Eternal fucking hate for this remake. I can't believe people think they can remake a song and make it sound good. It's fucking impossible for this song.
If you want to listen to the Fleetwood Mac version I'm sure you can find it on YouTube somewhere. Cover songs aren't SUPPOSED to sound just like the original. I enjoy their re-imagining. It's a very soft, sweet, melodic version sung from a sorrowful point of view as opposed to an angry point of view. Great job.
Althought the original version by Fleetwood Mac was more explosive, the girls didid it their own way, and I think it sounds sounds very mellow and smooth. A definite good effort.
AMEN; you hit it right on the button. This song was an explosion of emotion when written and when sung by Fleetwood Mac. This version is like a giant, brilliant ballad with its balls cut off!
@AserHapi Ace Of Base have already commited that so-called sin with their colourless cover of 'Don't Turn Around', which was better than Aswad's but still misjudged. It was supposed to be a power ballad & the only effectively correct version was Bonnie Tyler's little-known version, which should have got the coverage the other two did.
But about this song, I do agree. I like it enough, but it's a bit like having a boxing glove, yet nothing to thump.
@TheMjblades I always thought that was an Ace of Base song and you just made me discover both the original and (way more importantly) the Bonnie Tyler version...thank you
@AserHapi No problem! When you count them up, it's amazing just how many underrated 80's artists have actually covered a song that got far less attention than weaker versions (whether earlier or later) have done. The Bangles are a perfect example of it, they've covered several songs in their time (most stay album tracks) & always trump the originals, but then I'd say the Bangles are the best female group ever.
Ace Of Base themselves have usually triumphed with covers, but not there!
I think this is a fantastic example of a good cover - they put their own spin on a timeless classic as they did with the rest of the album. 2 thumbs way up!
my friend totally flipped the channel when this one was on cruising for more hardcore shit. back then I was so embarassed about all of my less than masculine interest. my face was so red and I said nothing. I'm ashamed of myself.
My first reaction was that this cover was going to suck the big one but I actually wound up raping the replay button and found it very sensual and relaxing but it's definitely not something I'd want blasting out of my car. It's Health Spa music at best.
It's pathetic that the some of best songs to come out of the last decade are women doing 70's covers.
And talk about poor timing. They should of waited a couple more years to do this.
@coolsweetgroovy Stevie is arguably the greatest female rock vocalist of all time, with an incredibly distinct voice. Also, Lindsey Buckingham sings the hell outta this song. HE wrote and sang it about Stevie. This version is awful! The true meaning is completely lost. You can't make this song a ballad, and this is proof!
Amazing interpretation of a wonderful song. They give it a lazy/hazy, melancholy feel -- perfect for the California vibe. Great performance, and one of the few remakes that equals the original.
All the girls look fantastic! Especially Carny, I think she ended up posing for Playboy(?) If not, I'm sure someone out there will quickly correct me. Anyhoo~I'm sure thier intention for this song was harmony and m-e-l-l-o-w...I liked it, they still sound great and found this very enjoyable. Glad they are still singing together~

@2112deadsky You are correct. As a matter of fact, this song was Lindsay Buckingham basically telling Stevie to fuck off. Their relationship was coming apart during the making of this album. Twenty years later, Stevie referred to it as "mean".

