This is wonderful, and to think the last bastion of this sort of behaviour was destroyed a season ago when Hib's legendary East Stand was knocked down for a sterile cowshed. No wonder in this age when the name 'St James Park' is itself up for sale that many fans are deserting the game. This house of cards has got to fall. The decline and fall of the Romaonv empire...
i envy those people so much for having experienced such a wonderful era of football.
and i find it a bit ironic that most of the people, who nowadays try to take every piece of freedom from the ordinary football fan were teenagers back then and most certainly enjoyed all the freedom they now try to take from us.
they should have stands like this. where its just empty stairs and they let as many people in as possible. so people are just squished and pushing eachother. it would be a giant mosh pit. but it would cool.
@NickBigsmoke that's how people die! do you not know about Hillsborough and other disasters were people are crushed to death??? At least have crush barriers on every 3 rows or something to stop people charging forward!
@thedancinggymnast ahh. who cares. you have to know the risks if you want to go into them. people die and get hurt at concerts but know one cares about them.
@NickBigsmoke Who said people don't care about people dying in concerts? I'm not someone who only cares about Hillsborough & is ignorant about everything else. People still get crushed now! Only last year 21 people died in a crush in the Love Parade festival in Germany. I'm surprised really after reading about other disasters that festivals haven't changed. I've been to festivals were people ram forward & you get squashed.
@NickBigsmoke However I normally stand to the side. I don't think people should have 2 not go for fear of dying because a festival/football match in itself isn't a risky thing.
@thedancinggymnast The standard spacing between crush barriers on new terracing built in the UK, is around 8 steps... that I think is just enough for the crowd to jump around, surge a bit and have a laugh, but not get crushed under a weight of too many bodies.
@kingcdh123 yeh that is a bit more reasonable and more fun. The comment that NickBigsmoke made was ridiculous though, ' where its just empty stairs and they let as many people in as possible. so people are just squished and pushing eachother. it would be a giant mosh pit. but it would cool.'
Turning the entire stand into a crush would be cool???
Yepp, I loved surging a bit and getting pushed around. But as you said 8 steps is enough but we need terraces and we need lots of people:P
At the moment there is limited terracing coupled with low attendances in the lower leagues which make the surging and pushing on the terraces kind of worthless.
back in the days were only scousers went the match and the woolybacks, southeners and foreign basterds had never heard of liverpool football club. its a disgrace that normal working class scousers cant get a ticket for the match anymoore
JUST BRILLIANT.... I was on the Kop that afternoon. We always stood about 40 steps up, behind the keeper's right goal post. I was just a kid. Never forget it. (Still have the bruises!) I may even spot myself there if I look closely enough!
When football belonged to the fans, all british players who loved, and went to war for there clubs. Not these foreign arseholes, who are only here for the money.
@gludeklis The tune is "Anyone Who Had A Heart" by Burth Bacharach, but I am sure the fans devised some sharper lyrics. I suppose anyone who would know them would have to be at least 65 now.
@gludeklis The tune is "Anyone Who Had A Heart" by Burth Bacharach, but I am sure the fans devised some sharper lyrics. I suppose anyone who was there on that day would have to be getting on for at least 55 to 60 now.
Even in the early 80s the atmosphere was stunning. Now it's piss-poor and I won't spend 25 quid to be bored. I would encourage others to stop going and stop paying the wages of foreign prima-donnas.
@SCOUSEJAYERE It's like a library as you say: The people who turn up now are getting a much worse experience for their 20 quid than the fellers in the video were getting for their 2 bob.
am a liverpool fan,but it hurts me to say this but the kop these days is only about 10% scouse,a working class man on the kop is a very rare sight these days, you give the the right for the working class people liverpool to go the match again, then youll see an real spion kop atmosphere!

intresting thing about this is that the fans are singing with a united scouse accent. You don't get this now as the kop is full of out of towners. 20 YEARS AND COUNTING!
It must have been fantastic to go to Anfield in the 60s! With all the beatles and other music it was a great time.Sad things are so different in many ways now!
@shawaiqqa "Anyone who had a heart"Probably by Cilla Black, as she was part of the Mersey sound, rather than the Dionne Warwick version, although DW s is the better of the two in my opinion
@MrDampkring dont think that could happen mate as proved in 89 some police forces just dont have a clue when it comes too big crowds plus they dont realy care if your not from there city.justice for the 96
The image of the laughing policeman walking by with the Kop roaring behind him is something that will stay with me for ever. It isn't part of this vid however.
When I grew up in Liverpool in the 60's and 70's everyone sang in the street, everyone, kids and old people it was normal! I think it's the Irish connection.

It sickens me to see the amount of narrow-minded computer addicts that scour YouTube for something they don't like and the best insult they can come up with is trying to turn the word gay into something derogatory. It sickens me to see the amount of narrow-minded computer addicts that scour YouTube for something they don't like and the best insult they can come up with is trying to turn the word gay into something derogatory. You need to turn your computer off and actually experience the real world. You might find yourself feeling gay.
