  • @jasonness: this is DiDo. I came across this video again. I noticed some posts about me (11 months ago). I don't have facebook or any social accounts, nor have I stayed in touch with anyone (for no reason at all, just anti-social). I had to create this account today to post this. I miss the old days a lot. I have watched this video a few times to reminisce and read the comments for a laugh. I left the section in '03; still the best time of my life, even the 30 mile road marches. Who's KeyserS ?

  • @138dido Wow hi Mike. I don't know who KeyserS is. Jones sent me a good message on youtube private mail. I still have a photo of you unconscious and wrapped in duct tape for your own safety if you want me to email it to you..

  • Haha by reading the title it would not be hard to think that the video is about Rangers being with the Swedish king Carl XVI Gustaf ^^

  • @LuciusCorneliusMacro ^-^ hihi! *♥*

  • @SuperFaner Ak 5 has more in common with the Galil and the R4(?)(South african Galil clone) then the M16. If you didn´t fire the Ak 5 it has the kick of a air gun... :)

  • @SuperFaner I have fired the M16, but never cleaned it. I really liked the Ak 5s ease of maintenance an that tehre is no plastic were it counts. :P

  • @SuperFaner I lööööved the Ak 5.

  • !!!!!Assistans steps back!!!! in the swedish army we stand right next to him so we can reload fast,

  • So I take it it's in the U.S. military training to get familiar with the metric system?

  • A nice piece of Swedish handcraft!

  • Pls, you cant realy compare Javelin whit Carl Gustav M3 (Grg m/48,or). Carl G. was first manufacture in 1948 and it have experience few changes throuh the years. But its realy cheap (compare to Javelin) and its light, reliable and you can carry more ammunition and its not only a anti-tank gun. You have a lot of diffrent amo to Carl G.

  • I love when the air disappears around you just after you've pulled the trigger. I remember spitting blood after I fired 6 rounds in fast pace once. That was with the Swedish ammunition though.

The common name however is NOT Carl Gustav, it's GRG. (Granatgevär, grenade rifle). I know Wikipedia claims this, but it's wrong. Even if you yanks think so.

  • Ft Stewart...LOL I remember those days...RLTW!!

  • I have a question. im joining the military (probably when im 20, im a late bloomer and as such it will take me longer to finish growing) so what branch would you recommend? my options are Marines, Army, and Air force. what would you recommend without trying for special forces, and does your decision change if special forces is an option?

  • @EliteDWB oh and i only want soldiers replying or those who have experience in the military.... just thought id throw that out there.

  • "gun up your anus"

  • "The CG is so loud it feels like you have been punched in your soul" LOL

  • Which is better the gustav, the AT4, or Javelin?

  • @MegaLaidback for versitility reasons javelin but all are effective. Javelin takes more training to be effective in firing however. Top fire mode is superb on taking out armor.

  • @RideOrDie5V2B Ok thanks!

  • @MegaLaidback

Depends on what your target is.

The Javelin is more of a fire and forget anti tank weapon.

The Gustav has more diverse set of ammunition, but you can't lock on to a target like the Javelin.

  • @Wiromax3 Whats lighter to carry but still effective.?

  • @MegaLaidback

The Gustaf (M3) wieghs about 8.5 Kilograms and the Javelin 22.3 Kilograms.

Some of the Gustaf ammonition has a range of 1300 Meters and the Javelin 2500 Meters.

There is probably plenty more information on wikipedia.

  • @Wiromax3 Ok Thanks.

  • KG NOOOOOB!!!

  • @jaysonness What is the difference between 441B and D?

  • @ryeable I have not heard of 441D. Maybe we didn't use them in the USA.

  • @jaysonness Is it dial adjusted in 10m increments or 50?

  • @ryeable labeled in 100 m increments but tic-marks at 10 m increments, if I remember correctly. The last time I held one was 10 years ago.

  • @ryeable It's 50m, if you mean the grenades. (I was a loader for one of these in 2007)

  • I just love the bang and that nice punch in your chest you get when you fire it. The fact that it is still used today in so many countries really proves that it is an awesome weapon. Thanks for uploading!

  • it fires round by nearly speed of sound .. thats badass note to say

  • i like it better than the At4

    you cant reload an At4

  • At 3rd Bn when we originally got these. We were trained by the Swedish military 3/75 Aco Weapons Platoon 89-93

  • Swedes make excellent weapons and Marabo-chocolate. And the swedish blondes are sweet....

