Nice apps. I love soundprism. But I don't get all this crazy love for rudess. Like, have you never electronic music before? He didn't invent it. For example, better in every way - ash ra tempel
What app or effects were being used on the video? Those are awesome, too. Plus, how do you get the arp from SoundPrism to work. It must be in the software app. I haven't had time to dig that far into SP, yet. Excellent stuff, man. Love IT!
I can't wait to see what these kind of music these devices make when an entire generation of musicians choose to play and experiment, as well as develop the sounds and technologies of these machines. Can you imagine the creative geniuses of today exclusively playing these types of devices instead of pianos or guitars? Remarkable...
@NDIrish50 i prefer to imagine them being played with rather than instead lol i'm trying to figure up a way to hook up an ipod on my guitar so i can do morphwiz too
It sounds like something out of a demoscene. For people who don't know what a demoscene is, think of keygens and the music that goes along with them. Beautiful sound, my kudos man! :D
Ahh this makes me wish i had the money for an ipad... or two! xD Great playing as always, and can't wait to hear how this affects the new DT material. Also looking forward to seeing the eigenharp in action more as well!
Jordan can you tell me a little about the musical theory behind this?? I mean this music is so inspiring and I would like to try to play something like this. Thanks
@asierraalta7 Chords from a harmonized scale played with notes from the same scale: if other words all the notes used in the chords are also part of the scale that the lead lines are coming from.
Mmmm, I can already hear some palm muted powerchord chugging on a guitar in 7/8 together with a open/close hi-hat drum work underneath of that. Make it happen Jordan!
I wish Dream Theater played stuff as fresh as this....
Hello, Jordan! I just got the SoundPrism Pro app for my iPhone and I don't have so much features as you do on your iPad. Is it because the app for the iPad has more stuff than the app for the iPhone?
@VladKV2 Hi, I'd like to answer that. The iPhone just has a lot less screen space than the iPad. We've removed or rearranged some of the least used features of the iPad version but you can still pretty much do everything the iPad version can on your iPhone.
Cool! The new app on the left seems very cool, though it seems to be lacking a lock to tempo and sustain/hold so you can change chords without having to keep track of the tempo.
Your the best Jordan Rudess! I love the fact that you're always discovering new tools and Technics to expand this universe called "Music"! your unique style, talent, knowledge and personality makes you the best keyboard/piano player on the world!
Sorry to ask about an unrelated business: Have you got a new drummer for Dream Theater already?? I'm dying to know what's gonna happen with the band! Please a response would be highly appreciated Jordan!
And by the way this sounds awesome really, it has a very 70s prog rock vibe to it.
Ok as cool as this stuff is, i dont understand why you would mess around with ipad apps when your an amazing pianist. I mean the ipad apps are meant to be more or less portable "instruments" to make music easier to people who do not actually play in order to help get more people into music. Idk, maybe i'm over thinking it? Btw whats up with the weird/random effects on the videos? lol
@Odin1618Xbox I agree on the weird effects, but I disagree on the part of ipad instruments being just portable instruments, with the ipad/iphone/android you can do stuff you cannot do in a conventional instrument like shifting from note note in glissandos, and do so with several voices simultaneously, or giving each voice(finger) a different expression. This apps are no toys in the sense that what I can't play in them I can't play it in a conventional instrument.
@takeshiguadua Maybe the effects just make the videos a little more dynamic. They are something to tickle your eyes while you listen to the sounds. =)
@Odin1618Xbox Because the iPad and the iphone has created an explosion in the creative world unlike anything I have seen in my entire career. For me not to be involved in this movement would be impossible. Of course I still love my keyboards but some of these apps are so cutting edge and forward thinking that they spark the imagination and inspire!!
@JCRUDESS That's what prog is all about, and that's why I think you're a musician worth paying attention to. Nice to see someone going forward in the strangely nostalgic world of prog.
@JCRUDESS I reckon the music apps that everyone knows like PianistPro aren't really up to much but with things like bebot and now Morphwiz the ipad has really come into its own as a platform for music apps (re: the discussion about wether they are "more or less portable instruments")
@JCRUDESS I suppose so, I mean don't get me wrong anything that moves the music industry forward I'm all for, and especially if it can expose non-musicians to music (I mean I taught a coworker to play some simple songs on guitar through an Android app). I love what this technology has brought to music in the recent years. I've never personally had any experience with these apps hands on so I can't speak to much from experience and maybe that's my problem.
@JCRUDESS I must admit, i always viewed these apps as more recreational fun than musical instruments.
But in this video, by mixing both apps together you instantly get a new level of expressiveness i didn't originally expect to see from an ipad. I feel all excited now knowing that music like this can be made using these apps, and you are only using 2 apps in this video. I would love to see what can be done with more apps running.
@JCRUDESS hmm i guess its not a huge stretch of the imagination to say that we'll be hearing this on the new album. and one really great thing about these instruments is for random bouts of inspiration. i dont have a smart phone yet but i'll b able to keep so many ideas that otherwise would have disapeared. i'm sure u have the same feelings
@Odin1618Xbox - You don't understand Jordan. As someone that has worked with him, he has always been a pioneer that loves finding new ways to express the musical spirit. If trees came to life so you could climb them and they would sing beautiful sounds on a branch by branch basis, Jordan would be there, with climbing gear on, I have no doubt.
Perfect musical marriage indeed! Then again, if you're the one arranging the musical marriages, all of them will be happy ones, I'm sure. I mean, I'm not sure how many people can rock two iPads and a laptop so beautifully.
Why are his apps $10? That is way too much.

This little jam here could be one of two things:
1. A new sound DT may be going for (if this were the case I'd be most excited)
2. The most amazing Weather Channel music I have ever heard.
