A history lesson. Way back in the late 60' / 70's in the North of UK there was then an underground scene called 'Northern Soul'. This took place at venues like Wigan Casino & The Wheel where all nighters took place. Clubbers would dance none stop to the rarest US soul grooves not even heard commercially in the US until late into the 70's and now B-Boys have caught onto these rare tunes. As for the dancing. House dancing; See Northern Soul. It's similar. A possible debate. Peace.
@afg29 Well, there is such a thing as independent invention. I would say that that is probably what happened considering the style was underground in both countries in the 60's/70's.
Both these boys find some real beauty in the space ~ sound continuum here.
First guy does seem to be a bit more creative (as others said). The second guy's first set was a flipping technical masterpiece, also he recovered nicely when there was a odd break in the track during his second set.
Bet more then a few of the house heads in that crowd could turn it loose too.
...the japanese guy had more footwork; but his moves in the first few rounds has nervous written all over 'em. he took too long to warmup and adjust to & feel the music and his footwork are too rigid- he never turns or move around smoothly; his footwork are all forwards, backwards and sideways. but when he hits the groove; he pull off some really rad as fook moves. and the guy in yellow was just big xaggeratted; but not amazing moves; plus the japanese's more original.
it''s a hard one i think, ....they could do better with some better tunes though, but i guess tune is tune, you just needa find a way to click with it. =]
but to be honest, the guy in yellow seemed much more relaxed with smooth moves all the way through; and moves around and does turning moves much more though that probably came from his breaking. that kinda made up for the lack of variety in his footwork and moves in general....
this all about whos the wildest ok start off regular then you go then ima get alil wilder then ima get extra wilder ..me personaly i have to judge it from the 1st round the other rounds was to much over the top if you ask me
i don't think anyone knows....shame -_- those were some deep soulful euphoric house beats !
On a side note I would like to add that both these dancers are great and deserve respect for being able to pull off what they do. No need to argue about shit that means nothing. :) Peace Love and Beatz!
WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU IDIOTS???? SERIOUSLY??? Argueing online about who knows what in house and where what originated from !!??? WTF and we have PLENTY of requests for people asking simply what the name of these tracks are....God you people are WORTHLESS
Look up Koki and Eszteca at Juste Debout 2007. Koki's technique is on point. Mamson has his moments, too. Everyone needs to chill. These competitions don't matter, anyways. It's a way for dancers to get their names out there so that people will drop money for their classes. In the end, you alone can make yourself into a house dancer, so practice in the studio and watch videos, but you gotta hit the clubs! get partying fools!
well, to be honest, 25 years ago i had 'floor force' written on one of my legs, and 'glide master', lol, on the other - i was hip hop, the first kid in my crew to do a no-hand windmill - anyway, i'm not antagonistic toward hip-hop, i was the first kid to bring hip hop to my town back in the early 80's - before most of y'all were born. i evolved - is all i can say; i guess it bothers me a bit to see all these house kids hip hopping - hip hop was always more external - to me, house is the opposite
i think most serious house heads get bothered seeing the current mainstream hip hop mentality make its way into the house culture. where i'm from, cyphers are sometimes tarnished by a significant number of people in and around the circle expecting America's Best Dance Crew razzle dazzle, and they fail to appreciate what the circle's really about. lots of dancers casual and aggressive fail to realize that some of the best dancers can't turn it on or off, that it's off without the right music.
I totally agree. The spirit of house is the vibe created by the interplay between the DJ and the crowd and shared and experienced by everyone on the dance floor. It is NOT battling. Two guys battling it out while everyone is sitting down(!) and cheering is not what house is about I'm sorry.
Yeah, I mean, some people enjoy it. The term battle just sounds kind of silly used with house, since there's no antagonism whatsoever. It's theatrical, and if a house dancer is a good battle dancer, they're probably 10 times better in the club. It sucks trying to do what usually takes a solid hour of really good music and good people to build up to.
also, after the first track, the music became extremely weak - especially the last part - very disappointing - especially for a supposed world-class event final! - it should not have been so, because it didn't encourage, or more importantly - inspire - either dancer to bring 101% of their potential . . in my opinion - should've had more of an edge - an underground vibe/feel - what house really is, not the ho-hum, nothing special, cheesy organ-chords disco sound that was present there . . love .
i have to respectfuly disagree with you my friend, If its supposed to be an inner expression of yourself... hip hop, dance ,house, rocking , all these things are free expressions WHEN ONLY Mixed in the correct way, im not speaking of doing one move for the sake of doing it to show you can flip off a bulding and do a 360 into a windmill. that will agree with your comment, but im talking about expressing it Like you said Vibing it and incorporate it into the feel of the moment
the europeans are a bit too on the americans d&%k . . in their adoration of hip hop moves and such . . mamson had to pull out the hip-hoppy moves, and the gymnastics . . house dance is and should be about an inner, more personal experience . . i think koki understands this better, and this is why it was a bit harder for him to come out with the flamboyant maneuvers . . .
Whoa, man. House dance and hip hop came from the states, first. Second, in the late 80's and early 90's, house music and dancers migrated to NYC, where many hip hop dancers moved into the form, because they liked it and many of the hip hop clubs were closing down. The "jack" itself was a tool devised by people like Tony McGregor and Brian Green used to communicate house feeling to dancers in other forms, especially hip hop, because hip hop dancers used to jack. Why the antagonism for hip hop?
actually, it isn't at all similar. i would explain why but i don't know where to begin because they're so different and i have no idea how you would ever think this looked like vogueing. just because people are moving their arms and hips doesn't make it faggy or vogue-y.
these moves havent changed since 1993..and they all come from the uptown hop. im not sayin its bad at all. but dreads at the sound factory bar back in 93-97 would and did shit that was unthinkable. would have shamed these dudes into not dancing. if you were housin in nyc in those days you know what im talkin about. but bravo for steppin!