  • damn thiefs shoots with swedish weapons :O

  • I think I recognize a few of these Rangers... Cco AT... right?

  • @2wheeledsamurai Aco AT

  • Dido got knocked on his ass!!

  • @jaysonness AWESOME!! Served in Cco AT, cool to see Dido get knocked on his ass!!

  • @KeyserS If you talk to dido, show him this video. I can't find him on facebook or myspace or anything.

  • @jaysonness Will do, I've been looking for him also.

  • lol noobstav

  • NERF THE GUSTAV

  • @DisturbedNZ NERF THE AGILITY!

  • Very nice impact @ 2.40

  • Good old Carl "knugen" Gustav !

  • in sweden even the home guard have carl gustav. =P

  • we should use rpg-7

  • the Carl Gustav is the best rocket launcher in use,

its better than those cheap throw away at4

  • i know i guy in my platoon when i was in bosnia, he ducktape the countdown on the granade so he could "lobba" in the grenades and they explode when they hit the ground.,, frye chicken

  • This was my Gun when I was in the 2/75th. It kicks ass.

A co 2/75th RGR Rat Bstards Weapons Platoon hooah.

  • This was my Gun when I was in the 2/75th. It kicks ass.

A co 2/75th RGR Rat Bstards Weapons Platoon hooah.

  • Swedish power ^^

  • Its from 1948 and still kicking ass. Amazing.

  • @AnglarnaGoteborg ofc its been modified since 1948..

  • @Ailasor is only the material that has changed, it is basically the same as they first produced 1948, except that some models have other sights.

  • Swedish weapon :D yay, its pretty old but it does it job like it should be a 00 manufactured weapon, a truly great AT weapon

  • Best Swedish weapon ever made, PERIOD!

  • I used this as a weapon-specialist at K4 Ranger in Sweden. Awesome firepower. I can still feel the taste of blood in my mouth after a few rounds!

  • Funny, carl gustav is a weapon from 1948. Still the worlds most powerful nation with the most technological uses the little country of swedens rocketlauncher from 62 years ago :D

  • @str8erthanu It's not a rocketlauncher,it's a recoilessrifle.

  • can someone tell me if also other us forces use the carl gustav, like marines or the "standart" infantry ?

i now that they are also using the at-4 rocket launcher, or the javelin or predator. the smaw is also a very brilliant anti-tank weapon...

greetings from germany, we only use the panzerfaust 3 and the milan-anti-tank-missle in our infantry units :(

hope u blow some haci-asses up in afghanistan :-)

  • @PigSlaughter1988 ; at the time this was filmed only special ops used the gustav in the US. I believe that is still true.

  • @jaysonness

does it mean all special/elite ops ?

rangers, delta force, seals, green berets ?

  • @PigSlaughter1988 rangers and seals for sure. the other special ops, I don't know but probably.

  • at4 is not a rocket launcher xD. haha you shoot a 84 mm grenaide with it the same you shoot with Gustav xD. Greetings frome sweden.

  • @PigSlaughter1988 you mean Haji?

  • @BOBC82

    yeesss

  • @PigSlaughter1988 Well sweden made it and use it.

  • @jumbinjumbin

i´m interested which of the us forces is using it...

  • @PigSlaughter1988 AT-4 is a grenade launcher, not a rocket launcher. It sends out a grenade, not a missile. Milan has other purposes - it is not meant to eliminate armored vehicles from closer distances like PF3, AT4, CG etc.

  • When you´re in combat the assistant gunner does NOT step back, that way you can load it faster and get another shot much quicker. At least in Sweden and this is a swedish weapon :) but maybe that´s just us

  • best

  • lol swedes

  • That is Swedish Power

  • Damn you folks for calling this fine weapon a recoilles rifle or even worse "a gun".

It's a gaddamn shoulder mounted cannon for crying out loud ;-))

  • This weapon has got a few bleeding noses and burned eyebrows on it´s conscience.

  • Funny little sweden came up with this GRG, JAS 39 and much more. And now they are disbanding there military forces. To trust there ally

  • To trust their allies? Haha what allies!? we are not disbanding our forces, just regrouping them. Our former standards does not fit for modern warfare.

  • @odinsson

swedens allies are the EU forces and other Nordic countries. And no, sweden is not regrouping their forces. Their being cut down. The government has dis-militarized more then 50% of the former military zones in sweden. Unless regrouping=working at ikea and ICA...

