  • I'll bet this guy does OK with tips...

  • I have never seen this guy in France, life would you it against me?

  • Yeah, the instrument is a couple thousand. He's talented though. Street musicians are respected in France I guess.

  • I have seen this guy in Barcelona!!! So he probably has enough money to go around the world=)

  • Yea, I doubt this dude is poor, those things are expensive as hell. lol

  • ahora pagale los 15 euros

  • Moi je l'ai vu au village de Konoha, il jouait de la flute avec une fille au regard de catcheur !

  • @FrogsFactory MDR n'imp'.

  • he misses right when you zoom in hahaha, awesome though =D

  • If you can play like that, it doesn't matter how much money you have or don't have. You'll forever be rich.

  • Not all street musicians are poor. I have known several successful musicians who do it just for fun. Just to be out on the street playing because they love to.Jerry Garcia used to hang out at studios and sit in for free just because he really just loved to play.True artist are not about the money as they are the passion of the art. Thanks for posting this .

  • Awesome!

  • Amazing player but he looks miserable xD

  • Chapman Stick ft w, nice vid thx forthe up

  • Chapman Stick ftw, nice vid thxforthe up

  • Y pensar que Tony Levin, es un referente en este instrumento.

Puede ser que lo haya popularisado, pero como interprete es malisimo.

    ---

El tipo del video, le da una faceta emotiva y bella.

  • wow this shit is so fake lmao

  • @Billjo5 just becuz u dnt know how a chapman stick works duznt make it fake

  • Does not matter weather to rich or poor,F @"**-@ BRILLIANT.

  • True art moves you, inspires you, even motivates you. It can put a smile on your face, or a tear in your eye. With a true artist you feel what he plays as much as you hear it. This is true art, from a real artist.

  • Sir Edward!

    He's the man!

I met him in Aix En Provence in '07.

    Great player and nice guy!

I bought one of his CD's and still play it pretty frequently.

  • such a tender sounds, he must have a warm heart :)

  • the world is sad but the music speaks !

  • can anyone tell me how much it costs a chapman stick???

  • @xxXadiraelbloodXxx a ten string chapman stick is around $2000-2500

    stick . com / prices

  • @BrighamHB Tanks.

  • what the fuck is this shit?why this guy is poor?

he must be in some band and making money!

    so SAD!

  • @Hawmawn I wouldn't say he's poor, he obviously has enough money to buy the instrument and a nice outift

  • @deepislandboy it's europe

  • Comment removed

  • @Hawmawn busking doesn't necessarily mean you're poor... lots of musicians I know busk, and while they're not necessarily well off they're not all broke

  • @Hawmawn Yeah, remember, there's nothing to say that a street musician is poor, necessarily. After all, I busk regularly with my band, for no reason other than to get our music out there, and make a bit of money on the side.

  • I don't know why people always have to assume that if you're street performing that you are automatically poor. I was making $80 hr. + as a street performer in New Orleans. Enough to quit my "regular" job as a waiter. Had a really nice apartment with a swimming pool. That was before Katrina. Met a great woman doing that and got married. So much freedom. You make your own hours. Take a break whenever you feel like it. Always free to experiment and try new things. If people are rude, you can stop.

  • Off subject rant. Has the population become so stupid that they have to use profanity in even the most simple comments? For crying out loud, It may be sad that he is not in a band, but what is more sad is that you had to resort to profanity to make that statement. Learn to express yourself without it. You will seem alot smarter.

  • @Hawmawn I'm a busker myself and I'll have you know that it's more than likely that guy clears $200 - $300 a day. A day being about 5 hours of busking. There is nothing "sad" about using a skill you have to make some extra cash or even a living. What's really sad is people that slave away in jobs they hate for considerably less money because the don't have any entrepreneurial skills. Just know that buskers laugh behind the backs of people like you that are that close minded and ignorant.

  • @sk8achris ok man i didnt know that...now its clear for me....btw i love the way he plays!

  • @Hawmawn chapman sticks cost a shit load enough for a pos car or atleast a couple nights in a good hotel his looks brand new and i believe his is the most expensive you can buy

  • @Hawmawn some people busk because its just really nice, not for the money

  • @Hawmawn

Sometimes buskers aren't poor at all. They have an offering plate out as a manner of tradition. People like to get out and play. Sometimes they interpret the money they can get as a measure of providence or omen.

  • @AugustusLarch cool man...i didnt know about that,u know i`m from some other part of the earth:D but thats like cool tradition.

  • @Hawmawn

Chapman sticks are about $ 1500 retail for a base model. This guy also has a really good amplifier and speaker combo to get that quality of sound. It's good street music.

  • @Hawmawn

many of the good street musicians are not poor...that's kind of a prejudice

if you're good and you get people's attention you earn much more with making music in the street than with a normal job..

  • @Hawmawn Not all street musicians are poor... Thought about doing this once just for fun i mean if you are an artist you obviously want to have an audience and what better way to get one than to just walk right outside the door?

  • When I saw that, I had an existentialist question : Rather pley there with a CHAPMAN STICK for a dime, or continuing to see drunken guys front of me "air guitar herose", witth my foty years trying to get a good sound of all the instruments I've been paid to play ?

    Guess what's my choice ?

  • see the hurt in his eyes

  • I'm selling my blue polycarbonate chapman stick.

Don't hesitate to contact me for further details.

  • @neverforgive How much are you selling it for and could you possibly post a video of it? I am interested in trying to buy and learn how to play one.

