  • Armed with will and determination, and grace too.

  • my fav.

  • Interestingly, Pearl Jam played a bit of this song live at a show. I had to pause myself because it sounds familiar. Pearl Jam's always pulling the shit like that.

  • I'm Tragically Hip!

  • Listen up knuckleheads, the "sounds like" game works on a timeline. That means Pearl Jam sounds like the Hip since the Hip were making music first. If you didn't hear the Hip first, that's your own damned problem.

  • Absolute awesome song! I love listening to when headed to my league game on Hockey Night!

  • awesome live band.

  • Huge tune.

  • You guys are missing the point. We as Canadians LOVE the underdog.

These guys never broke the States so we still love them.

(but because they are huge here we tire a little). But if they went huge in America we would hate them as much as NickelBack and Bare Naked Ladies. (Both of which are fine bands, just way too successful for our psyche)

  • @pfmrokman ... They are bigger in the states than you might think! We love 'em here in Texas!! Maybe its because of all of the Canadian transplants down here? They have a huge following in Austin and Houston!

  • I'm a new fan from US & they remind me more of REM of which I am also a fan. Love The Hip in their own right though. P.S. I also love Pearl Jam but have to agree they're a completely different sound.

  • GREAT SONG FOR ROAD TRIPS UP NORTH

  • oh and your favorite band sucks. i hate it when i get into arguments with morons on the internet about bands. lets just agree that Nickelback is a disgrace to the entire continent.

  • actually a lot of later Pearl Jam sounds like The Hip, with different singers abviously. they are both pretty awesome.

  • seen em about 10 times live, best live band i ever saw and im 52 so ive seen em all

  • I enjoy them more than Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden... Ok I'm Canadian and this is just my opinion, but growing up on this shit was the best. These guys put on a helluva show. Actually, thanks for the vid. I'm on the way to see them at Ottawa Bluesfest in 2hrs. Peace all.

  • @LetThereBeRocker I'll be going back home to Buffalo after 4 years and will see them play again. Buffalo always loved the Hip!!!! and Tea Party!!!

  • can't wait till bayfest

  • looks like fun..... trippin out in a cabin somewhere

  • I listen to them, and I feel like I am part of them. Hmm, reminds me of Calgary!

  • cause pearl jam sux compared to the hip ,i fact most bands suck compared to the hip.my music sux compared to the hip ,

  • I love the Hip and live in Atlanta. Whenever they play here it's always a super small place that's half full...I love it for me but don't get why they aren't huge and what better band to be on the festival circuit?

  • @TheChicomangman not sure why, but they're just not big in the states (except in the absolute North, like Buffalo, Detroit). They're not really "mainstream" so that probably doesn't help them.

  • @yournextvehicle hell there main stream in canada lol

  • my parents made food for these guys. im super serial

  • i've seen these guys 36 times and i'm hoping for 36 more!!!!

  • One joint + this video = One trip!

  • Simply awesome.

Loved them playing this on their SNL appearance, introduced by Dan Aykroyd.

  • Just WOW.

  • i like it better when they say "she said im tragically hip"

  • Day for Night is the best album

  • I suppose the guy who directed the video had synesthesia?

  • @bulshoy Well, that is a side effect of LSD, which this video reminds me of, I love it.

  • cheers bro's!

  • I remember going ta see them when I was 5 at the molson amphitheater with my mom and dad.....they were then and still are my favourite band. Long live the Hip

  • Surreal. nothing sounds like that. No Video compares, It was a moment in time when the HIP ruled the landscape. They still do, but back then ...NOTHING compared.

  • the Hip Fucking RULES!!!!!! Canadians know what im talkin about

you go anywhere and 99 point alot of people dont know who they are

its like our kickass secret ,

Canada Owns , And so does The Tragically Hip !!!

  • @EvHstyleTaPMaster We have alot of HIp fans over here in the State's!!!!!Your secret's been out 4 years mate!!!!!! ayea

  • haha...little bones ..mate !!

  • this sound rediculous wtf is the name of that song "2.50 for an eyeball, and a buck n a half for an ear" someone help me out haha

  • @kdmOG Little Bones from Road Apples

  • Little bones...:)

  • Little Bones from the Road Apples album :D

  • Nice I've seen those lyrics messed up alot but that was pretty funny. The song is Little Bones and the lyrics are:

    "2.50 for a hi-ball,

And buck and a half for a beer

    Happy hour, happy hour

    Happy hour is here"

    - Cheers

  • This bloody brilliant headphone music!!!

    All hail the Hip!

  • Do they still open with this song? It's been a while since I've sen them

  • @tarkusmjg last time i saw them they opened with yer not the ocean, followed with this song

  • "crapplay" huh? well it is clear that you have absolutly no class what so ever.

just because you dont like a band does not make them any less talented

    get a clue.

  • hip formed in 1983 and got their first major label release in 1989 with Up to Here. pearl jam formed in 1990 and got their first major label release in 1991 with Ten. So the bands released their first albums 2 years apart. Not much time difference. im a fan of both bands but would never lump them together.

  • @turfturbo Me too. Fan of both. No lumpage. Never even considered it.