And what are you talking about our former standards isnt fit for modern warfare? Ofcourse it was, back then we could defend our selves. Now if russia would attack they have come up with that it would take 20-30 hours...

  • DAMN so powerful to handle

  • Hey Jaysonness; Just wondering if you remember Sgt Ross or Sgt. Paulson. They were in 1/75 in 96-97. If not ,"God Speed" Oh nice vids brother.

  • I remember Sgt. Ross... Bco Fister...

  • 2wheeledsamurai:

He was a PLDC buddy of mine. I was in Stewart at the time in my 2nd enlistment, 2nd mos. Lost contact with him years ago. Just hoping he's still alive and hopefully still married. "GOD SPEED"

  • Cool man. I think the last time I was him was 2001. Great guy. I'm pretty sure he's alive alive and kickin'. ;)

  • Hey Brother: He told me he was getting out ;due to hardships on the family. I told him stay a while-play a while. I'm surprise about 2001. Your right-he's a stand up guy!

  • When i trained with this one in sweden we started with the 9mm (or was it another zise??) tracerround for target practise .(liitle sound or recoil)

Without me knowing it the sargent loaded a full round . I almost shit my pants when i pulled the trigger .

  • @klinger75 haha, nice practical joke. We used a 7.62x51 tracer bullet with less gun powder in the start too.

  • 0:56 - 1:00 fuckin fuckin....

  • In NZ the limit is 12 rounds a day. Apparently it compresses the diaphragm when fired (from the pressure) and may cause internal bleeding. I saw a guy get a bleeding nose after firing around 10 rounds in an afternoon (either firing it himself or as the loader) so this may have some truth to it.

  • Love my Swedish CG. Apart from AT4 (which is swedish too ;D), it's a very good anti-armor weapon.

I think 8 or so rounds per day is what's allowed in Sweden, during practice that is. But anyway, they got some accurate fucking artillery aswell. All hail Bofors, THE SWEDE! He starts war, he fuels war. lol :D

  • Yeah, im Swedish and i think you're right about the 8 round limit. I recall there was a day and a week limit, but like the instructor said "i stand beside each and every one of you day in and day out, and im fine)

  • Hello, it´s 6 rounds a day in Sweden and thats really boring cause its a great gun to shoot with. Glad u like it. Hail you too:)

  • god damn it im only 15 so i havent done the army training yet but i got happy when i read it was a 12 limit..then 10 and i thought "well ok" and then 6 ;(.. well i guess its better than 0

  • Well , when u are side by side with a soldier who shots Carl Gustav you understand why they have those rules.. belive me

  • yeh im sure i will, but thats not what i meant, i just wished that they wouldnt do damage to me so that i could fire a billion of theese or something xD

  • Modern HEAT rounds with rocket engines boosting the grenade after leaving the gun do exist.

Also note that HEAT rounds are fin- stabilized instead of being spin-stabilized, because spin hampers HEAT grenades effectiveness.

  • I'd say that unless the assistant gunner is supposed to move away when the gun is fired in combat, having him do so in training is to put it plainly bad training - train as you fight - fight as you train.

  • While I respect other opinions, to say this is "bad training" is quite simplistic. There is a very good reason the assistant steps back. Do you really think this type of marksmanship training will make these Rangers less effective? Of course not. When in combat the AG will not leave his gunner because of this training. They do an unbeleivable amount of skill drills in combat simulation type training. When combat comes they will be ready because of this "bad training" not in spite of it.

  • @jaysonness

shut the fuck up u fuking nerd faggot. your not even in the army.

  • @CarlAlex2

In some armies which use th CG there are rules how ofter per day a soldier is allowed to stand next to it (I think in Sweden its 6 times) in peace time. Because it seems to ruin your organs and body when you stand next to it just way too often over years.

  • In Denmark the limit is 20 per day.

People (personally known) going to the limit and above have reported feeling pretty beat up and physically exhausted just by being close to many firerings.

Not likely to be relevant for the crews (at least not with the amount of ammo available in Denmark) but certainly for instructors/safety officers,

  • They actually don't know if the punch can create internal problems. They suspect it might but no one has any recorded problems so far. Its like what they said about talking too much in a cell phone. It might cause a problem. Ive been firing 10-15 a day during many exercises without any complications.