  • european street musician performers are so talented

  • yea he looks pissed

  • he looks mean! lol

  • sounds beautiful

  • the chord choice is just exquisite

  • The Stick is the coolest instrument EVER!!! If I saw any street performer playing it I would instantly give him an awesome sum of money

  • Cool. I'll be playing around Hungary this summer. Hope to see you there! :-D

  • vera ortiz

  • Beautiful!

  • Great playing!

  • heyy men!!!, you should be famous , great music and tecnique

  • WOW

  • bello

  • look! it's Tony Shaloub!

  • he looks kinda pissed off

  • "he looks kinda pissed off."

    No, he's just French. lol.

  • @MySupaFli D'you know what they say 'bout americans in france?

  • @Fjord76 something cool probably.

  • @Fjord76 If it's rude, who cares?

  • @MySupaFli er.. not really. ^ ^"

  • heftycat:

they have an accoustic chapman stick too dumbass. :)

  • @subversed they only made one for bob culbertson........

  • I hope you gave him som money

  • I did, not sure how much though. He sure deserved it

  • Heftycat...new instrument? Not really, tapping instruments have been arund for ages. The Chapman Stick itself is just another form of one, and has been around since about 1970 or so. Versitile and nearly limitless in it's uses. Encourage you to check it out some more, you might find something you really like.

  • I agree, i dont like his tone at all, i play this instrument but i use different pickups to his and go for a different tone. I don't mind his tone that much but i think it just comes down to his taste. He's using rather light strings which make it sound weak i feel and electronic as you said.

But i dont think its any reason to dislike the instrument itself, plenty of bassists and guitarists have shit tone but that doesnt make those instruments bad really.

I get what you're saying though.

  • very nice recording of a fine experience!

  • he's awsome but if he can aford that why is he playing on the street lol

  • Who say's you have to be poor with an old busted guitar to busk?

  • after buying mine i have NO money left. So like me he probably needs to get some anyway he can. But street playing is great fun to me, though he doesnt seem to be enjoying it.

  • SuperPierrot7: Beautiful sound, still unsure how it works. Saw Jim Lampi with the late & much missed John Martyn. Fitted right in.

  • Sir Edward! I saw him in Aix En Provence (Sp?) about 2 years ago and bought one of his CD's from him. Nice guy and great player.

  • you know sometimes i never understands that talented people with such a great gifts never made it,while others they appear on such as nationa tv act like total idiots make lots of money.lmay it's destany???

  • I think he'd make a few more bucks if he turned that frown upside down.

  • It's like a portable piano played like a guitar. I'd learn, but it is expensive.

  • Its similar to piano in that it can play melody and bass interchangeably, but only in that sense.

  • its such a shame that this instrument isn't more famous

  • Beautiful. Thank you.

  • Sir Edward!

I met this gentleman in London while I was busking at Waterloo tube station a year or so back. He gave me one of his CDs. He was very happy that I was playing a Chapman Stick!

    Bucky the busker

  • That's cool, I can see why he would be glad, it's a beautiful instrument

  • Ouaah Papa, quel succès !

  • The stick is an awesome instrument. I play bass guitar and I can't imagine how difficult that thing is to handle. thx 4 posting it!

  • never saw an instrument like this

  • Excellent except the reverb isn't reaction well with the camera microphone.

  • San Francisco 1990?....That was Daniel Kane, he usually played near the Cannery and Ghiradelli by Fishman's Wharf...greatest stick player I have ever heard. Wish I knew where he was today or how to buy some of his music.

  • The first time I saw a Chapman Stick was a guy playing on the streets in San Francisco in 1990, very cool.

  • He must play in streets for fun...not for earn money, he has it already to buy his $2500 stick! To expensive for someone who "needs" money...

  • we don't know his story

  • well, you´re right...but it´s too expensive! i want one! haha

  • me too!!!!

  • It's not common to see a street musician play an expensive instrument.

  • Beautiful. Difficult instrument to master. Kind of him to share his talent as well as his music.

  • he looks like hes bend me over in a dark ally way

  • This guy is great. The Stick is a tough instrument to play, and he's very good -- he's talking with it.

  • sooo....did you give him any money?

  • I think we gave him a couple euros... not sure though hehe

  • it's Dan Hedaya!

  • haha hes like why the fuck is this guy filming me

  • woah dude, you are right, that does look like the same guy I saw in paris in my Dog Eats Pigeon video.

  • so nice. this guy is genious. have u ever heard the stick sound so much?

  • somebody know the name of the song?

  • The song is from the David Hamilton's film "Billitis".

  • Any mean comments

  • He is the dad of a friend of mine! haha

  • Comment removed

  • He's playing the theme to the movie BILITIS, which was about lesbian love.

  • Oh my word

I really don't think I can handle how cheerful he looks..

    The joy..

    It's just overpowering..

    lol

    Nice though, obviously.. :]

  • Man, thanks for posting this. I always love finding video/recordings of the unknown Stick players (I haven't heard of this guy before).

  • It was my pleasure :)

  • whats a chapman stick anyway

  • As you can see, it's a fretted stringed instrument. It is played by tapping and plucking the strings. I've never seen or heard of acoustic sticks and they are all electric.

  • That's not completly true ;-)

...there's the Acoustick...search for Bob Culbertson. He plays one.

    -lennart

  • oh cool thanks, I had no idea there were acoustic versions.

  • He plays it very soulful.....did you get his name.

    -lennart

  • His name is Eduardo. He's from Paris, but I met him a few monthes ago in Nive where he was busking at this time. I spoke with him a bit. He said me that he was pretty new to the Stick (one year I think) but not to music (he was a piano player before switching for the Stick). What else? Ask and I'll try to answer you ;-)

    Bruno

  • Hey man thanks!!!

  • Cool instrument
