There is a copper wire hanging from ceiling but not a copper wire in new fixture...what do i do??

I worked on a fixture recently. Somehow the central screw thing abraded the hot wire and caused a short. The circuit breaker did its job and flipped off, at least.

Pre 2004 domestic wire colours:

Red is live

Black is neutral

Yellow and green is earth

Post 2004:

Brown is live

Blue is neutral

Yellow and green is earth

my next door neighbour (who i dont get on with) told me to test the wiring with a screwdriver, he said it will warm up and that is how you can tell the power is not switched off. i think he could be wrong

i plan to try this within the next 15 minutes as it is getting dark

i've got white and red wires evrey video on here shows black and white wires with no help for people who have other colors coming from there wall or celing like me.

I've got two black wires coming out of the ceiling...its and old house. Also there's two lights on my light fixture. I've had the fixture off 4 times. The light will go back on but it won't turn off when I pull the chain going to the switch. THIS IS AGGRAVATION!!!!!!!!!!! Any help would be appreciated.

I ran into the same problem, is one of the wires ribbed and the other smooth? If so, the ribbed wire is neutral and the smooth wire is hot.

i think its still go to the black. since some house have blue wire they took it with the black and the white still took with white