  • Your comment makes the most sense on the subject of internal damage. How would they really know of internal micro-tears unless they had multiple gunners report problems.

  • I'm an old 1st Batt AT guy too. Cco 84-88 back when it was hard (heh heh). We had the M67 (AKA "sewer pipe" and "90"). The army had a hard time finding us ammo, evidently they stopped making it during Vietnam or not too long after. I wrote to Carl Gustav, got all kinds of literature, videos, etc.and wrote proposals. My LT helped me send them to the right folks. I ETS'ed in 88, so I don't know how or if I was instrumental in getting the CG adopted, but it's nice to think so. Bye bye 90.

  • How did you guys jump with the 90. it seems really long compared to the Gustav. Any way thanks for your service in getting us the CG as it is a wonderful weapon.

  • Another fun fact: In Sweden during training we are (or at least "were" 10 years ago when I used it) only allowed to fire 6 rounds a day because of the risks of internal organs getting damaged by the blast-wave. Is it the same in the U.S?

  • Yes, same in us. That is why the assistant gunner steps away so that the rounds are not added to his total. There are only a certain number of rounds per day that you can fire or be next to due to the danger of internal organ damage.

  • Yeah, when I was in bat in was 12 per day... The danger is because the overpressure can put micro tears in the parachardial sacks around your heart, causing internal bleeding... I weapon system that slowly kills you as you quickly kill them. Love it.

  • Fun fact: Carl Gustav is named after the current king of Sweden: King Carl Gustav the 16th. This happened when the king was only 2 years old.

Must be awesome to have a weapon named after yourself when you're only 2 years old.

  • Comment removed

  • I think it depends a lot on what you grow up to be. If you grow up to be a pacifist you probably wont be that proud, but if you grow up to become a gung ho type... sure. That would probably be awesome.

  • lol

    but no.

the weapon is called a carl gustav cause the factory its produced in was named Carl gustav, every weapon from that factory is called the same name, the mauser copy, the M45 smg and so on...

its a brand name, like colt or remington

  • No, you're wrong

  • @titan5000 your "fun fact" reminded me of euro trip... Here's a fun fact, YOU MADE OUT WITH YOUR SISTER MANNNNNN.

  • @titan5000 The rifle is not named after Sweden's current king Carl Gustaf, but after the factory where it was produced (Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori; "Rifle factory of Carl Gustaf's Town") The factory, however, has got his name from an "alternative" name of Eskilstuna (where the factory is situated), which the city got in the 17th century, after the king Carl X Gustaf.

  • @titan5000 Fun - but you couldnt be more wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • @titan5000

Not entirely correct, although one might thinks so. Carl XVI Gustaf is not the king behind the name.

It is named after the "Warrior King" Karl X Gustav" in the 17th century. Hence the spelling with a K and an V instead of a C and an F.

Karl X Gustav also founded arms manufacturing in the city of Karl Gustavs stad, more known to modern swedes as Eskilstuna.

  • The manufacturer's website calls it "Carl-Gustaf Multi-Role Weapon". In 1st Ranger Bn we called it ; Carl Gustav, or goose, or gooseneck, or M3, or recoilless rifle. We even refered to it as a gun. As a person who has spent many "special" moments with this weapon all of these names are acceptable to me.

  • what is that he refers as a iluminator like a IR light or something?

  • I'm an old 1st Bat AT guy...It's nice to hear some things don't change. ;) RLTW

  • All weapons naming is full of things that don't make sense.

The term rifle is used because the rifling, but no one calls an SMG, pistol or tank gun a "rifle".

Some smoothbore long guns are even called rifles and revolving designs are only called revolver when it looks like a Colt SAA type weapon.

I would call the Carl G a "recoilless canon" if I got to name the type.

  • Yeah, I understand your logic...but it is in fact sometimes called an 84mm recoiless rifle by Army Rangers,,, Because of the rifling and because it has a firing pin. A Gustav really is like a big gun with big bullets...

  • In sweden it goes by the name of GRG, short for granatgevär (Grenaderifle if you would translate it but i dont think thats the correct term)

  • @titan5000

The big difference between a canon and a recoilless rifle is that a canon isn't recoilles.

  • @peter7228 A rifle isn't recoilless either.

