  • This is the best I've heard of this. Besides the original. Bravo.

  • Ich denke nicht sie sind gut.

  • Its so Amazing how they are singing!!!!Perfect swahili :) Am a kenyan in sweden and I get proud when I hear other countries singing in my languge!

  • Holy shiiiit!!!

  • Åhh!!!

    Snyggt!!!!! :D

  • Молодцы! Спасибо за прекрасную песню! :) / Nice! Thanks for great song :)

  • Of all norse gods, Odin would be the least interested.

  • This really makes me smile. I believe that proves that I have a good heart.

  • I bet the acoustics were amazing :)

  • That was awesome! Go Värmlandskören!

  • very very good a dream

  • I think Odin would approve of this effort. :-)

  • @myquill23 what has that one-eyed bloke to do with anything?

  • wow very amazing, that was great :D

  • Good, the choir was in motion throughout the performance, even if it's just a step and a sway. I like that for a song like this.

  • this was so moving. what i would give to have been there!

  • Really Fantastic!

  • DAMN! You guys are good :D

  • ..wow i just blinked my eyes out of pure pleasure and noticed i had a tear forming in my eye..man baba yetu still makes my heart cringe with expectations of what we can be if we work hard...damn u civ 4 for making me hear it the first time! <3

  • Uppsala... isn't that where Lisbeth Salander was hospitalised

  • That building has some epic echoing, I mean wow...I'd give my arm and leg to get echoes of that quality.

  • ова е музика, тие го направија одлична работа, но мојот единствен жалбата е што се пее малку пребрзо if you wanna know what this is just google translate this from macedonian to english....

  • молодцы!

  • otherwise best ive seen on youtube

  • rushing in the begging..

  • rushing

  • Good to see someone actually nailing the dynamics a bit, a lot of choirs don't get the crescendos the way they are supposed to sound.

  • A shame about the poor sound quality, this could have been awesome rather than great.

  • bit fast, but i guess thats already been pointed out, great job

  • it's perfectly and completely normal for amateur choirs to go faster than the conducter's pace. but that's really fine, b/c as you see here, they fuckin nail it!

  • Gave me chills.

  • the best version i've heard. well done!

  • "Guys step up" EPIC

  • CIV4+Baba yetu=Awesome

  • the acoustics really added a flare to this performance. Great job!

  • I have to say, I really don't get why so many people comment about the pacing of the song. It's sung EXTREMELY well. So passionate and emotional and the most important thing? They had fun.

This is by far, my favourite choir version and I apologise to Valencia (just watched theirs a few moments ago) but their singers aren't anywhere near as passionate. In technical aspects, they might be better, but nowhere near as much energy as this lot.

I get shivers every time I hear this version =).

  • too fast otherwise the best choir for this song

  • this. is. so. amazing.

  • What's the rush? Waaaaay to fast!

  • Finally those damn swedes does something right. :|

  • Awesome !

  • You very good singing ,congratulation.

  • Hey this is not bad! Unlike those HS choirs. :)

  • i think the best version done is by valencia hs choir

  • it doesn´t sound harmonized, since it´s not the best technical equipment which was used to record that choir in that hall. just try to hear the fine crackles for example...then you know what I mean. in fact, it´s amazing. full of power as it should be. still shivering......

  • the best version jet

  • de sjöng denna på värmlands jublieumsbal... underbar som vanligt.

jag är nästan lite kär i simon (solisten).

    så stolt att vara värmlänning!

  • it is so messy!!! not harmonize at all.

  • A bit too much yelling xD But cool as heck, go Swedes :D

  • i can't get enough of this song. well done Uppsala U. student choir

  • i think valencia high school choir did much much better. they have way more soul and soloist is amazing :)

  • k.n.,nmçlmlmk

  • knlknlknkçlnklnkl

  • well done

  • everyone is bellowing

  • this is good but i prefer instrumental over voices but this is one of the best versions i've heard

  • solo dont yell man just enjoy it and more diction..=)

  • I think the tempo is a tad high, but it's not too distracting. The energy is spot on, hitting all the notes with amazing precision and not being afraid to go for the loud and high parts 100%. What I really can't get over is the accent. It's a wonderful performance, but you it's just not the same voice as the original.

  • thats pretty damn good.

  • do they all have hot dates or something? I've never heard it so fast before. It really takes away from the song.

  • ... the soloist isn't even singing the right words....

  • not a fan of the soloist, but very good sound from everyone

  • white people are good at some singing, just not every genre (and again i am white)

  • it might be to fast, but the energy is spot on, i keep coming back to this version, and they hit the ENERGY spot on.

so fuck you fucking haters, ill eat you alive when ragnarok comes

  • @Neonhelmet keep waiting for ragnarok, meanwhile I will go play some CiV4

  • @MrRangliu Good, playing games, keep you docile and domesticated.

