  • Steve's got a bloody awesome voice.

  • stairway to heaven, Much?

  • Just had the great privilege of seeing these guys live in a barn resturant in Germany. Room for only 100 and it was absolutley fantastic!!!!!!!!!

  • This is what they are all about! Hear it out! Emma xx

  • I love Show Of Hands.. I see myself as a good mix ,b orn in England my Mother English, my Dad Scottish , his Mum (my Gran) Irish. I can jig and sing along with the best of them all. It has always upset me that the Englsih seem a bit in the dark about their folk roots, they make fun of real ale and Cider drinkers, "hate" the Germans whilst drinking pilsner lager,. laugh at the folk singers and rap in some alien language all whilst flying the England flag...saying they are patriotic?

  • Lovely to see David Oddy on there-what a super talented luthier he is.

  • Hey, I'm English and proud of it. I have black hair and a big nose. I could be Norman or Roman. Who cares; for all the years the census' go back, I have some Irish in me but apart from that I am English. I don't have a racist bone in my body but I would like us to be proud of our past. We have a lot to be proud of and it makes us feel good when we are reminded of it.

Now that the politics is addressed: I love Show of Hands music. I love folk music and It's great to have our own music.

  • Sorry it's not about politics and racism but...

Is that Rachel Rice at 0:11??

  • Loving your country isnt racism. Its normal and healthy to love your own race and culture not be ashamed of it. That includes the culture's music and folk lore. BNP FTW.

  • the history of our country is rooted in population movement and immigration, if this was africa your point would be valid, as it is we probly all have french, italian and whatever the fuck else in our bloodlines.

  • Yeh being proud of ur roots is ok but the BNP are Facists.

  • I agree Wheels of fire, music is intended to join people and fr us to identify with the suffering endured. Also, to move on and understand that today is today despite what happened in the past. History has moulded some things but it's what happens now that's significant. We all remember people dying but not people living.

  • I wish you would leave politics out of this, its good music so lets not taint it with BNP racism

  • I'm an Irish republican, and love Show of Hands. And think that music can unify opposing sides, even if only in song. I have heard English squaddies doing great versions of Irish folk and rebel ballads.

    Even Unionists have great tunes.

Don't worry about the political ranters. They usually can't sing or play.

  • yes - rational people don't think about racism when they hear show of hands

  • Is that the BNP your talking about, hey have you heard of Nick Griffin is he still leader of the Nazi British National Party?

Was he not once in court alongside his sidekick Mark Collett to face charges of incitement to racial hatred?

  • Yes, he was in court along with Mark Collett on charges of incitement to racial hatred!! And they were aquitted by a majority of 12 to nil!

    Your argument is?

  • the point is your a fucking dick

  • England for the English!

  • You come to a folk festival and see how far that atitude gets you. Show of Hands have some good points, English folk music has been somewhat neglected (espesially by those in England!), why hijack their promotion of a musical style with your stupid nationalist shite? 'England' can be for the dogs for all I care! This land I stand upon is for the heart of those who have touched her, and she always has been. Get over it.

  • Hi

    very cool!

    Eliane

  • I used to be a roadie for phil when he was in "rock" band called retrospect who played in and around exeter a million years ago and spent a drunken night at a pub on the river teign amongst other things ooh and wenton a couple of holidays to south wales as well. those were the days.

  • Dickhead

  • i agree with glen279, the BNP have only recently decided to have a policy about England as a response to the increase in English nationalism which is not racist. ie: the English Democrats.

  • Thanks. I know my response was hardly very articulate, which I apologise for, but it really annoys me that someone would hijack a video about English music in order to promote a fascist 'political' party. British culture shouldn't mean the exclusion of multiculturalism.

  • come on then. BNP portfolio of running anything?

  • Is this the same BNP that would refuse ex-Ghurka's membership because of the colour of their skin? Or the same BNP that would do the same to Cpl. Behary, VC, for the same reason?

  • The BNP supports both the Ghurkas's and Cpl Behary. The BNP are trying to achieve is very similar to what Show of Hands are saying and that is preserving our history and heritage! When my wife gets on the Board of the Black Teachers Association being a white person herself, or when my Uncle Jim gets on the board the Black Police Officers association, who's also white and I get on the Council of British Muslims even though I'm not a Muslim! Then it may be time for the BNP to look again!

  • I don't always like winning an argument you know oldun52, I do like a debate and I can acknowledge when I'm wrong! So oldun52, do you have a response to my previous post? As to why do all these 'minority' and 'ethnic' organisation not allow white indigenous Briton's onto their board?

  • No, relax with a beer and realise you could just deside to enjoy yourself. Dont vote BNP, you wanker, open your mouth and sing! And dont you go 'preserving' my culture, I want it dynamic and kicking!

  • Yep I'm English an proud of it but stuff the nationalistic crap I want my flag back.

  • @LundyIsle Actually I think you'll find they agree with you somewhat, or at least what I think you're getting at—check out their song "Roots"

  • @ErgoTerraNova Should have made myself clearer sorry. Show of Hands are a terrific group and "Roots" is an amazing song its not for the racists.

  • @LundyIsle where is your pride a true Englishman stands by his flag come on be a proud Englishman you ont need to be a sheep listen to your heart not what your told or tought. All nationalist are proud of the flag and many non nationalist are too pride is not mutualey exclusive.

  • young gorgeous and sickingly wonderfully talented. More, more :)

  • SOH. Simply the best!

  • Brilliant. But what's with the random images of India near the end?!

  • they did a tour of india, mixing their music with traditional indian music.

  • Steve, Phil, if you happen to read this... two days to the Cambridge folk festival, can't wait to see you!

  • OMG, weren't they great - I went twice!!!

  • We've heard of you too, Stu and Annie from Cornwall, now living on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, via Ireland and Arizona. Love what you guys are doing, more power to ya!

  • Thanks for posting this - don't they look young!!