you neither white ass guy who thinks hes fuckign black this has to be the gayest shit i have ever seen fuck you guys up your asses and uyou have nop dicks :)
Japaneese guy needs to go. Black dude is so much better. The black gene is just too good and I am not black haters, I'm white and must admit blacks are f...ing excellent dancers.
japanese dancer is koki, and he's a really good dancer, leaps and bounds above Mamson. Look up Eszteca + Koki at Juste Debout 2007 and you will see. No such thing as a "black" gene.
I think everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. Nobody ever can't deny the fact that black people mejorly contributed to development of music and dance as we know it today. No musically talented black people existed we'd never know about blues, jazz, rock-n-roll, hip-hop, R&B, pop, house, techno and so on. And, it HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACISM. I was married to a black man for crying out loud!
It's true that our modern popular culture comes from Europe and indirectly from Africa, but that's also because blacks throughout modern history have had a unique socioeconomic situation, where they've been denied rights and money, so they naturally prioritized art and human skills. Anyone can do it, but historically minority cultures reinforce enjoying oneself and pursuing art for the sake of fun because that's all they were allowed to do. The modern day trend is an echo of that.
firstname, my point was is that once again the world chose BLACK music such as jazz and blues to be major influencial forces in the development of the modern music throughout the world...african beats and sounds, not russian folklor nor classical music neither country music which needless to say also has been influenced by blues and jazz. Black people music's unique beats and sounds became a foundation for the modern music, regardless. I mean russian for generations have been denied rights
and money...have you ever heard of slavary in Russia? Throughout the tragic years of russian slavery russian people were creating beautiful music too. Does russian folklor has the same influence as blues and jazz does on modern music? I don't think so.
We live in an English-dominated world. The American global presence introduced the world to jazz, blues, and more recent urban musical developments; e.g. Japan after WWII, Europe before and after WWII, etc... Russia, for many reasons, never had the occasion to spread the cultural legacies of its slaves. This is interesting, but if you want to continue this, message me. I don't think this is the place. Peace.
the black guy won cuz he had more wow factor. i don't really know what house is, but i can honestly say that he was more interesting.
i've never heard of a hip-hop dance style that says "you CAN'T do this kind of move." Of course, if its too far off, the audience says "wtf," but they'll usually never do that if the core elements are there.
But the Japanese guy is doing true house-dancing, the black guy is too, but he's using too many tricks to 'impress' people.
It's like in popping battles, you can do tricks all the time, but the guy who is doing the best boogaloo is probably going to win. This is because he/she would be staying true to the dance and this is a much more difficult thing to do than doing tricks all the time.
The Japanese guy was feeling the music more so than the black guy here, and therefore he wins.
Mamson was using a lot of moves that wouldn't be seen in house. He starts doing floorwork at 1:08 and 1:28. He's got this pretty random freeze at 3:27 and a flare at 4:48. He's also slightly off-beat, if you listen to his steps. I don't know about you, but I'd say he used to BBoy before he Housed. As for his being slightly off-beat, it's because he was using his heels a lot more than a dancer should've been.
It's just that it's hard to see what either of these guys are trying to express, especially Mamson because he jumps around so much. There seems to be very little coherence, and it's partly due to the camera angle, since many movements look best from the front. House rhythm also uses swing rhythm, which is really hard to pick up visually unless a dancer draws attention to it, which neither really does with what look like mumbled movements. Still, I respect them.
Koki Shibata is the name of the Japanese guy. And he is pure house other guy implemented alot from other dance styles and in the end its about showmanship. Koki is a much better at house than the other guy.
I totally agree with Calferath on that one..... that asian guy kept his true house vibe.. and didn't cross the fine line of breakdancing... he should of won.
It's not really mixing it's because both House and BBoy have similar roots that they are combined, as Bboying and House evolved the ideas of house were implemented into toprocks while more elaborate footwork was implemented into house.
It's bboying not Breakdance, and the Asian guy (I think I heard a girl saying Fuji) had way more flow and dynamic than the other dude. Major props to both though.
Ti avviso che questa È l'house, e le altre sono "derivazioni"(che oggi di haouse hanno poco o niente). Se tu avessi detto "Che schifo l'house , meglio l'electro-house", allora mi va bene, e se dici così fai pure più bella figura.