  • they don't sound anything like pearl jam

  • @EliteBeave

Well, I would hope not, seeing as the Hip had already put out at least an EP and a full-length LP before Pearl Jam even existed.

  • @Fakename70 i was replying to the many, many comments on this video (and other videos by pearl jam) that note they sound alike. like you, i find that ridiculous.

  • @EliteBeave no shit they have there own sound dumb ass

  • @TheTony196503 hey "the" tony... that was my point. got sick of people comparing them to PJ when they sound nothing alike.

  • @EliteBeave im sorry i get the point

  • @EliteBeave nor does pearl jam sound like the hip

  • I've always interpreted this song as being an offer of protection, just put in a way that makes you think "well, the narrator could be a sheister (sic)". Blinking brilliant tune and top band!

  • Awesome song!

  • Is this song about some guy trying to rape some girl?

  • ofcourse you dont..

  • pearl jam and bush sound like the hip....stealin from our boy's..Canada's Band

  • i dont think they sound anything like the hip. if you listen to all three (as in not just the hits) its not the same.

if the "hits" sound the same it isnt much of a surprise since they are of the same era. the radio of the era all sounded the same. in this i am not surprised.

a great comparison would be adam lambert on american idol doing "ring of fire" and sounding so much like the tea party!

  • Wow this is the first time ive heard this... I listened to nautical disaster before this one.

I must say I do like their music (US) lol

Hmm... they sound like a mix of Pearl Jam and Bush... and maybe a dash of Coldplay... very nice

  • LMAO! Um The hip was out long b4 pearl jam, bush or crapplay *cough* sry coldplay say The Hip in Victoria BC this summer OMG! what a canadian party!

  • Oh, I didn't know that, but now i do :) . I'm sure they have other albums that are good? Any reccomendations?

  • Fully Completely, Road Apples, Day for Night, World Container, Phantom Power

  • Fully Completely is good. Road Apples is good. World Container is Good. Phantom Power is good...

  • @eris420

Depends what your interpretation of "long" is - In the grand scheme of things, two years is a drop in the bucket.

  • I saw these musical gods in london on, yesterday, they closed with this one.............tops any thing i have ever seen

  • Closed? Most of the times I have seen them they open with that. Must of been a great show!

  • well, i said im tragically hip... LUVS THEM!!! hope they play this in St.John's on the 3rd!!!! OMG!!!

  • heard the name a billion times. saddly never checked them out. awesome

  • Why don't you hang yourself and do us all a favor, eh?

  • @neoyroma fuckin eh!!!

  • your name says it all. gtfo "supremewhiteguy". you have no ear for music. go burn a cross you dusty skinhead.

  • i wish I could favourite this vid a thousand times over. Fucking godbless the Hip.

  • too me this is the greatest song ever written..

    the hip the greatest band

  • learn how to spell. Tooooo

  • There'll be no knock on the door

  • One of their best.

  • Possibly too deep for most people...screw REM! The HIP should have been the ones making the airwaves during the 90's.

well i was blown away the hip, they fkn rock .. iam from australia btw so i never heard of them before i visited montreal, ended up listening to em for the 22 hour flight back

  • I thought this was A Hip song, not a Rush song. Why is everyone busting balls about Rush. Go to their songs and flame it. No one cares about what you have to say about Rush.

  • This song is 100 percent TRAGICALLY HIP song.

  • best, and most creative video, ever.

  • agreed rush is overrated as hell. They have not put nothing decent out sicne 2112. I love how this song builds like he is getting angrier..awesome song. I just wished i woudl have seen them live.

  • SAW THEM PEMBERTON 08 WOOOOOO!

  • Whatever happened to shrooms, nowdays its fucking chemicals, too bad, so sad.

  • What a vid, i feel like i just his some killer shrooms. Love this tune.

  • lol - you type like it, too.

  • What is the argument about Rush. Just hear this fucking fantastic rock tune & enjoy it. CHEERS!!!!!!!!!

  • Are you kidding me, rush is the most over rated bands ever rush sucks, there are way better bands out there that smoke rush, I hate rush! now the hip on the other hand there isn't one bad hip tune no matter what time and day can never go wrong listening to a hip tune!

  • the guitar that hits at "i can guarentee" =yes.

and "i come from downtown" vera nice

  • Great song, been looking for this since hearing it on the radio in 1994

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUCK YEAAAAAAAAH!

    tragicallu hip is my FAVORITE

    party music <3333333

  • Best thing Canada has given the world since the kids in the hall!!

  • Nahh man...Poutine is # 1 eh!

  • hahaha poutine...clever. kids in the hall is pretty badass too. so is that show danger bay. SHUT THE FUCK UP! YOU KNOW THAT SHOW KICKED ASS I DONT CARE IF ITS CHEESY! i love having wake and bakes and watching danger bay reruns from the early 90's and just trip out to the cheesy acting.

  • Do you remember the Logrider clip?Or The Littlest Hobo?LOL

  • dont remember logrider, but you better fucking believe i remember the littlest hobo. FUCKING GOLD!