Dont question authority, do as your told, pay your taxes, go to work, consume more than you did last year. And everything will be OK!

  • I don't like this one bit. Too fast. Sound levels are WAY off, and the lead singer is too loud.

  • Brilliant and Perfect. A shame of the low angle and terrible video quality.

  • I like this song, and choir's performance is very very good.

    Keep up the good ;)

  • Ah main singer threw me off, decent job though :)

  • Yea I agree, so sad most white people don´t express the feelings when singing (I´m also white), I really like to do so but my sing voice is all mesed up so it sounds like crap :/. Hope it will come up a video with african singing it

  • the guy is a bit too loud ant too fast

  • AMAZIIIING! love that song!!

  • tempo a bit too fast. Sounds rushed....other than that great job!!!

  • this is REALLY good - this song is hard to sing without music...

    im oficially impressed...

although the tempo is a bit off, but still its amazing

    thumbs up!!

  • They had to speed it up. thats why they make it more acoustic, and thereby sounds good without any backtrack.

  • Very good job!!!

My only complaint is, you guys suffered here a problem that plagues most choirs - pitch drop. Your drifted down about a semitone between first and last beat - compare 0:15 & 3:20.

Unlike T3hXinro, I am not sure you are going TOO fast. Yes, a slightly lower tempo might make it sound even better - but it already is very good.

Special congratulations to Messrs. Öberg and Rosenkvist.

Yours is my new favorite amateur rendition of Baba Yetu.

    5/5

  • It's well done, but it's way too fast. The song is supposed to be much slower and more reverential.

  • ye, its to fast.

but its well done. I know two of the girls :)

  • AweSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant wait for the music sheet to arrive.. then TIME to PErFORM it.. woot woot

  • great work

  • very perfect performance! good sound!

  • not even close to perfect

  • @Snprwlf Personaly I think this is the best version (together with the original) on youtube. Do you got another favorit?

  • The performance is totally perfect... but the clothing... :S :S :S

  • Finally, Swedish kids do it right.

  • @rosecaptain YES, with an audience that knows how to KEEP QUIET!

I like how loud it is. Very moving.

  • аустика очень хорошая и солист с хором нормальные

  • this is really good.

we are singing this for varsity choir. :D it's great.

  • Солист отжигает по полной, петухов пускает только так ) А вот хор молодец !

  • This is a beautiful version of the song! I LOVE it!!!

  • вот это реально круто!!!!

  • I want to sing there. that place looks amazing.

  • anyone know if this group releases higher quality audio of their performances? i especially like this one, it is probably the best rendition of this song i heard.

  • the main singer sings so wrong :(

  • uh he did a really good job

  • um he is actually pretty good for not knowing swahili.... but I bet you know that...

  • I think they made it faster so it would sound more upbeat.

  • When they all step together at 37s... and the chorus rises... it's amazing. and it gets better too.

only problem is, it is quite fast!

  • same here

  • adoro questa canzone e il coro è spettacolare!!! bravissimi

  • yep i creid like a little bitch myself at the peak 1:30'ish

  • cried... ffs

  • This is EXCELLENT, seriously. :D

Its performances like these that make me tear up a little. :)

A bit fast at the beginning, still excellent though.

  • very very nice GJ

  • It's a little too fast but its still the best version I've heard yet. Chapeaux-Bas for the soloist!

  • Like a few mentioned, a bit too fast. It would have been a lot better if they hadn't sounded like they still had to catch a train afterwards. :P

Still pretty darned good though. :)

  • Altough it is a bit too fast this performance is amazing! Probably the best (amateur) performance that's available on YouTube

  • I have never heard this song a cappella, but I absolutely loved it. The ensemble sounded excellent, but the soloist was a little strained, and his diction was, quite frankly, bad. Still one of the best performances available on youtube.

  • Wow...just, wow. I had goosebumps running from the top of my head all the way down to my feet. This is simply amazing, I wish I could have been there to see it live.

  • Probably just a little too quick for me in tempo, but very, very well sung and performed.

  • the video doesnt do this performance justice. It would have sounded incredible there and it is simply the best acapella of Baba Yetu out there! (especially the back singers)

  • homagawd....acapella...this is....i'm stunned...i can't think of anything to say!

  • A CAPELLA <3

    This is wonderful.

  • this was excellent. ok now lets see them sing a song their own language, their pronunciation would probably be even greater.

  • def. one of the best choir festivals in the world!

Awesome. I came last year from Germany to listen to it..and..awesome is no impression for it!!

  • the soloists annunciates so well and you guys are perfectly in key.

    i started crying

    it was so beautiful.

    perfect.

