Ive driven both, the cayman S at that, and happen to own an m3 the Cayman is good no doubt but the m3 is better in my opinion better balanced more power, I wreckon the problem this bloke had with his m3 vs the Cayman was actually the tires, I drove my m3 and got sick of the tires in a little over a week and had to quickly change and with that change I changed my mind about how I felt about the Cayman (good).

i've had an m3 and even an 2009 m6. Now I drive Porsche Cayman. BMW is sweet, service only so so. The excitement in the Cayman drivers voice says it all. Thats what the Porsche Cayman does to ya. (good by BMW)

The cayman is the better car hands down. The cayman is a mid engine rear wheel drive car and the m3 is a front engine rear wheel drive. Mid engine us the way to go. The only reason the 911 is considered better is because of the bigger motor in the 911. If they would put the motor from the 911 in the cayman it would bust all over just about anything. The cayman is light, powerful, and has great balance. I take the cayman.

The Porsche Cayman has the potential to be much better than the 911. It's just that Porsche is more concerned with keeping the 911's image superior and of course sells. The reality is that the only thing keeping the 911 on top is a bit of power, the Cayman is no “Poor man’s 911” but more accurately “Smart man’s 911”. Al most anyone who knows anything about cars would agree with me on that statement.

This is the older Cayman S; the new (09+) one would rip the balls off that M3. And yes, the newer ones use PDK not tip tronic like the one in this video. Actually even the older model Cayman S performs better than the E46 M3 (shown in video). The E92 M3 and new Cayman S are pretty even when it comes to track performance but I’ll still take the Cayman S. It’s not just about the “numbers” it’s more about the “experience” as far as I’m concerned.

ummm actually there are good and bad rev limiters. Bad ones abruptly cut off the gas or spark to the engine, good one are "softer" and less invasive and will curb the power in a less abrupt manner.

Test drive both and then choose. I think Porsche handles better because of the larger performance tires, despite the MUCH larger BMW engine (400+ hp to the Cayman's 310). If you need the space, take the M3. But if you just want something to wrap around yourself while you make your heart pound like a blacksmith with Bill Gates' credit card...Cayman S!!!

The current Porsche Cayman S makes 320hp and weighs much less than the M3 (2940lbs vs. 3600lbs) so the power to weight ratio is fairly close. The M3 is a bit quicker in a straight line but they're pretty equal when it comes to track performance. For example, the Cayman S ran an 8:06 at Nordschleife compared to the M3's 8:05. Sometimes the Cayman is quicker sometimes the M3 but overall it's a close match. I'd rather have a Cayman S personally.

Porsche is the best (big) German company in terms of performance. Out of the big German car companies (BMW, VW, Porsche, and Audi) no car is faster than the Carrera GT and the GT2, GT3, and Turbo are faster than anything BMW makes. The Carrera is faster than the M3 and both cars are basically the same price. The M6 is 4.4 seconds 0-60 and is only about $10,000 less than the GT3. I am not trying to make fun of BMW and if you like BMW that is fine with me but Porsche is better than BMW...
