldn't handle Cliff's position.

  • So it lost is essence because of me? Well, ok.. I tell you what, you really aren't aware what you're talking about. You say, Jason plays Cliff's part crappy, then you say they never gave much say to Jason, then you say he was better than the rest of the band as a person.. Now, how's that relevant man?

  • Jason was & still is a good player -Burton was different, no one should be even compared to him ever, that's something else- and what you call crappy was actually a style. Everyone is different than eachother. If you hear a new interpretation, either you like it or not, but that doesn't mean it is crappy. It is a very hard thing to fill the place like Burton's. Anyways, first the essence now the relevance has been lost...

  • No, it's crappy. See man, the problem with you is that you can't accept the fact that people disagree with you. I give my opinion, and you're all "you can't say that". Who the hell wants to hear Jason play Cliff's shining moments? Who actually prefer's Jason's version? Nobody. Not even Jason himself, hah!