Anyone who knows what history Wilson Phillips was formed from understands exactly why this song was included on their "California" album. It's a natural cover for them to do, and in my opinion they put their own definite spit on a timeless classic! That is a very difficult feat to pull off and they did it nicely.
I heard this song for the first time on the radio years ago, but when I heard it tonight I came home to look up the video on Youtube. I have to say I am disappointed. However, their version of the song is still beautiful and I love the violins and bass in the background. They still have great voices and their harmonies are wonderful. Oh, and the heavy one lost her weight and looks great.
@MsStargazer87 All due respect to Mick Fleetwood, Chrissy McVie, and and incomparable Lindsay Buckingham, but the only person who has ever butchered their songs is Stevie Nicks and her flock of sheep. Each one of these girls has ten times the talent, soul and voice that she has ever had, and with none of the sheep.
@willrichtor Stevie Nicks wrote some of their biggest hits and she's a great performer and singer. These girls can sing for sure, but don't start comparing them its beyond childish. Also, to suggest these girls have "10 times the soul" that Nicks ever had is just insulting. Don't be so disrespectful.
I hate saying this, but as much as this song sounds beautiful, the video made me think of BJs the whole time. Sorry Wilson Phillips. I blame your soft lips, your director of the video, and it being very late. :-)
If you could spell, I'd be more impressed with your crappola J Rudd. These haters who sign on just to hear themselves rattle, really could stand some good old fashioned manners. Go find your Justin Bieber CD and have a great time!
I love these girls, but this just makes me want to listen to Fleetwood Mac! I like it better with the energy they put behind it, and I think Fleetwood Mac is one of the best bands of all time & their music shouldn't even attempt to be covered...just my opinion!
What a beautiful California melody. Yes, jamesb, I agree it honors the Buckingham original which is itself a work of pure genius. It's so rare that a cover can add any value to the original, but they accomplish this feat.
And. These women are truly beautiful. All of them. There's a big difference, no, a yawning chasm, between girls pretending and wanting to be sexy...LadyG, for example.... and real sex goddesses like Wendy, Carnie and Chynna.
@swstryker I agree they're all beautiful (and Carnie is almost unrecognisable) but Chynna is the most striking in my opinion. I remember back in the 90s, I really wanted to look like her.
@BluebirdintheSky Trust me, I also think Chynna is beautiful. Even today. But call me a redhead fanatic. Wendy just had that something extra. As far as looking like Chynna, I'm sure you turned out just fine!
@tombaker1222 I was just thinking exactly that as I read your post. This is ok as 'easy listening' background music in a shoppping mall or the like, but it isn't a patch on Fleetwood Mac's version.
What a wonderful version, better than those of the Cranberries actually. :) The mood is much appropriate. It seems that Wilson Phillips likes to sing songs about moving on or letting go... Well, their song, "You're in Love" is already my fave the first time I've heard of it. This one is another case of love at first hearing, hhe. I've just heard it now after I found the title intresting. I luv these songs...it really helps me... :)
I like this remake ... to the comments about Stevie always sounding off key ... she does not have the standard woman voice ... neither did Janis Joplin or Grace Slick. Stevie also only sang back up on GYOW ... Lindsay Buckingham wrote and sang this song for Fleewood Mac.
Only if by British you mean Californian! Carnie and Wendy Wilson are the daughters of Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys) and Chynna Phillips is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips (The Mamas & The Papas). They grew up together and come by their harmonizing honestly.
Eternal fucking hate for this remake. I can't believe people think they can remake a song and make it sound good. It's fucking impossible for this song.

@BluebirdintheSky Trust me, I also think Chynna is beautiful. Even today. But call me a redhead fanatic. Wendy just had that something extra. As far as looking like Chynna, I'm sure you turned out just fine!

A nice enough arrangement but not a patch on the original. It's a song to rock out to, not to relax to!
tombaker1222 1 year ago
@tombaker1222 I was just thinking exactly that as I read your post. This is ok as 'easy listening' background music in a shoppping mall or the like, but it isn't a patch on Fleetwood Mac's version.

Wow interesting! I am not sure why so many dislikes? Come on what was you expecting? A screaming guitar? It kind of made me tired to listen to it?

Stevie just did back up vocals for the Fleetwood mac version. It was written and sung by Lindsey Buckingham.

beautiful song ; ) are they british?
ARoomOfOnesOwn9 1 year ago
@ARoomOfOnesOwn9

Damn I barely recognize them. Carnie has especially changed quite a bit.

Carnie Wilson looks thinner.I'm not saying she was far,but the trench coat on hold on made her look fat.