  • you are welcome :)

  • The RAWS, Carl Gustav, SMAW, and AT-4 are recoilless guns, not rocket launchers. All the force for flight is released at launch. There is no flight motor providing propulsion in flight. The RPG-7 and LAW on the other hand, use a rocket motor. The RPG-7 is almost a hybrid, using a soft-launch booster to get it out the tube, then a motor takes over.

  • At least someone knows what a recoiless RIFLE is... the Carl G even has a rifled barrel noobs, so stop calling it an RPG or Gren Launcher.

  • Hooah. An 84mm shoulder fired, lateral percussion weapon or recoiless rifle. The Carl G rocks. Of all the things I miss about Ranger Bat, I miss firing that bad boy the most.

  • rocket launcher not recoilless rifle

  • sorry but thats also wrong , its a grenade launcher

  • Sweden!!

  • Love the sound

  • i dont know why but i've always liked weapons and am curious how they work,

probably the sign of a sick mind

    thanks for posting

  • Seems like its a bit defferent from how we did it. In sweden the reloader sits next to the gunner all time, maby thats how u do it in live exercise? Anyways i loved my GRG :) And her name was Berit! haha.

  • yes I used it also in swedish army also "lumpen" :)

we always had combat oriented practis with it even on the shootingrange, always siting/laying beside

damet i forgotten my name on it :).

  • Same is US Army Rangers...our "reloader" which we call an "assistant gunner" Sits to the side, loads and check to make sure the backblast area is clear...

  • Swedish quality.. sweet =P

  • Great video of a great weapon. Even being so old its still better in application than the newer AT4s and whatnot. Simple operation + lots of engagement options = on track for a good infantry weapon (even if it is heavy)

  • Don´t forget the sturdyness of the launcher.

It can take a lot of punishment before it malfunctions. The problem (If any) is usually in the rounds. That´s why we´ve been lugging old Carl around for almost 60 years now.

  • Old doesnt always mean sucks, look at the browning .50 caliber machine gun.

  • It damn well should be. It weighs a ton and his mother, glad that i didnt have to lug one of these around when i served...

  • It's not that heavy... I 240B machine gun is heavier... What's heavy about this weapons systems is the rounds! Some are 24" long. Thank God for Assistant Gunners and Ammo Bearers...

  • Thanks for the info. The thing i *did* have to carry around for a while was a practice one with the simFire crap inside. Those are nasty.

  • Oh yeah...that 24" long all gray colored one. You put a 9mm round in it for target practice. Yeah, those are heavy! lol

  • OMG i love that gun =D

  • I tryed the CG when i did my time in the swedish army. Good weapon. Abit heavy though. Sweden has another light version aswell, can only use it once though and then you throw it away. You yanks use the light version alot in iraq. Can't remember the name now blaa ..

  • no entiendo porque el proveedor se retira del lado del disparador si el debe permanecer alli asi que a ustedes les falta mucho

  • well they have made a new version of this weapon and the round fired now.

so you can fire it in a little room with out getting hurt anymore :D

americans and english armys wants the new version so i quess the swedish are the best at making this kind of weapons still :P

  • there is no new weapon of this kind...you are prolly thinking of the p-86 aka at-4

  • Only fired this thing twice when I was in the Canadian Armed Forces. Very cool weapon to fire but a pain to carry around with some pretty expensive ammunition :)

  • Yeah! It´s fun to fire, but carrying the launcher along with your personal gear is no picninc, and the poor guys who have to carry the rounds are even worse off! Those things are both bulky and heavy! Still.. It´s a great weapon for busting up bunkers and other inanimate objects. (I wouldn´t try it on a modern tank though! You´ll probably just piss it off) Cool vid! Thanks from this old Swedish infantryman, who have carried a C-G for many ardous miles. (the happiest time of my life)

  • Yeah for me it's also a love hate thing. hate the weight+all the bloody gear & having to hump all that for endless miles.

The gunner usually the one who suffers the most. The ammo bearer usually man-packs 2 canisters(4rds)in theory would have 4 dummy rds to simulate the combat load, however in peacetime training canisters are usually empty, canisters instead make excellent waterproof storage containers for extra rations like cans of spam, sardines, candy bars, smokes, soda bottles etc ... ;)

  • In our squad, the ammo guy had to carry 6 live rounds and 2 smoke rounds + personal equipment (On exercies of course) The sounds from this vid brings back all the good memories :) The backbreaking stuff seems faded (It has been 13 years since my service) Now I mostly remember the good stuff, but I do remember the bulkyness and weight of the launcher.