  • check for the logriders waltz on here..Is a short clip..LOL

  • ya true but RUSH isnt bad ether haha

  • rush was around when most of the boys making comments in youtube weren't even born yet.

  • ya i know im like 18 and a drummer and i love rush there gods lol

  • I've tried getting some young people into rush. for some odd reason, they think rush sounds stupid. then again, I know a lot of black people who don't like rush just because of the singer's voice... consider yourself one of the lucky ones lol

  • ya my dad got me into rush there awsome there musicianship is remarkable

  • im not black and i hate his voice the only good song is tom sawyer...the new one he has is listenable only if its on the radio...rush can retire

  • HAPPY CANADA DAY EH!!

  • HAHA fucking rights man ALL day everyday Canada day :P . GO HIP!

  • im from the home of the hip and this songs the north ends anthem (kingston ontario)

  • One of The Hip's best songs! Never gets old

  • Git 'er done. Love this tune

  • I love this song. I play it in the car every morning and never get sick of it. Thank you, Hip!

  • The Hip gots a good fan base in America especially in Buffalo NY. Good band great song. Two things i love from our neighbors from the north are the hip and Labatt Blue.

  • The Tragically Hip are an amazing band. This is coming from an American who used to see their videos on MuchMusic, because the satellite system I had had that channel, but a few years back, they decided to change it to Fuse, and the network is crappy shows and emo-rock. The Tragically Hip is real rock, willing to advance their musicial styles and ignoring the cliches of modern rock bands. Too bad America is dominated by thug rap and rock music that talks about being dumped or high school life.

  • wow, i agree 100%

  • I'm Canadian, and I'm honoured that someone from America finally knows who the Tragically Hip is. :P

  • yeah i agree with PinkFloyd47, good to know people recognize them, they're an awesome band

  • More people than you suspect follow what happens north of the border, both in terms of music and film. The cultural rift that is developing between our two countries, in large part because of our president, disgusts me.

Canadian bands, Canadian people, and Canadian film are always warmly welcome in my home here in the States.

  • Well, then, on behalf of most Canadians, we are honoured. There'll never be many bands like The Tragically Hip. I think Canadians need to realize that not all Americans disrespect us. I know that when a Canadian badmouths America, they should just be badmouthing Bush.

  • Magic keep er going boys!!!

  • this tune is dope goes good with alcohol

  • This song is just badass.

  • Video is OK. Would love to see this video redone with a bit more edge. Great Great song. Probably their best Intro song. :) Thank you Hip !

  • The video is trying to be hypnotic and visually interesting while not distracting you from the song. I really like it.

  • One of their best

    Especially the HIPnotic intro

  • Proof great music doesn't have to be ..Girl meets boy,boy meets girl, boy looses girl...Cerebral tunes for the discerning adult in Canada and indeed the world over...true genious this stuff.

  • um, what? i was not aware that was ever the equation of a popular song... maybe you shouldnt listen to the garbage on the radio?

  • um,what?what rock have you been living under?yes it is the equation to a popular song since...oh yeah since the beginning of rock and roll...true it is mostly the crap on the radio hence why they call it "popular"...my point being it's refreshing to hear a band break free from the set formula..

  • Our lives are richer from just hearing this song.

Thank You Messrs. Downie, Baker, Sinclair, Langlois and Fay

We should all live with some Grace, too.

    A Bear from Manitoba,

    Yogi

  • GORDONS MY HERO!

  • mainstream or not man, it sure is telling

  • It has a sweet Psychedelic theme to it.

  • Chills...

  • one of my best song ever

  • Wow, the Tragically hip have to be the best band ever.

  • Ohhhh,yeaaahhhhh.(t.o.)

  • a long, long time ago The Hip and the Headstones, Richardson Stadium, KINGSTON (Oh what a party)!!

  • when I worked in the states (I am from Canada) I took my CD collection down.. The Hip which was not known, became very popular, same with Captain Tractor (although not as much).

The Hip are very under appreciated and this is a shame because their music is so powerful and truly Canadian.

  • Great Hip song! The Tragically Hip, in my mind are one of the best bands ever! It' s great seeing these videos, because I don't see their videos anymore because the Muchmusic that was shown in the states, became Fuse, and all they show is emo-rock and stupid shows!

  • They make me proud to be canadian:)LUV The Hip!

  • yes they do make us proud very

  • Possibly my favourite Hip tune.

  • I'm a dutch Hip fan, the videos are not shown in the Netherlands, so thank you for posting!!! world container is even hardly for sale with us!! Hope to see the hip in tilburg (013) soon!

  • Awesome video, awesome song...I friggen love The Hip.

  • I have been fortunate enough to see the Hip live 5 times, the last one with 92 000 other HIP fans at Magnetic Hill, NB some group called the Stones were there two. Grace Two was in the mix that day and it remains my fave Hip Tune and I love them all.

    LEQ

  • he said we are tragically hip. gees I dont know..

    Thats what Im here for.

I come from down town, born ready for you.

I love the Hip as my brothers in the soul of music.

  • Best video ever. All has to do with the trippy film. THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT! I've search everywhere and it was infront of my face!
