@cbarrett34 That's a good question, it's really hard to tell because of the video quality. I know Inez was with the band in May of 93 (the Jools Holland Show performance) so this is right around the time the guys made the change. Checkout DanielinChains on here, I'm pretty sure he has the whole show uploaded.
@cbarrett34 It is Inez, search "Alice in Chains - Live in Frankfurt (02.02.1993) HD" and you will see Inez's hair at the beginning, and the way he stands gives it away also.
its not, bc in middle of solo, layne goes" aaahhaaah. and at begining i think he goes along with jerrys guitar," ah ah uh ah uh aha ah ect. cool. FUCKIN GREAT VERSION! THANKS BROTHER..AIC 4 LIFE!!
dont disgrace their art with the term "grunge." Grunge really isnt a legit category of music . Each band of the grunge era sounded different with different influences. AIC is a metal band man , theyre just a product of their time. So people call them grunge.
Well I agree that each band of that era had it's different influences, but AIC was so Soundgarden influenced. Jerry used to follow Kim Thayil like a sick puppy. He loved that dropped D tuning. No criticism I love that sound. But the bands all fed off of each other.
same here. i think cantrell is the better lead player/solosist between them but i enjoy them about equally. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains kick equal ass!

well, this song could easily be on Stone Temple Pilots' "Purple" album... i don't believe in genres either, but this song as well as most of A.I.C's songs definitely have THE early 90's seattle grunge sound/vibe that sounds fresh even still today!
funny thing about layne, i read somewhere he used to be a bassist, and guys used to laugh at him when he started singing. ironicly, he became one of the best rock singers ever existed. what a guy! bless him!
Does anyone notice there's less bass when the video zooms in? The sound quality is better when it's zoomed out.

kim thayil rarely used just one tuning
hes the reason i gave up trying to learn any soundgarden
too many wierd, exotic tunings

cept like over now which is d flat
ZeitOner 2 years ago
Technically, its 430 and with the drop D tuning of this song, it is D flat.
Dam That River, We Die Young & Them Bones are all drop , which is why they are all played in that consecutive order live.
