@Farmingguy100 Well, we are able to store more feed in bags than in silos. I will note that we have 2 silos on farm to store silage for my father in law's heifers. Bags allow us to chop our silgae in larger particles with stimulate more cud chewing in our cows. Also, silos are more expensive than bagging.
We were able to chop about 120 acres of alfalfa in 13 hours. It takes us about 10 hours to cut it all. So, in reality it doesn't take too long, BUT there are always ways to do things better, faster, more efficient.
major: I have no idea if haylage would work in your climate, but I know here in MN USA it works great! I wouldn't have a dairy cow ration without it.
Olivertractor: yeah we have older tractors but they still run so well, they chopper tractor is only 195 hp and handles that chopper for a 300 hp tractor with ease ;)
good operation .... best of luck with milk prices. I am thinking of feeding my dairy cows haylage, but dont know if its as good for my cattle in hot climate
Looks like a pretty new harvester to me! I love to see the old stuff goin though. Stuff these days is always over engineered and underbuilt. We have a great running3155 JD with 10200 hrs and never rebuilt. Whats your Allis up to? And we have a 144 inverter too. Not so much a fan of that though.
12 ft diskbine unfortunately, 15 doesn't work with the NH 166 for merging so well...maybe once these milk prices straighten out we can afford to upgrade to the 15ft

What do u use for a chopper?
smseifert5 1 year ago
We can get 150 acres in 2 days with 3 people
sahholsteins1 1 year ago
Well, we use a Allis Chalmbers 8030 to cut, use the AC 6080 to haul, AC D-17 to merge, and a AC 8070 to chop.

Hey that's nice!! I've always loved making hay. Windrowing, chopping and baling. The FP240 is a hungry machine.

Yeah we are definitely not using it to its fullest capacity. We need a larger tractor to make her really work.

silage is corn in the US, or grass. Hay is drier...less than 20% moisture, and baled. This is "haylage"...moisture greater than 50%.
smseifert5 2 years ago
thats silage not hay. U should see how things are done in ireland