    5+ stars

  • Oh my Gawd! I had to go and remember my password so that I could say how good this was.

    Goosebumps the entire time!

  • agreed this is much better than all the others!

  • wow...i dont have any words to describe this

  • WOW....i've NEVER heard it done acapella...BEAUTIFUL....absolutely AMAZING job...a little fast...but dang...NIIIIICE job with the choir still singing the originally full instrumental part... i THOROUGHLY enjoyed this....my choir is singing this, this semester and i really enjoyed your acapella take on it....

  • wow my choir director was at this whole festival and she wasn't joking this was great

  • definetly the best on youtube, even though its a little fast.

  • wow. i think that was at double speed. why? it sounds so much better at the correct tempo. there's a reason the composer puts the tempo at the top of the page.

  • I agree a little slower would have been better, but music is as much about being faithful to the original as it is to interpretation. Perhaps they thought it was better faster... i disagree with them, but it is no ones place to say that they can't sing it fast if they want to.

  • ditto

  • choral was great, I will agree on that.

however I found that the dynamics of the choir left much to be desired. Parts where they should be much softer are very loud, especially at the start, totally drowning the soloist.

To put it simply, way too loud.

Otherwise, this was great. A capella eh, gotta try that out xD

  • I can answer to the loudness part. I have sung with Värmlands choir in the University hall i Uppsala and you can't hear your self singing. All sounds drowns somewere in the big hall. You get no respons at all, especially when you stand like the choir does in this video, in a line, very brave of them. You tend to think that the audience doesen't here what you are singing and therefore you sing louder.

  • @bomander Awesome... :)

  • The fact that the male part of this choir sing for them self under the parole "Strength and speed" might expalin a bit.

  • absolutely amazing; love the song and im totally gonna get my choir to try this if i can...its just simply amazing, you guys did great

    -aj

  • Amazing, it really is the best version on YouTube.

  • bad quality....

but really great!!! I'm sure it was amazing to hear it live...!

  • the lead goes a little fast imo but otherwise this is amazing cover and probably the best out there.

  • wow it is so much better a capella. soloist is very good.

  • mvulana wa solo huyu alitokea nini?

  • i think this is deff. the best version on youtube, but because of the group not the soloist. don't get me wrong though, its really hard to recreate the original sound of this solo. great vid

  • this was the best ive heard any choir do this song. awesome job

  • This was amazing.

I doubt my chorus will sound this

    amazing before our spring concert.

  • Great job.

  • Im a Swahili native speaker have sang this song in different version, but this one really made me so emotional good job folks I would love to sing it in your language as a pay back.

  • This concert hall has great acoustics! Great blend of voices too! GREAT JOB!!!

  • Best on Youtube

  • Except the original this is the best version I've ever heard. Choir is so powerful! Great job!

  • my chorus did this song and i had a solo in it and this chorus could give us a run for our money, and we were named best in the tri-state area

  • swedish choir (:

  • Perfect!

  • This song is excellent, really hard to sound like the original and the origonal soloist, but you guys do a brilliant job of making this sound authentic especially emotion wise.

  • barven2 at 6:10p.m. on nov 19 u hit 10,000 hit great job!

  • My friend just sent me the link to this song! OH BOY! :)

  • That was definitely the best attempt I've heard. Extremely good start and fills, great chorus, but yeah, about 50% too fast I think. The tempo needs to be relaxed, thats just the way the song is I think, it shouldn't be rushed or sped up.

  • That was very a good, a little fast, but still really good.

    I loved the Tenor part!!!!

    XD

  • best performance ive heard yet! chorus was absolutely AMAZING!!!

  • We had decided to take it a bit faster than the original one and the minutes before preforming our conductor got sick so another one took his place..

  • dont like this version, they shout too much. the chorus should be almost imposible to listen, in this case they shout more than the solo guy

  • tempo is too fast, guys.

  • I actually liked the tempo this way but I know what you mean.

  • lead isn't on tone sometimes

    but the choir is amazing

  • Choirs good, but the lead...meh.

    Stop screaming in my ear.

  • LOL, I agree. It must be hard because his voice doesn't fit with the style. He didn't do bad though....

  • omg to fats but good nice HS i wanna nice HS :'( damn sweds

  • fast

  • one of the best versions, even a little fast. very nice

  • the speed is one thing...but the dynamics are fairly good....good job.

  • You gotta be kiddin me.......Did the director of this choir really study the song? it's too fast and off beats....I use to listen to this song for more than 10 years in church back home in Kenya.....

  • yeah, you are right. but maybe he's just made a version.faster?well, its his version

  • Good choir, but this song was sung waaay too fast. Slow it down and it will be PERFECT.
