@bensdadfrank Yes, yes, yes. This is my favorite music from the brilliant Shaun Davey! It is also the theme music played during the heartwrenching final scenes when Peter is leaving Ballykissangel, having lost Assumpta forever. He retraces almost exactly his steps after hearing that Assumpta has married....into the sanctuary, up to the altar and into the sacristy one last time. Genius..... pure genius!!
@mslady627 I was happy to read your comment. I discovered BallyK years after it aired on TV and have been profoundly affected by it. It has astonishing depth, esp. series 1-3 and has a lot of meaning for me personally. I've been writing some longer pieces that attempt to express the secret thoughts Peter and Assumpta were likely having about themselves and each other. They're not posted online, but if you would like to correspond about it, you're welcome to e-mail me at etrevar@gmail.com.
@ETrevar I am enjoying so very much your fresh new insights into the Ballykissangel experience. Your comments are spot on and show new ideas that I haven't seen before. I love love love this show and am so grateful to find a new fan. Please keep sharing. I will keep coming back to see your new insights.
@mslady627 I replied in the Comments stream from my iPhone but then realized that you probably wouldn't get notified that way (YouTube via iPhone is a bit limited). I was happy to read your comment. I've been writing some longer pieces called "Heart Murmurs" that attempt to express the secret thoughts Peter and Assumpta were likely having about themselves and each other. The acting here is perfect, as are the editing and music. No surprise for Stephen Tompkinson (Fr. Clifford) because we're used to that from him, but it's also one of Tina Kellegher's (Niamh's) best bits in all 7 seasons of BallyK. Here she shows real depth of sensitivity through her facial expressions, real awareness of the impact of her words on Peter, laced with enough uncertainty that we feel how much she is also personally affected and confused by Assumpta's drastic decision and action.
@ETrevar Absolutely spot on, and I can always feel it with him. Brilliant acting, and editing, and all that goes with it. They always save the music that plays as Peter leaves the pub, for the most poignant moments between Asumpta and Peter.
Peter's heart stopped, a wave of nausea sweeps over him, his mouth goes dry, then his heart pounds in his ears. Afraid of tears welling up or Niamh hearing his heart pounding, he seeks escape. He's reeling, but even his favorite sanctuary feels empty and cold. Everything sparks memories of Assumpta. He's lost the only person he really loves, and he feels trapped inside his skin, distraught and directionless.
This scene tugs at my heart more than any other no matter how many times I watch it. You just know that Peter must be thinking "If only I had told her how I feel she would not have made this mistake and now it's too late". Heartbreaking.
I get the feeling that while on retreat and away from Assumpta he resolved to refocus on his priesthood. Her going off and getting married took care of that, since it pretty much drove him mad with jealousy and ensured he'd be more in love with her than ever.
Heartbreaking. I do wonder if he came back from retreat resolved to leave until he found out she was married. By the way he reacted when Niahm first said her name, it was clear she was on his mind
Series 1-4 are the best!!! I lost interest after the Peter/Assumpta storyline was over! I want to watch it again- you can't help but feel very sad for Peter in this clip!
I'm very grateful for all the clips from BallyK. I've only recently discovered it and I haven't seen all the episodes. It would be great if you could post the "Love is Teasin'" scene, also from "I Know When I'm not Wanted", with Peter and Assumpta's reactions. It's one of the most touching moments in the whole series, I absolutely adore it. Thank you so much !

All these touching episodes bring back pleasant memories of BallyK, which I saw 10 years ago. Thanks for sharing.

OW, that is painful to watch :(
My first thought when I watched this bit was 'Bad Niamh! You made Peter cry!' Aw, he's such a wibble.
