can anyone help me cause in the recent updates you cant plant mushrooms that close any more they need to be at least 1 air block between them and ive tried it and its true is there a way you can still plant them together without the mushrooms up rooting?

In the Minecraft 1.8 patch notes, it says "* Fixed mushrooms spreading infinitely." Does this design still work properly?

This would still be semiautomatic though, I think. Given that mushrooms reproduce on their own, you could theoretically have a fully automatic one, though. But it would need to be connected to a clock that releases the water streams every so often. Although, this wouldn't be very practical, since most of the mushrooms would go to waste if you're not near the collection area.

How can the schrooms keep spreading since there is light?

@PartyMedifly shrooms grow in a light level of 12 or less. you can have light in your shroom far as long as its not too close to them

@PartyMedifly You need to keep a few spaces. I think in my video no mushroom is closer than 3 spaces to a light source.

@dwubsly Hmm, well the only thing I think that's not already obvious design wise is the line of redstone behind the wall of pistons. I suppose I could put one together to make it easier to understand/follow if people keep asking.

I thought mushrooms could only grow in the dark

@MyNameIsMrPlow As long as the light source is placed 4 blocks or more away and the shrooms are out of sunlight they will still grow. At the end of the video a red mushroom already starts growing back in the dim light.
