I suspect it's about the main line advertisers wanting to out the bloggers as paid advertising. Notice that there is no similar requirement to inform the viewer of the payment in connection with the plethora of placements in film and TV or the "news stories" that are little more than advertising. If the government wants to out the advertising shills then do so for all. I suppose bloggers don't have lobbyists so our bureaucrats aren't getting a cut.

I think knowing whether something is a paid promotion or a personal unpaid endorsement is important for consumers of media. I presume that the motivation for wanting to know the actual amount probably has more to do with Internal Revenue Services...

Either way this whole conversation is making me wonder if I'm the only person on the interwebz not doing endorsements. I guess it doesn't help that nobody watches/cares about anything I do anyway. lol