Japaneese guy needs to go. Black dude is so much better. The black gene is just too good and I am not black haters, I'm white and must admit blacks are f...ing excellent dancers.
iraidushka 3 years ago
Yeah riiiight there is a "gene" about dancing suuuure man. It's generalizations like yours that spawn racism.
caosvalencia 3 years ago
japanese dancer is koki, and he's a really good dancer, leaps and bounds above Mamson.

I mean russian for generations have been denied rights
iraidushka 2 years ago
and money...have you ever heard of slavary in Russia? Throughout the tragic years of russian slavery russian people were creating beautiful music too. Does russian folklor has the same influence as blues and jazz does on modern music? I don't think so.
iraidushka 2 years ago
We live in an English-dominated world. The American global presence introduced the world to jazz, blues, and more recent urban musical developments; e.g. Japan after WWII, Europe before and after WWII, etc... Russia, for many reasons, never had the occasion to spread the cultural legacies of its slaves. This is interesting, but if you want to continue this, message me. I don't think this is the place. Peace.

that beat is sick in the beginning, if someone knows the name please let me know, black guy is better to watch, asian guy was ok
nyginzo85 3 years ago
you dance first, then you pick a style.
the black guy won cuz he had more wow factor. i don't really know what house is, but i can honestly say that he was more interesting.
i've never heard of a hip-hop dance style that says "you CAN'T do this kind of move." Of course, if its too far off, the audience says "wtf," but they'll usually never do that if the core elements are there.
black guy wins.
innerbeast415 3 years ago

BBoiXBlender 3 years ago

Okay soooo I used to HOUSE Dance back in 93 AND I see IT ALL ... the ASIAN DUDE IS a TRU HOUSE DANCER .... he is FEELING THE MUSIC!!!
LUV IT!!!
9flowergirl9 3 years ago 2
I totally agree with Calferath on that one..... that asian guy kept his true house vibe.. and didn't cross the fine line of breakdancing... he should of won.
15141313 3 years ago
The black dude sucks. He is not smooth at all. He is just all over the place. No style.
calferath 3 years ago
It's not really mixing it's because both House and BBoy have similar roots that they are combined, as Bboying and House evolved the ideas of house were implemented into toprocks while more elaborate footwork was implemented into house.
It's bboying not Breakdance, and the Asian guy (I think I heard a girl saying Fuji) had way more flow and dynamic than the other dude. Major props to both though.
metheores 3 years ago
the way the black guy moves makes me feel high
M0meRaths 3 years ago
u can mix both dance styles house and break and it comes out better in my opinion
that's what the the black guy did, and its just more exciting to watch
but in terms of who danced better HOUSE then yes the Japanese man did dance better to it..
but in the end its who excites the crowd more..

Ti avviso che questa È l'house, e le altre sono "derivazioni"(che oggi di haouse hanno poco o niente). Se tu avessi detto "Che schifo l'house , meglio l'electro-house", allora mi va bene, e se dici così fai pure più bella figura.
